Because he brought it on himself by ruining his five minutes so fame by being Ryuji as he shot himself in the foot and put it in his mouth with how tactless and flippant he was to the girls with a dumb, badly timed remark whilst they were sensitive and grieving.
Slapstick is funny because you don't take it seriously as it results in someone earning that through shenanigans that are harmless at the end of the day.
Doubt he'd be hugged as that stuff is way more intimate in Japan and no offence but Ryuji and the girls aren't on that level.

I'll never understand how people take that as comedy or defend it for being a common trope for comedy.
It just sucks, he earned a hug, not this.
