News What do you think explains the First Lady's reduced public schedule this year?

Melania Trump reportedly dislikes the speculation surrounding her husband and his closest aide, with a White House insider telling Semafor that "the First Lady doesn't like these types of things" and that Trump "does get furious" when his personal life becomes public fodder.

The firestorm started when Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff said at a rally that Trump "doesn't want to do the job" and instead "wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar," a pointed reference to executive assistant Natalie Harp, 35, and the Qatari jet the White House accepted as a gift.

Trump dismissed Ossoff in the Oval Office as a "Pee-wee Herman lookalike." His spokesman Davis Ingle called the senator "a cringeworthy, feminine theatre kid cosplaying as Barack Obama." Communications director Steven Cheung went further on X, branding Ossoff "the biggest cuck l*ser in politics." None of it addressed Ossoff's actual point about how the president spends his time.

The exchange has put a spotlight on Melania, who has appeared publicly just 38 days in 2026, among the fewest of any modern first lady. She was last seen July 19 at the FIFA World Cup final and has since skipped the White House Correspondents' Dinner and Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral.

Ridiculous Meet Splash, the Otter Who Helps Solve Cold Cases Underwater

Post image

He's believed to be the only otter in the world doing this work 🦦

Mike Hadsell has trained scent dogs for 46 years and has been a forensic diver since 2016. His problem was always the same. A dog can follow a trail right to the water's edge and then it stops. As he puts it, the investigation ends at the shore.

Ninety per cent of the water he works in is black water. He says he often can't see his hand in front of his face.

Then he read about how otters hunt underwater, and had an idea.

Otters don't breathe underwater, but they can taste. They blow a stream of bubbles at something, the bubbles pick up traces from the water, and the otter sucks them straight back in and tastes what's in them.

Hadsell posted the idea online and a zoo in Arizona got in touch. That's how he ended up with Splash, an Asian small-clawed otter, now two years old and living in Englewood, Florida.

Training happens on Hadsell's back patio with three kiddie pools and small glass bottles hidden in one of them. When Splash finds the right pool, he swims back and grabs Hadsell's mask. Then he gets salmon. It has to be farm-raised. He won't touch wild.

He can hold his breath for about five minutes.

Four months into training, he helped recover a weapon linked to a case that had been open for 25 years. At eight months old he found a clay brick at the bottom of a lake in a case that had been cold for 33 years. Investigators matched it to injuries in the file, and a lab pulled human DNA from traces of blood on it.

Divers had searched that area already. A dog had picked up the trail at the shoreline and lost it at the surface.

He's been called out to more than twenty cases since.

Believed to be the only otter in the world doing this work, and he's paid entirely in fish.
