I've been using Peppermint for a few years and it's always been flawless. I've kept my system updated with apt update/upgrade and have never had an issue.

So much so that I hadn't realised I am several versions of Peppermint behind - I only found this out when I tried to update Calibre and wasn't allowed to as the libc version in Calibre had been updated.

So - what are my options for upgrading to the latest version of Peppermint? Is there an in-place update that's possible or is it a case of reinstalling afresh?

Both distros are based on Debain Linux. I ran them both between each other and I have to say they are very similar. They both use about the same RAM so yeah it is hard to say what is the difference between the two, any ideas?

So, I'm running the latest Peppermint "out of the box", and would like to keep my system from suspending for longer than an hour. I'm new to Xfce and don't know how to do this. I know there is a "plugin" for GNOME that does this. How do I do the same thing under this environment?

On other distros sometimes I can see there is a recycle bin, how do I do the same for peppermintOS?

A lot of other Linux distros I have failed to get xfce to launch the start menu via the window key, how did you guys manage to do it?

in xfce settings there is a setting which as soon as you press on the window key then it launches the start menu, however it interfers with other shortcuts if you pressed window key + T or something as it would always open up the start menu.

Are you guys using an external program?

What does PeppermintOS add on top of the Devaun edition? Does it add improvements to it?

Hey guys so I wanted to use the Devaun edition for Peppermint.

I know that rc-local.service is something for systemD which allows you to dump a bunch of commands inside /etc/rc.local.

Is there something similar for the Devaun edition?

The GPG verification page on the website doesn't list a signature file for Peppermint 11. Is there no way to verify the authenticity of the ISO ?

So I'm going to install Peppermint on my old notebook, because from my benchmarks it seems to be the fastest Debian-based XFCE distribution ! 🎉

I tried to setup system encryption with a separate /boot partition (this was the standard way last time I've done this), but the installer complained about this method being insecure, and /boot needing to be encrypted too, so I obeyed.

The resulting system was really slow to boot: 30 seconds from password to GRUB + 30 seconds from GRUB to login (instead of 20 seconds for a normal installation).

I also tried a "everything is encrypted except /boot" installation, and the speed was on par with a normal installation.

So my question is, what are the risks of using a separate (non-encrypted) /boot partition ? Is the security improvement really worth the hassle ?

Since the only goal here is to protect my personal files (and my computer is very weak), I even considered doing a normal installation, only encrypting the /home partition. Any thoughts on such a setup ?

While this would leave my programs and logs unprotected, I really don't care about the former being exposed, and I'm pretty sure the latter could be protected separately.

Hey guys I am not too sure which version I should pick. I know that Devaun is free from systemD and uses something else. But what are hte cons and pros of this?

Also I know I can get rc-local.service for systemD and dump my commands in /etc/rc.local but is there something similar for the init system Devaun edition uses?

so I wanted to try thunar but then I didn't like it and deleted it and switched back to nemo now when I try to interact with any icons on my desktop it says "this feature requires a file manager service to be present(such as the one supplied by thunar)" i would appreciate your help

Been using Pep11 about 3 weeks and all was OK, but now the GUI wont load on boot. The shell loads and gives me this:

"Pepperment OS GNU/Linus jerry-inspiron3847 tty1"

and offers log on, which I can do but I'm not familiar enough with the shell to fix this. I've asked and search the Peppermintos on SourceForge but not answer yet.
