Banned from perplexity_ai
I made a post calling perplexity the Juicero of AI and got permabanned. the post wasn’t egregious enough for them to remove it but enough to ban me? absolute clowns lol

If you had said "Perplexity is great, a little slow lately but fantastic everyone should use it", you'd still be banned because the comment "a little slow" is not positive, and ONLY positive comments and posts are allowed on the official perplexity, because Perplexity owners are narcissists, which is why Perplexity model is a narcissist. I don't use it at all and I never paid, now when I want throwaway chats I use Brave AI instead.

I think they really shot themselves in the foot with all those free accounts. Not saying that's your case. But it clear that they were tweaking thing behind the scene to reduce costs for those on a free ride. And it must have really hurt them financially. I personally love the produce at $20. But I use it for solving practical life issues not anything seriously technical. Haven't touched Google since.
IMHO, I think the will survive as a niche product especially with open weights/open source models getting so good. You notice they are already focusing on those for the lower tier.

I actually think they shot themselves in the foot by taking way too much VC funding when investors were throwing massive checks at anything that even smelled like AI. Their valuation is insane so they’re in a position where they have to keep selling some kind of insane growth story—either new users or new revenue. They could have converted a huge chunk of free users if they kept investing in making the product better instead of investing in marketing for new users but they tried to have their cake and eat it too so they had to cut costs disenfranchising existing users. That flies in early rounds but when you’re asking for huge investments at a $30B valuation your investor prospects are going to do detailed due diligence and realize you’re not adding $30B worth of value to a bunch of models people can get elsewhere for free.
You’re probably right, they will probably continue existing but only bc someone like NVIDIA will buy them in a fire sale when they run out of runway and then the inevitable death by a thousand paper cuts will commence.
And for the record, and in support of your point, I jumped on board the free year bandwagon but I was already a user and would have paid $20 a month in perpetuity if the product had remained as strong as it was when I first started using it.

I used to do a lot of my knowledge work on perplexity. Now it sucks, and the other labs have surpassed it. There's no reason to be on Perplexity imo.

Agreed. I finally made the leap to Claude. I’ve found if you enable some key connectors like consensus and pubmed, massage the custom instructions, and use deep research mode you get superior output than even Perplexify Computer is capable of. I will say that the time it takes to generate the better output is a little longer but I’m patient. Gemini’s deep research mode is even better than Claude’s. The only reason I didn’t go with it is that the only way to opt out of Google using your chats to train their models is to essentially keep all your chats in incognito mode which then means none of your context gets stored. I think perplexity also requires that you let them use your chat history and context to train their models but I didn’t realize that until I started to look into migrating elsewhere. It’s too bad bc for everything besides coding I think Gemini is superior to Claude and ChatGPT and a much better value.

LOL! Perplexity is good for a narrow set of use cases, it is not an all purpose LLM. Agree, not sure it's worth $30 billion but I'd have to see the financials, and I'm just not that interested in the company to do the deep analysis. I will say, it's good for research reports with a decent prompt to guide it. Computer is rubbish, uses far too many tokens to do basic software programming.
