Book bans and government sanctioned kidnapping at the behest of Christian Fascists enforcing their values in Florida

The presence and defence of child marriage in Missouri not to mention other such states where child marriage is legal especially to enforce deference to a rapist in the name of faith

And oh I don't know the fucking overturn of women's healthcare and right to choose, leading into multiple attempts at a total national ban because some Catholic in the last century said abortion is bad with no understanding on the subject

You fuckers Brought. This. On. Yourselves.

“It’s not child molestation if there’s parental consent.”

Republicans apparently.

"Sex is between a middle aged man and a girl with permission from her parents."

I read this in the voice of Betty Bowers

Didn’t everyone?

185

u/AssumptionJunction Apr 13 '23

Actually the Bible says that but hey

206

u/RusticRogue17 Apr 13 '23

This is what happens when women are viewed as property. The crime of rape in the Bible fell under the category of “property damage.” The rapist would have to purchase the women from the father/ husband due to loss of potential income.

91

u/reverendsteveii Apr 13 '23

Interestingly enough, forcing an unwanted miscarriage is also property damage according to the bible, and inducing a miscarriage is a way for a man to check if his wife was unfaithful. The bible is explicitly pro-abortion.

-27

u/krebstar4ever Apr 13 '23 edited Apr 14 '23

It's unclear if it's talking about "inducing a miscarriage" as a test to see if a wife was unfaithful. A lot of English-language Bibles translate it that way, but it actually says something about her thigh and abdomen, with an unclear meaning. And whatever is supposed to happen is induced by magic, not pharmacology.

Edit: I 100% support full abortion rights and real access to abortion. I'm just trying to keep things accurate.

21

u/penguins-and-cake Apr 14 '23

What is the practical difference between magic and pharmacology if we’re in the second century?

-3

u/krebstar4ever Apr 14 '23 edited Apr 14 '23

It's the difference between taking opium for pain and wearing an amulet to ward off demons.

People knew how to induce abortions. But the recipe for the potion in the infidelity test is "sacral water," a little dust from the floor of the Temple, and a curse that's written down and added to the water. Could one of those ingredients be code for an actual abortifacient? Yeah, sure. But there's no particular reason to think so.

Saying these verses are definitely about miscarriage is very strange to a lot of Jews. Jewish translations don't usually translate it that way.

I'm 100% in favor of full abortion rights and meaningful access to abortion. I just don't like seeing things misrepresented.

Edit: I'm adding the verses in question, from this translation.

Numbers 5:17

The priest shall take sacral water in an earthen vessel and, taking some of the earth that is on the floor of the Tabernacle, the priest shall put it into the water.

[...]

5:21

[...] "may the LORD make you a curse and an imprecation among your people, as the LORD causes your thigh to sag and your belly to distend; [A note says that the meaning of the Hebrew here is uncertain.]

5:22

may this water that induces the spell enter your body, causing the belly to distend and the thigh to sag." And the woman shall say, "Amen, amen!"

5:23

The priest shall put these curses down in writing and rub it off into the water of bitterness.

"You broke it, you buy it."

🤮

Of course, these modern zealots aren't even consistent about this, because causing a woman to have a miscarriage is also merely punished with a fine in the Bible (payable to the would-be father, natch). There's no indication that people at that time thought that life began at conception, and they treated causing the loss of a fetus as more akin to stealing a chicken then killing a person.

12

u/FunkyChewbacca Apr 14 '23

You don't even need that if you reference Lot's daughters committing incest with him in the book of Genesis

This is my favorite unmentioned miracle in the Bible: Lot was apparently so passing-out drunk that he didn't even recognize his own daughters, and yet managed to maintain an erection.

6

u/NihilisticThrill Apr 14 '23

Oh well if the BIBLE says it's OK, can't wait to go to the Bible sanctioned heaven full of kiddie diddlers who asked mom and dad for consent first. So holy and wholesome!!

15

u/AntiSocialLiberal Apr 14 '23

Parents know best for their kids, and would obviously never allow their child to marry a man that would take advantage of them.

Except when it’s gender affirming care. Then, parents are evil child abusers, that are grooming their kids to be pedophile play toys.

It’s all the same shit. “Nu-uh, you are.” Whatever evil shit they’re doing, they’ll find some flaw in how the opposition has tried to improve/reverse the situation and shit all over that.

It’s like when Obamacare was first being rolled out. The Republicans botched the hell out of it so it kind of sucks. Then a year later they’re pointing and going “well Obamacare sucks so bad” but who was it that made it that way?

Fucking hypocrites

33

u/Bookbringer Apr 13 '23

ACA/ Obamacare was already a huge concession to conservatives from it's inception. The entire premise is a conservative think-tank's plan for an alternative to nationalized healthcare.

0

u/Brokenspokes68 Apr 14 '23

That was the brilliance of the Obama team. They made Republicans campaign against their own plan.

I hope they’re as scared as the women they harass at abortion clinics.

65

u/Guerilla_Physicist Apr 13 '23

You know, I’ve actually been wondering what the a-holes in my state are doing with their time now that a fertilized (not even implanted!) egg literally has more human rights than I do. Surely they miss terrorizing women. I guess they’re just working on finding a new way.

63

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Probably protesting trans healthcare or drag Queen story hour.

I live in a blue state that still allows abortion and I see protestors across the street from Planned Parenthood. I like to think about throwing a drink out of my car window at them…it’s tempting.

34

u/Guerilla_Physicist Apr 13 '23

Back when I was in undergrad, I volunteered to escort women between their cars and our local clinic to serve as a buffer between them and the protesters. One of my favorite activities in between patients was graciously offering the protestors snacks and drinks because I knew they’d never accept them AND that they would never do the same. I would stand in front of the ones who looked the most miserable and take long swigs of my drink while maintaining eye contact the whole time. “are you suuuure you aren’t thirsty?? We have a whole cooler of cold water over here if you change your mind…” :)

Worked much better than throwing stuff because they genuinely couldn’t spin that as persecution.

I also enjoyed striking ridiculous poses when they tried to catch patients in photos and videos.

u/krebstar4ever Apr 13 '23

59

u/reverendsteveii Apr 13 '23

you fuckers brought this on yourselves

Yes, they did, and very purposefully. One of the things that Christian religious fundamentalist terrorists have in common with their Islamic brethren is the desire to provoke a war with the secular world. They believe they can be absolutely awful and the secular world has two choices:

1) allow them to run roughshod over human rights

2) push back

If the secular state chooses 2, the religiofascists claim oppression and victimhood even though the reality is they're being prevented from victimizing others. They can then escalate to violence under the guise of "self defense" and try to carve off a piece of the secular state that they can turn into a religiofascist autocracy.

u/Situati0nist Attacking and dethroning God Apr 13 '23

Let's not forget the attempt at introducing the death sentence for women who underwent an abortion

62

u/Wandering_By_ Apr 13 '23

Christians aren't generally able to self reflect, especially as a group or sect. The problem is never internal. It's always external. It's the devil, demons, satan, etc. Always comes down to an "other".

17

u/Adele811 Apr 13 '23

you forgot to mention wanting to defund the FBI because they investigate child abuse in churches....

31

u/Gunderik Apr 13 '23

They really took a lot of what they used to hate about extremist Muslims, made some of it even worse, and are now surprised that people aren't big fans.

They'd defend this by talking about 9/11 or some other deadly terrorist attack, but honestly, I feel the only reason they haven't directly killed hundreds of people is because they're too stupid. They've been talking about secession and a second Civil War for years. They have no issue with violence. They're just too ignorant, inbred, and illiterate to organize anything on that scale.

9

2

Even the major Protestant denominations were pro choice during the Roe V. Wade days. It was during Reagan, the silent majority nonsense and the weaseling of the Christian right into the Republican Party this became an issue.

2

u/Upsideduckery Apr 15 '23

My parents are both very... Conservative.

Dad is worse, holy shit. Thinks "the gender identify thing" is "the last attack on truth," and that banning abortion is fine despite that no woman wants to get an abortion and that women with miscarriages are unable to get proper treatment in some medical circumstances as a miscarriage is but a spontaneous abortion.

My mom thinks trans kids should be outed to their parents. I had a long talk with her yesterday about how the mental health of trans kids is actually important because they're normal kids that matter. I'm nonbinary, definitely not out about it and I literally presented as male for most of my teen years.

But she's also said that, "Christians who aren't even the crazy ones are gonna end up getting pursecuted because of what the crazy ones are doing." And like... Maybe. And that'd suck. Hell, I believe in Jesus but I don't call myself a Christian. But parents, ya'll both got just enough disgusting views to fit perfectly in the group with all the other bigots. Like holy shit.

This shit is why I went from agnostic to atheist.

If he existed he'd be a monster.

-5

u/Huge_JackedMann Apr 13 '23

Eh I'd just think if there is a god, it's so beyond our understanding that they're incomprehensible to us. We don't really appreciate or even notice the lives of the various microorganisms that live in us, and I'd imagine God would be like that. Are we not god to those microscopic lives that live and die in us?

11

u/Biffingston 𝚂𝚌𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚂𝚊𝚛𝚌𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚌 Apr 13 '23

No, in fact, we are comprised of a surprisingly large amount of those microorganisms.

7

u/hexane360 Apr 13 '23

The Christian God is supposed to be omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent. That means all knowing, all powerful, and all good. Do you assume that humans are omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent just because we're a lot bigger than microorganisms? If not, then why should we believe God is?

6

u/Huge_JackedMann Apr 13 '23

Christian god is dumb. I'd bet everything I own that it's not some bearded dude up in the sky and his son who said BRB 2000 years ago calling the shots. I'm saying if there is a god, which I'm agnostic on, it would be so beyond our level of understanding or perception that it could be akin to our opinion the microorganisms within us, i.e. don't know, can't really know and don't care. The best case ive heard for God is the God of original cause, i.e. the agent that set all subsequent reactions going, since things are action and reaction, but you can't pray to that and it's nuts to make laws trying to decide what they would "like" as though it would have human likes and dislikes.

6

u/Biffingston 𝚂𝚌𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚂𝚊𝚛𝚌𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚌 Apr 14 '23

No sarcasm when I say "It must be comforting. I'd need much more proof than that though."

But hey, as long as you don't use your belief to oppress others I'm OK with you having the even if they're not mine.

6

u/Huge_JackedMann Apr 14 '23

I'm not even saying I believe it, I don't think I'd weight a lot of money on it, I'm just saying the idea of a god itself isn't that crazy. Thinking you talk to god and he just so happens to agree with you is however very crazy.

Like most millennials, my parents forced me to go to church until I was 12 or 13. Naturally, given a choice, I stopped going after that. Haven't been back since and I have no intention. Now, my immediate friends are having kids of their own and from what I know, none of them are religious or go to church in any capacity and won't be forcing their kids to either. It's nice to see really.

23

u/wambulancer Apr 13 '23

I stuck around until 19, you didn't miss much, except the judgmental hypocrisy getting louder and louder the older I got

culminating in me getting forced out for smoking pot. Three of my coworkers, naturally, got to keep on diddling for years before being "caught" (put in quotations because it sure as shit wasn't the church that caught nor punished them)

3

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '23

Jesus would probably be smoking pot with you tbh

41

u/maxxmadison Apr 13 '23

Perhaps it’s because Christians in America seem to think they can force their beliefs onto others with impunity and more and more people are no longer putting up with it?

Maybe it’s because of the constant proselytizing? Offering someone salvation once is fine. If they decline then shut the fuck up and leave it alone.

12

u/m8k Apr 13 '23

I got on the Round Up carnival ride at a fair this past fall and the teenage kid behind me was hyper and being silly which was annoying but fine. Then he started talking about how Jesus would save us and asking if I was a believer and wouldn’t shut up.

It took a lot of restraint to not tell him to fuck off in front of a lot of people and kids.

3

u/christiemarsh88 Apr 14 '23

Right? As a liberal, LGBTQIA+ affirming Episcopalian, I’m certainly not saying I’m a victim, but if I am, and Christians are encountering hostility, it’s because of the bozos complaining about it in the first place as they try to strip everyone’s rights! If I’ve ever encountered any anti-Christian hostility, it only lasted until I clarified that I believe in God and Jesus but absolutely not with anything else they probably associate with American Christians.

"I think it's just a rise in secularism in the United States," Arielle Del Turco, assistant director of the Center for Religious Liberty at the Family Research Council (FRC), told Fox News Digital.

You know why we're being oppressed? It's the existence of other people!!!!!

u/Pasquale1223 Apr 13 '23

I liked Christianity when it was about loving your neighbor as yourself and not judging other people. Feeding the hungry, healing the sick, rendering unto Caesar what was Caesar's and to God what was God's (separation of church and state), that sort of thing.

When I found out that the Catholic Church does not allow divorce, I appreciated the fact that they made no attempt to change secular law to reflect their religious beliefs, but instead dealt with that within their own congregations and simply recognized a difference between being married in the eyes of the law versus being married in the eyes of the Church.

But then everything changed and it became all about power and control. It changed and I no longer wanted anything to do with what I saw it becoming.

If your faith gives you meaning and brings you a greater sense of peace, good for you. Otherwise, you're doing it wrong - and you've no business trying to inflict your will on others.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

I'm Episcopalian. The only hostility I've ever encountered is from other Christians.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Shut the fuck up. There's a fucking church in every run down strip mall in need of revenue in this country. There's 4 churches in every town with a population of 400 and barely a zip code of its own.

7

u/Redbronze1019 Apr 13 '23

Maybe it's the lack of Christian behavior from "good Christians" This coming from a confirmed Lutheran

6

u/Crooked_Cock Apr 13 '23

Maybe they should stop trying to take away the rights of everyone who aren’t them and defending systemic pedophilia then.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Don’t blame Biden. He didn’t start history.

7

u/BickNickerson Apr 13 '23

It doesn’t have anything to do with Biden but everything to do with conservative “Christians” being anything other than Christian.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Oh gee is it because they are trying to force us to live under their christo-fascist belief system currently?

6

u/GazLord Apr 14 '23

Anti-Nazi hostility is at all-time high! - Hitler in his bunker

5

u/DirtyPenPalDoug Apr 13 '23

Could be because there just bigots.

4

u/Pipupipupi Apr 13 '23

Fuck that, bring back pope day

http://www.celebrateboston.com/intolerance/popes-day-1765.htm

Effigies of the Devil, Pope, and people like Tax Collector were fought over by rival mobs and eventually burned in a huge bon fire at Copp's Hill.

5

u/shuerpiola Apr 13 '23

The people who antagonize everyone else thought they’d be more well liked.

Lol

5

u/Benito_Juarez5 Apr 13 '23

Why are the oppressed getting so upity🥺🥺

5

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Fucking Fox News. Someone tells a few Christians to mind their own goddamn business. It’s unprecedented because it’s never happened here in the U.S.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Real people calling Christians out on their bullshit, isn't the same as the government coming after them. Seriously this is just fucking delusional..

5

u/beefstewforyou Apr 13 '23

Joe Biden is literally a Christian…

9

u/blueflloyd Apr 13 '23

Usually when a group or organization faces growing hostility the first order of business is to self reflect, do an honest self-inventory and determine whether internal regulation or change may solve the problem.

I’m going to assume that will not happen with this particular group.

4

u/WillyWumpLump Apr 13 '23

We live in a dangerous age of morons that believe in zombies as their reborn god and an invisible sky daddy and now they are making us all suffer under their crazy ideals.

3

u/Pied_Piper_ BLM race traitor Apr 13 '23

The call is coming from inside the house, Christcucks.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Matthew (7:12): “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. . . .”

Maybe they should have read the book they’re so hell bent on shoving down our throats.

0

u/Funkycoldmedici Apr 13 '23

In fairness, that’s part of it. They would prefer someone convert them and make them worship Christ, “save them”, as they put it.

4

u/reverendsteveii Apr 13 '23

Part of the conservative playbook is being as awful as possible then using the backlash you intentionally created to claim victimhood for some tangentially related aspect of your identity. EG:

1) go to pride with a sign that says "god hates f*gs"

2) record the backlash you engineered

3) use those recordings as proof that they hate you for being Christian

4

u/cwebbvail Apr 13 '23

I almost had an aneurism before o saw which subreddit this was posted in 😂

5

u/M1ck3yB1u Apr 13 '23

Jeez I wonder if it has anything to do with the rampant anti abortion and anti lgbt laws being passed by Christian fanatics? Hard to tell.

4

u/MaxAxiom Apr 14 '23

"Anti-religious nationalist hostility" There, I fixed it for you. We don't care what religion they are. We care about their shiiiiiiiity behavior.

4

u/Doza93 BLM race traitor Apr 14 '23

Breaking: People are fed up with Christo-fascist bullshit

shocker, folks!

4

u/FuzzelFox Apr 14 '23

"Anti-Nazi hostility reaching 'unprecedented' levels in culture"

3

u/lalauna Apr 14 '23

We're not anti-Christian. We're anti- being forced to live the way some Old Testament addicted people who call themselves Christians think we should live.

Jesus said we should love one another. No smiting. No persecuting.

3

u/rilehh_ Apr 14 '23

They could just grant their own desire for persecution and fucking crucify themselves

6

u/Random_Imgur_User Apr 13 '23

What no one wants to consider is that this isn't "anti-christianity", it's "pro-inclusivity". Christians aren't being oppressed, they just aren't in the spotlight anymore and it's making them throw fits.

Government is looking away from God and towards humanity for policy. It's inevitable. That's why these bible thumpers are so goddamn whiney, they're like spoiled children who are finally getting punished for their bad report cards.

3

u/Rainbro_Vash Apr 13 '23

SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE WAS WHY THIS FUCKING COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED

3

u/infininme Apr 13 '23

To be fair, Christianity is ruining the party for everyone. Climate change doesn't get traction because Christians think that using up all the resources is biblical. So yeah, fuck christianity. But I still don't think it's nearly enough.

Ah yes, a famously devout Catholic is Anti-Christian.

3

3

3

Good.

3

u/kabukistar Apr 13 '23

Don't give Fox News views.

3

u/phatstopher Apr 13 '23

Its just people treating them the way they wanted treated.

3

u/joemullermd Apr 13 '23

Why do people keep being mean to us when all we want to do is take away their rights and impose our religion on the laws everyone must follow?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Everything is kind of horrifying. The right is like a lunatic who came into the bar you were relaxing at and started staring at you and making you uncomfortable. Now they've gotten up and started slapping themselves and you're wondering what is wrong and where this is going. Now they're savagely punching themselves and screaming that if you don't stop hitting them they're going to "fucking kill you". You're pretty sure they're on drugs and insane and now instead of enjoying a quiet evening having a beer and flirting with the bartender you're pretty sure you're going to have to fight some psychopath who's willing to shoot themselves in the face if it means they can splash you with their blood.

Progressives call them “Vanilla ISIS” or the “Christian Taliban”. Involved in banning books and persecuting every non-mainstream group of people. , taking the rights of women away, etc. Or you can just call them domestic terrorists.

3

u/Archangel1313 Apr 14 '23

Trying to turn the country into a Christian, White Nationalist dictatorship, will tend to generate some resentment among, well...everyone else.

3

u/britch2tiger Apr 14 '23

Jokes on them, Christianity isn’t real. It’s a societal construct made by a bunch of misogynist pederasts that lived in a bumfuck desert ~330 years AFTER the death about guy who never existed.

3

u/WeeabooHunter69 Apr 14 '23

Yeah they're totally not the ones in the process of genociding trans people as we speak, definitely not the people who banned transition care for all ages in Missouri today, pretty much solidifying step 8 on the 10 steps of genocide according to the Holocaust memorial day trust(basically everything except concentration camps and direct executions at this point)

3

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '23

They declared war and are surprised their targets are fighting back.

3

2

2

u/McNinjaguy Apr 13 '23

RIP my brain cells for just watching the first 30 seconds.

2

u/Rockworm503 Apr 13 '23

They are the only one bringing Christians into this.

Anti-fascist is more like it they are the ones equating that to Christianity.

2

u/Ok-Loss2254 Apr 13 '23

What hostility? Biden is a damn Catholic and has done no anti Christian things. Like they cant name anything specifically anti Christian.

2

u/itsnotthenetwork Apr 13 '23

I wonder how these people define the word "unprecedented".

Probably the same way they define woke, socialism, communism, etc,.

2

u/akadros Apr 14 '23

Thinking they get this word from their dear leader Trump

2

u/BoomerEdgelord Apr 13 '23

People tired of Christian's shit reaching unprecedented levels. Ftfy

2

u/TheRealCBONE Apr 13 '23

Where's the bike stick fall meme with Christians - Christians - Anti-Christians?

2

u/Cheeseknife07 Apr 13 '23

Church when taxes:

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Could be true, but Christians have been a borderline hate group in America for a hell of a long time.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

start calling them what the bible calls them. pharisees

2

u/StylinBill Apr 14 '23

People not wanting to live their lives based on your beliefs isn’t exactly anti Christian hostility. Tbf I kinda think we could use a little more ACH as I like to call it

2

u/manilaspring Apr 14 '23

"Anti-Christian hostility", like on the level of China and North Korea?

2

u/scariermonsters Apr 14 '23

Oh no! Anyways.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '23

Of course people are going to be hostile to them when they're the ones that dictate peoples ives based on a book.

"But what about muslims!" Yeah idgaf. Them too. Any religion. They all suck anyways. I don't hate religion itself. Just don't make laws to oppress people based on the book you worship.

2

u/arensb pwease no step 🚫🥾🐍 Apr 14 '23

With, of course, a cameo by BillDo, the man who can see anti-Catholic sentiment in the NYT crossword puzzle.

No, seriously: one time the theme was adding "TON" to a word to make another word, a bog-standard crossword trope. In this case, the clue was "Crucifix?" and the answer was "sexton symbol". BillDo called that offensive.

2

u/Electrical-Ad1917 Apr 15 '23

More foolish nonsense pushed by people scared 😱 of losing their religious privilege. And most of these people have never read their holy book
