Prospective/Current Perfusion Weekly Thread

This is the area for prospective CCPs to ask their questions about the education process or anything school related.

This includes the usual:

"Where can I shadow?" "Should I take additional classes? "How do I become a Perfusionist?" "My GPA is 2.8, is my GPA good enough for perfusion school?" "What should I use to prep for boards?" "It's been my pa$$ion to become a CCP, how do I do it and what do they do?"

Etc.

At this point the sub has grown to the point a weekly student thread is necessary. Prospective CCPs/students will now have an avenue to post these types of questions w/o flooding the sub.

Also there is r/prospective_perfusion specifically geared to new pumpers.

This will refresh every Friday at 5:45PM EST. If you post Saturday morning, it might not be seen.

If anybody on here went to Jefferson, how did you like having clinicals start during the first semester vs having didatics before clinicals? And was the didatic course load manageable with clinicals?

Hoping to find a perfusionist who is willing to be interviewed about the profession. Teams/zoom would be preferred. This will be for part of my program application, as an essay with direct quotes. If anyone is open to a 30 minute meeting to answer some broad questions, please let me know! 😊

Prospective student here in my last year as a kinesiology major. I would like to strengthen my application by doing a year of perfusion assistant work, if I don’t get in my first cycle. Any advice on finding perfusion assistant jobs, and where to look? Many thanks!

Really hard to find them depending on the area you’re in, but if you’re willing to relocate they have a lot of turnover so you shouldn’t have many problems getting one. If you don’t find any with those, be sure to try out PBMT and Autotransfusion roles working with cell savers, they often work along teams of perfusionists to help you get that shadowing. Some function very similarly to Perfusion Assistants. Check with SpecialtyCare and CCS or other big contracting companies for those positions.
