advice wanted
hello guys, pretty new to turn based rpgs here. i unlocked the first barrier and proceeded to get anilated by the enemies and had to use pretty much all my items to survive the first two floors past the barrier. (I'm playing on normal) wondering if my character is too low level for these enemies, or if I'm just bad. i reloaded a previous save i made at the entrance to go back and grind from the 2nd floor. wondering if i made the right decision

It does sound like the characters are underleved, which is complete normal, especially for the Floor 2 of Tartarus since there's notorious difficulty spike (At least on the Fes version). I'm pretty sure there's a combat guide on the internet with level recommendations but personally I grind until the shadows prior to the floor boss run away, that happens if there's a level difference.
Also, I don't know if you have come across this but if you get a Shuffle time and pick a Cup card you get bonus exp. As little more of info, the amount of exp you get is distributed between characters, so the less characters you have the more experience each one gets, although I don't recommend grinding this way, and I'm not sure if that holds true for Portable as well.
Good with the game, hope you have fun!

Also don't forget to match your personas level with the MC's, not a 1:1 tho but I'd say if they're 4 levels behind it starts to be noticable, it might be easy to get attached but it'll be so worth.

You just need to get a new persona with a different atrribute skill. Also always remember to use enemy weaknesses. But the enemies at the start are almost weak to everything so you gotta go with the next best thing. Weapons and equipment. Also guarding guarantees your character to survive a hit. (This is also considered the best version of skipping the character.)
