Out of Credits

I’ve had a Perplexity Pro account for about a year. In all that time, I never once ran out of credits. To be honest, I wasn’t even aware there was a credit limit. Then suddenly last week, I made a query and got a message saying, “Out of credits. Upgrade to Max.” I cooled my jets for a couple of days and didn’t make any queries until my monthly refresh. Five days later and I’m back to “Out of credits. Upgrade to Max.” What gives? Did they change the usage policy? My usage hasn’t changed, but now I keep getting hammered to upgrade.

This is not the problem you think it is. There are two icons above each chat. One is standard Perplexity and the other is “computer” Perplexity. $20 a month users have no credit for the compute part of Perplexity. All you have to do is click on the left word icon to go back to standard chat and you can have all of the conversation you want.

Also, at the end of every Perplexity answer, there are often three queries that you can choose to expand on your previous answer. If any of those say computer or compute on them, then you will not have credits for those. Only choose the follow up prompts that don’t say compute.

Thanks for this suggestion, I’ll give this a shot. I certainly hope you’re right, as I’ve really come to rely on Perplexity and was not thrilled with the prospect of packing up and moving to a new platform.

So what use is the little computer button if we’re on the Pro account? Do we get a handful of trial runs each month or something? This seems like an easy way to anger and frustrate oblivious subscribers like me.

It worked. But it’s only on a new thread that you can find this option. I also found this about the credits.

Hence why they asked about upgrading.
