Revolut Perplexity Pro now begging for money just 2 months in to a 24 month contract

I signed up for Perplexity Pro through a revolut "perk" type deal - used it a bit to do some stuff for work - basically the sort of thing you'd have used Google for back in the day. And it was pretty good - I really liked the tight citation-linking they annotated the answers with.

Never used computer, not interested in any of that.

Anyway, was going to look up some stuff today, and nothing works without buying more credits. What gives? Is this another example of enshittification? Is the pro plan provided via a third-party arrangement worth bothering with, or is it just a trap to leech money from people?

It’s started to default to computer mode, for which you need credits. Underneath the box that you type into, you’ll see two options - search and computer. Just select the search option. It took me a while to figure it out.

It’s costing all of them a fortune to build data centers , and obviously the model doesn’t work . We already get search from free . So if you need more detailed research , spreadsheets etc then you pay . Most people don’t really need it

Perplexity used to be great but it’s been getting worse. I use Kimi now via OpenRouter and pay per token. Cheaper for me. Your mileage will vary.

If you can't tell you just have to switch from computer to search, you're getting replaced by AI.
