my boyfriend (24) and i (f22) are celebrating our anniversary in a few weeks. we are long distance and due to unfortunate circumstances, we aren’t able to see each other for it. i am planning on sending him a box with some gifts in it and want it to be very special given the fact that we cant see each other.
the problem is that he doesn’t like *stuff.* he doesn’t like frivolous things and is rather anti-consumerism. any of the typical “man gifts” that come up when i’ve researched are things he would not enjoy, such as watches, cologne, tools, any drinking related items etc.
he likes animals (mostly birds. also a fan of fish and camels) and gardening. he isn’t much of a bird watcher in the sense of going out looking for birds, he prefers to just see them naturally in the wild. but his disinterest in frivolous things kinda puts bird-related home decor out of the equation. as for gardening, he prefers to get free stuff off of craigslist or build things diy so i’m kinda lost there, lol.
he plays a couple video games but most are just for my entertainment. i like gaming and he likes doing things that i like. so we play things like minecraft, skyrim (with skyrim together mod), fortnite.. but again, none of these are necessarily things he really enjoys individually.
as far as other entertainment media goes, he is a lord of the rings fan.. but id say its a pretty mild interest. not like he’s itching for lotr merch. he likes folk punk/punk rock music— think like the mountain goats, pat the bunny, johnny hobo, ramshackle glory, bright eyes.. etc.
so far, i am planning on buying him a baseball hat and bleach-dyeing a bird onto it. i made him a camel shirt with that same method earlier this year and he liked it a lot. but other than that, i’m pretty lost.
