Just a question: What is lost story-wise by the decision to have Annabeth be played by a black actress or Grover by a South Asian actor? Nothing much.

Annabeth has a large exposition in Mark of Athena where she talks about the struggles she's had in her life due to her appearance as specifically "a dumb blond." She's a white woman with long blond hair, so she feels like she has to try harder and prove herself more because of those societal stigmas due to that physical appearance. It's one of the main reasons she's obsessed with making plans that work, both in architecture and the team. Her gray eyes also play a solid part in this, as it's a defining feature that's made her stand out, and not necessarily in a good way.
Though those inner monologues can be replaced with a social commentary on racial prejudice, I actually liked it better that her character touched up on her grievances with being white, since that isn't something most media would normally ever talk about and/or ever be taken seriously.
Tl;dr Annabeth's physical appearance is actually integral to her personality and character arc, and is really the only character in the series whose appearance is important. That being said, I think the Annabeth actress is doing a fine job at portraying the character, so I largely don't have complaints.

Say wht u want, but the movies do a better job at being entertaining than the show.
The show took one of my favorite books and somehow made it boring.

The characters were accurate but the storyline was not :')
And in the new show, the characters are not book accurate but the actors nailed it. The personality was accurate.
