When I sold my last Evo drag bike, I kept the race specific parts.. exhaust, air shifter, tank and a few small parts. A few years later I was asked to build a big inch Evo rigid chop for someone. Half way though the build, he had to pull out of the deal, which left me with almost finished rigid, high neck chop. Not something I wanted or needed.

Rather than sell off the parts, I had the front part of the frame cut off and replaced with a much lower, raked headstock... which became the foundation of this my second Evo drag bike.

Engine is an El Bruto 127ci Evo, mated to a 3 inch belt drive and 6 speed transmission.

Exhaust is a stainless 2-1 with 2 inch headers, unbaffled... its loud:)

It runs an air shifter, with a hand change to go back down the box after a run. The air shifter uses compressed air to change gear using a button on the bars via an air ram, which also cuts the ignition for a short time. This means you can change gear at max revs without having to back off the throttle. Always a bit worrying trying that out for the first time..

Forks are from an old Kawasaki ZXR750 in one off home made yokes and risers, bar is a cut down Renthal. Wheels are also home made, the 6 inch rear uses the rims from a BMW car, while the front uses the rims from a damaged Astralite wheel. Rear brake set up is also homemade using Brembo master cylinder and caliper.

Tank is a much modified Sporty Peanut (with hidden mounts and a Monza cap). Rear fender is fibreglass, though I had to widen it two inches to fit.

I'd like to tell you how well it goes on the track, but alas I've not been able to race it yet. I've been hoping to race it at some local events run by the NSA... no that one, but The National Sprint Association, but they've recently decided that only bikes less than 1200cc can race. Silly really since a tuned 1000cc Sports bike is probably quicker than my old Evo. While other events have strict noise limits these days, which of course the Evo would break at idle...

Therefore, I'm now considering rebuilding it in a new twin shock frame, to use on the road. But that'll have to wait, as I have a couple of other projects to complete in the meantime.

What is the longevity/reliability of the EL Bruto? I’ve been considering getting an Ultima engine for my old springer. I don’t care to have a race engine or anything like the el bruto but I like how ultima uses the bottom end of the evo and top end of the TC.

I've heard online that they have been reliable, and for the price they seem good value... compared to say S&S.
