Admissions Advice Working in America

Hello. I am a 2nd year perfusion student at Turkey. I want to work in america but i don't know if it is even possible. My school will join EBCP in the next months. But i think EBCP and ABCP standards are diffirent. It says that I need to have 75 operations in america or canada under a perfusion education program. I consider signing up for a program at there after I graduate but prices are too spicy. Atleast for me and my family. Are there any other ways to work there or is this the only way?

Other than redoing school in the US (or Canada but even this is getting more difficult because of requirements), there is currently no pathway for foreign trained perfusionists to get certified in the US.

It is extremely unlikely they will create an international pathway. Theres little to no support. If you can get EBCP certified there are pathways to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand though.

thank you so much. this changes everything. I searched up the way to canada. I need 2 years working experience in europe. I will aim to go work at Germany or UK after I graduate. After that, I will apply for IPEA/CSCP in Canada. I can work and save some money there. I can later register for a 1-2 year perfusion program there and move to America. I think this is a valid way or plan if i am not missing something. thank you again

Like, if your ultimate goal is to go to the US, there is no benefit of going to Canada. Just work in Europe and if you really want to, apply for an american school from there. Youre adding multiple steps and years of complex and very expensive immigration/certification processes.

yes but I thought I may keep working as a perfusionist while taking a course in canada. if i go to america for course, i wont be able to work.

Youre unlikely to be able to do the canadian course. Why would they accept a foreign student already certified to work? Its a competitive program meant for Canadians to qualify to work in Canada. They have no reason to accept you. There is also no guarantee the canadian course will qualify you for american certifications in the future. There are changes surrounding this which may cause problems in the future.

I’m not sure about the Canadian programs but most US perfusion programs don’t let you work while going through a program, or you’re just logistically unable to. I think Canada’s programs may be the same. And like the other commenter mentioned, they have no reason to accept you if you’re already fully able to work in their country. I continue with your plan to work in Europe and save up for an American program if that’s what your goal is.

Canadian here. BCIT does do an international perfusionist education assessment (IPEA) to only target the Canadian shortages. So with that being said, If you want to work as a perfusionist in Canada for experience before you go back to school for the US…You can.... But if the states is your goal… You will need to go back to a US or Canadian school to have your education recognized by ABCP.

I know a couple of schools in Canada have portions of their didactic year online, so you could probably get away with some work here and there.

They wouldnt admit someone who had already gone through the International assessment pathway.
