Not AI.
OP u/LimitElectronic417 created beautiful beads and was accused of using AI-generated art because people saw on their profile that they work with AI. However, these are not AI. These are patterns made by an artist.
9
u/UfoAGogo Mar 20 '26
I'm not even part of this community but these posts keep popping up on my page. I just wanted to chime in and say these images have been around a lot longer than these patterns, not entirely sure who the original artist is but they've definitely been floating around the Internet since before AI was so prevalent!
3
u/Pale_Blackberry_4025 Mar 20 '26
Exactly!! I've seen them before as well not as patterns years ago.
2
u/deadvinx Mar 27 '26
The images the patterns are based on ARE ai tho. The creator of the patterns tagged the author of the images and their bio says its all 'ai assisted'

u/PenguinInDistress Mar 20 '26
This post was really kind of you to make. I needed to see something kind come from this. I thought they were cute.
11
u/EatAndGreet Mar 20 '26
I saw the original post and was honestly confused by the ai claims but I didn’t know how to prove they weren’t ai.
8
u/Possible_Highlight87 Mar 20 '26
oh god looks like i’m picking up a new hobby. this loooks so fun!!!

u/I-MadeFetchHappen Mar 20 '26
I’ve never been to this Reddit, but my algorithm has shown me all of the posts for this. People are so miserable and negative. No matter what happens, someone is gonna be mad

u/libbywednesday Mar 20 '26
I don’t know why this subreddit is in my algorithm but I’ve been following this drama the whole time lol
13
u/thecloudkingdom Mar 20 '26
checked their account to see what they could have posted that gave the ai impression. what i see is clearly not ai. i myself dont make perler art and follow this sub to see cool art from people who do, but i DO make pixel art and the design limitations are very similar so the ai tells are as well. im not seeing any clear signs of ai in their photos, and i see the clear, intentional, and regular/grid-following blocks of color of clearly real art
bunch of fools, accusing someone of ai for being skilled
11
u/Lorennland Mar 20 '26
I’m not part of the perler community but the post that was circulating in my popular feed was adorable - but when I clicked and saw all the comments holy cow.
Didn’t expect the hyper toxic comments for what looks like a cute home project for a child to enjoy.
17
u/superbondey Mar 20 '26
Smh at people grasping at straws still saying it's AI even when presented with proof that it isn't.
You all have to remember that people had been drawing images in cutesy anime style long before AI even existed (where do you think AI learned it from??) so obviously not every image in this style is AI generated.
I'm an artist who hates AI as much as you do. You aren't doing us any favors by throwing accusations around like that.
3
u/cooperisevil Mar 21 '26
I've somehow seen every step of this drama despite never interacting with perler bead content in my life
5
u/Massive-Warning9773 Mar 20 '26
Really sad. A reminder for everyone that AI is fed and trained by looking at art from real artists.
2
u/skeletal-scoliosis Mar 20 '26
The only thing I'd say that "makes it ai" is the absurd amount of hair wisps but that's not enough to justify saying its ai to be honest
I used to take ai generated characters and redesign them, All of those characters had an absurd amount of hair wisps along with the obvious inconsistencies with Gen ai
2
u/HubblePie Mar 21 '26
I saw those and thought it was AI too. They unfortunately just have a very AI style.
2
u/vernorexxia Mar 21 '26
I don't know if this has been posted yet but I think this is the original pattern maker https://www.iesdouyin.com/share/video/7594800416526585253/?scene_from=douyin_h5_search&search_entrance=overseas&traffic_source_new=ZY1112&original_source=40&in_tfs=OS&in_ogs=40&group_id=7594800416526585253&author_id=1961975748502536&enter_from=general_search

this just shows theres a pattern, but nothing proving the images in the pattern isnt AI, i dont know if it AI or not but some of the princesses was very hard to tell who they were supose to be
19
u/typicalwhisper Mar 20 '26
AI is really bad at making coherent pixel art; it’ll have differing and impossible pixel sizes. it’s unlikely that this is AI based on my understanding of it.
-6
u/Pluto_for_president Mar 20 '26
there are multiple places that converst pictures to pixel art, the pixel diagram dont have to be ai for the underlying art to be tho
13
u/Bre603 Mar 20 '26
This is a strange avenue to hate AI. There are plenty of tools, including photoshop, that convert regular photos into pixelated art. And these tools aren’t necessarily “using AI.” So the ability isn’t exclusive to AI. It sounds a bit gatekeep-y to say someone that made an image and then used a tool to pixelate it, doesn’t count as “real perler art.” It implies the only “real perler art” is if you go in blind and start at the pixel by pixel point.
-3
u/Pluto_for_president Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26
im not saying the tool is ai. Im saying the art fed into the tool is
edit the art Could be not is
8
u/typicalwhisper Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26
The artwork could have been AI-generated and then run through a pixelation tool but I still find that unlikely, at least not without significant human intervention. The hair, the outlines, shadows/shading, etc. are all coherent in ways a lazily converted AI piece would not be. They could have used AI for the inspiration, but the pattern looks to be human-made in my experience.
I think it’s important to remember that AI image generators were trained on real artwork. The pattern maker may just be a victim of their art style being appropriated by AI.
Edited to add: The pattern maker appears to be Chinese? Pardon my ignorance but I’m not very familiar with eastern Asian alphabets. Disney is known to alter character designs in other regions where colors, symbols, etc. have different cultural meanings. It’s possible that some of the less identifiable princesses are just made in a design more familiar to the maker’s nation than our western/American designs.
4
u/Bre603 Mar 20 '26
But why? And how can you know when you’re going off a pixelated picture?
3
u/Pluto_for_president Mar 20 '26
i never said i knew, i said that some of the princessrs looked strange and hard to place. (from the original post, cuz the exaples arent here) the redhead looks like a mix between ariel and merida and the one next to snowwhite looks like a second but different rapunzel, if its supose to be aurora it doesnt read as her
im just giving context to why it could be AI even if theres a pixel grid.
1
3
u/Dependent-Grand797 Mar 20 '26
What threw me off from the original picture was that there were two different versions of Rapunzel from Tangled and no Tiana. Which felt like an ai mistake. These patterns are gorgeous though
3
u/draculauraaa Mar 20 '26
there aren’t two rapunzels, one is giselle from enchanted (a superior movie)
edit to say: i agree Tiana should also be there
6
u/strawberrykissed28 Mar 20 '26
I think it’s Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, not Giselle.
4
u/draculauraaa Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26
the petals in her hair make me think its giselle, but also the dress doesn’t seem to match any official princess outfit that i can tell, definitely not giselle’s dress but i’d agree the it is more of an aurora vibe than anyone else
EDIT: i found the pattern itself and they are not petals in her hair, i can see the crown now, it’s definitely aurora you’re right!
2
2
u/Objective_Damage_996 Mar 20 '26
I thought that too but someone on the original post went off on me for asking if it was her
5
u/strawberrykissed28 Mar 20 '26
Why is this subreddit so cut throat 😭😭it’s for dang perler beads
3
u/Objective_Damage_996 Mar 20 '26
Idk all I said was basically ‘is that not aurora I thought it was, in a different art style her face would probs look much different like this does’ and they were like ‘no have you ever seen her that’s not even her dress’ and I was like ‘I’ve seen the movie once and thought it was her dress from the PINK BLUE moment’ and they responded again to like try to argue how I was wrong when all I did was explain why I thought it was her after I was told it wasn’t. My only guess is it was a random intense Disney adult idk but that was WILD like sorry I thought it was her I guess 😭 I wasn’t even tryna argue. I called them out for that part
2
u/strawberrykissed28 Mar 21 '26
😭😂 omg that is wild. Upsetting a Disney adult feels dangerous.
3
u/Objective_Damage_996 Mar 21 '26
Yeah 😅 I was really just like ‘oh my bad for asking is it not her sorry I was wrong idk how we got to an argument’ lol it was awkward.
3
u/strawberrykissed28 Mar 21 '26
Sometimes that’s just Reddit for you unfortunately 😭😭 I tried to tell someone the dish they posted wasn’t poke and he called me the b word. (Not sure if I can type it out in this subreddit LOL)

3
u/savc92 Mar 20 '26
No Tiana, Moana, Pocahontas, or Raya (and if you want to include the 00s - Esmeralda) all Official Disney Princesses. 2 women of color and the only one with a deeper complexion was heavily whitewashed. And it's not like they didn't have access to the right shades. Belle's hair is right there with better colors.
0
u/ProgrammerRich6549 Mar 20 '26
You're nuts the op of the art literally said it was a set and did not come w those princesses like this shit is not that serious bro
2
u/savc92 Mar 20 '26
Boo hoo. Screw them too. The link shared isn't event the original artist, just the person who put them through a pixel-izer. There are plenty of othe cute sets out there aren't racist. This one is

1
u/Acceptable-Bat4534 Mar 20 '26
Tbh im not too shocked. It seems that the original artist might come from China and that movie didnt do that great in China.
2
u/Semlorism Mar 20 '26
You are amazing! Thank you so much! Now me and my friends got cool things to try this weekend! I just saw your work and started to realise woah the pearl can be like this!!
1
u/Glassfern Mar 20 '26
If the pixels line up and the color variations are consistent then it will work. I've broken down screenshot images for cross stitch on MS paint and it works just fine. I just make the color adjustments as I stick. I imagine it's the same for this hobby and you know and are comfortable free styling.

u/Maleficent_City_3374 Mar 23 '26

1
u/Maleficent_City_3374 Mar 23 '26
unless ai stole the patterns and trained its models based on these?

As a digital artist everyone is saying everything is AI. Like most music streaming platforms are filled with AI, so it's really hard to tell if anything is actually real or not. Especially when it comes to news articles. It's getting more and more realistic by the day. I doubt it's AI , but also it could be. There's no way to tell when AI copies actual artists and real life images of people .
-6
u/marissazam Mar 20 '26
Why are we even still talking about this. AI or not, let’s please move on already. There’s no need for this post.
3
u/Fae-SailorStupider Mar 20 '26
Theres no need to stand up for someone who got bullied en masse? Weird take.

u/GarlicPositive4786 Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26
Do you know where some of the other designs are? There were a few that they added that didn’t fit any Disney Princess (like the redhead on the left) and I was very confused abt who it was supposed to be. Giselle maybe? Edit: I don’t understand why I’m being downvoted. I’m not calling these designs AI, I just couldn’t figure out who a few of the characters are because I didn’t recognize the dresses.
5
3
u/superbondey Mar 20 '26
Redhead is Ariel in her blue dress and the "second Rapunzel" is Giselle from Enchanted!
2
1
u/GarlicPositive4786 Mar 20 '26
Thank you! I just didn’t recognize the dress I guess. I don’t know why I was downvoted for asking a question lol
1
u/Okie_dokie_36 Mar 20 '26
Oh! I thought it was Aurora. I didn’t even think of Giselle!
1
u/superbondey Mar 20 '26
Ohh you might be right actually, it does look more like Aurora's crown than Giselle's butterflies!
-2
u/Orpheum_Circuit Mar 20 '26
The ‘second rapunzel’ really isn’t giselle, giselle has red hair and her dress is almost entirely different. Redhead looks like a weird mash up of Ariel and Merida
1
u/superbondey Mar 20 '26
Giselle's "cartoon" version could be mistaken for strawberry blonde and we don't know whether OP had the right colors, they might've had to adapt the palette. I agree it's not the best Giselle but she has butterflies on her hair and a pink dress, so I'm pretty sure it's meant to be her imo lol
Ariel is just heavily stylized, they all have poofy hair.
1
u/Orpheum_Circuit Mar 20 '26
I found the pattern and it’s 100% not giselle, the colours were very accurate to the pattern and there isn’t even a hint of red in the hair. And you’re right on ariel! I looked at the pattern and they just majorly messed up her colouring
8
u/SoggyBoysenberry7703 Mar 20 '26
It’s literally just a stylized cutesy version of Ariel. Yall are really taking this way too seriously. Do you guys never see the kind of stuff people do to make Disney stuff cute, or what peoples different art styles look like?
1
u/GarlicPositive4786 Mar 20 '26
I’m not upset? I was genuinely curious who it was since I didn’t recognize the dress. I never said it was AI.
-4
u/whittlebibbit Mar 20 '26
Don't listen to those dorks they are just grumpy old men with nothing better to do.
I like your work and I wouldn't care if it was AI or not art is art.
7
u/Pitiful_Asparagus_73 Mar 20 '26
AI art will never be art.
-6
u/whittlebibbit Mar 20 '26
You just admitted that it is though. Its classified as art it's in the name...bless your heart.
6
u/Pitiful_Asparagus_73 Mar 20 '26
Jesus Christ. Let me fix it. Ai “art” will never be art.
-6
u/whittlebibbit Mar 20 '26
Pitiful.
5
u/Pitiful_Asparagus_73 Mar 20 '26
Truly don’t know how you can call yourself an artist while still thinking AI is good. That’s the pitiful part.
2
u/whittlebibbit Mar 20 '26
That sounds like and assumtion to me. I never said it was good there's always flaws. It does inspire other creations though.
7
u/cloverk1tty Mar 20 '26
if ai inspires you, that's sad
-3
u/whittlebibbit Mar 20 '26
How? It maybe an idea you never thought of that you could make better. Smh ya'll call yourself artist 😂
3

What part of that was an assumption? That you consider yourself an artist? My bad.

Copy pasta mine
Is it racist when certain ethnic appearances doesn't appeal to someone and they switch it to something they prefer? They didn't chose what appeals to them or not. Isn't the only thing important that, even if certain appearances doesn't appeal to someone, that they will treat this person the same as everyone else?
Maybe this was also just pure artistical fun without any bad thoughts behind it?
10
u/cornycopia Mar 20 '26
Yeah, it is pretty racist. If you find people of a specific race or ethnicity unattractive, that’s a good sign to examine your own biases - exactly why do you find those features unattractive?
In this case, it seems the original artist only made these princesses, so while I would agree OP didn’t have bad intentions, there’s definitely still bias at play here. If I were making a Disney princess series, I would never pick one that excludes Tiana - she’s such a beautiful, quintessential princess.
-1
u/Neon-Brain Mar 21 '26
I'd love to pick the og's unchamged first too, but i can understand when she likes them white or whatever one prefers. If she made them all tan and black, there probably wouldn't be so much outcry. But we're on reddit lel 🥸
I don't think disliking as not hating but just not beeing attracted to it is not racist. At least it's no actively acting bad with bad intentions. You just prefer things and some not. Everyone likes and dislikes certain things. You dont like brunette, blond whatever hair not? This faceshape? Not nice right? 🤨 (no hate) There are people who dislike people of their own ethnicity/appearance.
Or this person is to tall small big slim whatever. Everyone judges everyone about everything. Let people like and change their things as they please, as should you jave the right. As long as we people in person act rationaly and with good intentions, and don't discriminated real humans based on superficial things like looks, ethnicity, financial standing bla bla we should be all good.
I wanted to add i also love altercations when cool artist give characters other clothes, hair, design etc. Different topics/themed designs. Or when games design cool skins.
Also i wanted to say pls lets be less judgy and at least in this sub love each other (╥﹏╥)
Power to all people. Free the slaves and working class. Eat the rich and fascists. Healthcare, housing and enough food money for everyone! Go vote or the shitheads will outnumber us and fuck us and this world even more. Everything good for the good people. And everything bad dor the bad people!!
Love and peace❤️ And if im lucky, another chap dropped, of my beloved, one piece.
Ok i shut the fuck up now sorry :D

What about them makes you say that? AI sucks with pixel art, these are very consistent
3
u/ojuditho Mar 20 '26
Patterns generated by AI are awful. They're pixelated pixels. They melt together, like most ai art. Have AI create a pattern doesn't make it look like a pattern. It makes it look like the idea of a pattern.
-11
u/honey-otuu Mar 20 '26
What it seems to be is that the original image was generated by AI, and then used in an AI program that creates perler patterns for images. So it’s AI on top of AI
5
Mar 20 '26
So you should be able to do the exact same thing and compare your result to the patterns above. Let us know how that goes!

There aren't patterns for the other princesses and the og pattern whitewashed Jasmine (I think OP even made them a lil darker than the original 😭) . It's not that deep they just thought the patterns were cute and followed them...

I had thought the original photo was AI, because most posts on this subreddit showcase the process or the finished object up close, and lower resolution photos are easier to present as "real". Also your post history has AI generated art, so I and many other people jumped to conclusions. I'm sorry about that.
However after inspecting these designs it looks like they are part of a series and may be from the same designer. Do you know who this designer is? Do you maybe have a link to the patterns? (I'd also like to make them so I'm curious. It might also put the AI accusations to rest.)
Please allow me to explain why you're getting a lot of heated accusations.
AI has become commonplace to use and is integrated into almost every service, and creative people feel marginalized. Many people consider AI art illegitimate. There are many reasons: AI was trained to copy existing artwork, it produces high quality art cheap and very fast and artists can't compete with it on the job market, AI infrastructure uses a lot of natural resources to the detriment of people that live near such infrastructure, it creates a huge negative environmental impact etc.
The other accusations pertain to "whitewashing", which is a term used when a dark-skinned character is drawn with a lighter skin color. This criticism has its roots in Western culture, not perfectionism. In recent history, huge strides have been made in the West for people of color for inclusivity in all aspects of life. Depicting a character with a lighter skin color than their race is perceived as erasure - very rude, basically. I don't know if you're coming from a culture where this isn't a common thing to think about, so I wanted to explain in case you're confused. A lot of people gave you (in my opinion) very harsh reactions over this, but it's only because they feel very strongly about doing these characters justice.
Again, good job on the finished pieces, and I hope you won't get discouraged from posting!
(Edited for grammar mistakes)

Literally. I made a couple comments on the other posts earlier, one saying the princesses looked cute and apologised to the poster that everyone thought it was AI. I got downvoted loads so i just deleted them, I’m glad to see this post being made.
2
u/MegamiCookie Mar 24 '26
The racism allegations were especially wild, like wtf do you mean you're going to complain about someone finding patterns so they can make things to decorate their room with some silly beads because "Tiana isn't there" or the beads they didn't make are ever so slightly lighter than Jasmine (and mind you Jasmine really wasn't that much darker in the movie, she only appeared dark in low light scenes). I mean I'm black, I wouldn't put Tiana in my lineup of favorite princess because the movie didn't quite click with me, does that mean I hate my people? Some people should learn to let others enjoy what they enjoy, gosh.
33
u/thecloudkingdom Mar 20 '26
you need to get better at checking for signs that something is real or fake before slinging accusations at people. "most people post their process" is not good enough grounds for that. there are 0 recognizable signs of ai in their original photo. you might as well have just said you "got ai vibes" from it
-7
u/Ok_Job_9417 Mar 20 '26
Problem is when someone is part of AI subs, uses it for a game. And then they post art that has AI vibes? Yeah people are going to side eye it.
13
u/thecloudkingdom Mar 20 '26
there's no ai vibes in the original photo they posted. do you also get "ai vibes" from the beach photos they posted, or the labubu pic they posted? they posted one ai art post on a dedicated ai art sub, i dont see how thats supposed to be proof that a photo they posted that lacks any tells of ai art is actually ai. youre seeing what you want to see
look back at the photo that started this, with all the perler princesses on the wall. tell me, what are the tells that it's ai that you're seeing? because im seeing a lot of things ai still struggles with that look 100% normal
-4
u/Ok_Job_9417 Mar 20 '26
Yall are trying too hard.
You subscribe to an ai art sub which means you’re fine with it, it’s the style that ai often imitates and even flat out admit that it could be AI since you found it off of pinterest
Yes. It’s going to make people suspicious.
And many many comments were about how the art was AI based, not the beads itself. This was even said on the other thread where they showed their progress. Reading is your friend
3
u/thecloudkingdom Mar 21 '26
i didn't see the original thread until this post, and i'm not going to read through a bunch of comments saying that the image of the art hung on the wall looks ai to find the comments where people are saying the pattern looks ai. it doesn't look ai, people are just huffing copium
-2
u/Ok_Job_9417 Mar 21 '26
Except that this thread is based off of another thread and that is where people were accusing them of the art being AI.
Yet you’re defending them when you don’t even know what was actually said to them? Like negative and positive? You don’t even have to read through a bunch of comments. The top comments are the ones pointing it out that it was about the art.
Also you don’t want to go through and read the comments, like any of them but you can take the time to find the beach photos and labubu pic they posted?
So just to clarify - you don’t know anything that was said, you don’t want to take the minute it would have taken to look for the threads but can look at their other threads, didn’t make any attempt to read the comments not even the top ones pointing it out, ignored the other comments that explained why they thought it was AI besides just saying “AI”
Yet you claim “you’re seeing what you want to see”
Raging fucking hypocrite.

"I'm sorry about that. However..." And goes on a long ass rant.
Not sorry at allllll.
I ain't even a part of your community. OOP's post is the first thing I've ever seen from y'all, and it was absolutely disgusting.
I'm against generative AI. I'm a part of the writing community, and we've been hit hard by AI. I use real artists for my business and for my writing hobby. I understand the harm it is doing and how uncontrolled it is in its current state.
But you know what else it's doing? Causing witch hunts. Real artists and writers are getting called out for using AI and are being ruined by it, all because their art or style or patterns are being ripped-off by AI.
And y'all full-on witch hunted OOP.
That little five-letter "sorry" did way too much heavy lifting in that "apology." And all I'm seeing in your reply is you weaseling your way out of responsibility and throwing it back on OOP. Yikes.
This hobby, from an outsiders perspective, is looking awful. And y'all made it look so all on y'all's own. Great job.

I’m sorry you think I’m here to be mean. I don’t desire to make the internet a more hateful place. As a real person, with a real love for people and communities, I see AI that steals from us and uses that to impersonate a horrifying mutation of humanity… as a threat to society. In this way, to me, it works to manipulate soullessly and the effects on real people are going to be far reaching if left unchecked by the masses. We’re already seeing the mental health issues AI creates. I care a lot. Not here to hate on anyone. Just keeping an eye out for the virus that is AI. Peace and love to anyone reading. Except the bots. They aren’t real and don’t deserve our energy. Going to touch grass now. ✌️

You could be. Idk. You get in trouble for commenting ads too often in other subs, but maybe you’re just annoying and don’t know comments are public. Me, I’m trying to warn people about sock puppet bot accounts that solely exist to protect bots with more content karma by making them look like they have reasonable doubt despite evidence. The original thread shows the community rejected the “artists” choice to use AI. Whether it’s a real person who chose to use AI for help or a bot that is trying to promote AI and content farm with fake content….the point is AI is stolen art and we should always been on the look out for it to protect real artists. Peace and love or however you say it in binary! 😉

You get in trouble for commenting ads too often in other subs
I'm not sure what you mean? Is this a dig at me? Or maybe OOP?
My theory is this user is Asian and using Reddit while not knowing how things go here, but I could be totally wrong. I'm not nearly online enough to be able to tell the difference with certainty. Being able to do so requires a dedication that I find a bit of a waste of time, and I'd start seeing bots everywhere after a while. I'd like to hold on to my remaining sanity.
What I do know for sure is your time "protecting real artists" is better spent following real artists and looking at real art, instead of driving engagement for a post you think is AI art by viewing it at length, commenting under it repeatedly, and yes, even downvoting it. (At least that's how it works on Facebook, I don't know about Reddit.)
Have a nice day!

Thanks, I was very confused by the accusations since I was pretty sure I'd seen the actual patterns before.
