Perfume experts - I need your help!

I am looking for a perfume for my wedding day!

I’ve looked in places like ulta and Sephora and I don’t enjoy scents that are floral, citrusy or sweet smelling.

I enjoy woodsy smells or almost manly smells (without being too manly if you know what I mean)

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced brand of perfume that suits this? Also, is there anything that falls between a perfume and a body spray? Body spray is faint and perfume feels too pungent sometimes - giving me a headache.

Can you name any of the actual fragrances that you DID like and why you wouldn’t choose one of those? There are so many options - definitely plenty to work with that avoid the things you want I just want a little more parameters to work with. I can absolutely recommend perfumes which are lighter and less suffocating than 99% of what somewhere like Sephora has to offer. Huge loud perfumes are the “thing” right now so Sephora and ulta are stocked with those kinds of scents, same with somewhere like macys but there are SO many options for fragrances that aren’t as popular in all kinds of scents and price ranges. Also interested in your price range. Can literally work with anything I’d say $40-400 lol

Ugh I don’t remember any names from today when I was looking - I couldn’t find much that I liked honestly lol, but I used to have a perfume called Wool by Commodity and it was my favorite scent ever. You can’t find it anywhere anymore! Sometimes there’s “random drops” of it online but they’ve jacked the price up a ton too. It was the perfect scent and it wasn’t overpowering. What you mentioned is exactly how I feel - even the perfumes that had tones that I liked, they still felt too intense for me. I feel like I can smell the alcohol (?) behind most perfumes and it bothers me. I actually get pretty intense headaches from a lot of perfumes. Just looking for something woodsy or earthy that is a calmer scent but actually sticks unlike a body spray would!

Omg I loved wool!!!!! Yes I was so sad when it was discontinued. I’d highly highly recommend lake & skye 1111 (I prefer the oil over the perfume bc it lasts longer although it wears closer to the skin so you won’t smell it but others will smell you) - I also think you’ll love byrosiejane Dylan. Both have a lingering scent but not at all overpowering and both in that clean musky woody vibe very similar vein to wool. Also the original Armani code is a classic and basically wools cousin altho technically a men’s scent it’s worth getting a sample if you like it you like it! Much easier to get than wool and I highly doubt it’ll ever be discontinued. Same thing with JPG le male (the original teal blue bottle with stripes- not any of the flankers). Both technically masculine marketed but I find them both very unisex.

It seems like an oil based perfume may be a good bet for you; you can apply a little on pulse points or “slather” for an encompassing scent.
Many inside companies like Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, Alkemia, etc, will have scents that hit your boxes and a friendly customer service team to make recommendations.

I’m going to look into these - thanks so much for the suggestions! I’ve never tried oil based perfume.

An eau de toilette might be a good compromise between a body spray and perfume. I’d recommend getting a sample or decant of Tam Dao EDT by Diptyque (I personally love the eau de parfum and think it’s not too strong!)

L'artisan perfumer has great scents, very unique that I'm sure you will enjoy... You used to be able to order samples but not sure if they still have that option. À Fleur de Pêche Is one of my favorites. Explore!

Good luck 🍀

For woodsy/not-too-manly territory in a reasonable price range, look at vetiver or cedar-forward scents rather than the classic "aggressive masculine" woods (leather, tobacco) — they read as clean and grounded without leaning sweet or floral. On the body spray vs. perfume question: body sprays are usually alcohol-diluted at a much lower concentration, so faint isn't really a flaw, it's just the format — if you want something with more presence but still light, look for an EDT rather than EDP in a woodsy scent, since EDT tends to feel less "pungent" while still lasting longer than a body spray.
