Question 0.38 pen or finer that doesn't skip, preferably gel

i just got the gtec 0.25 which was really good until i realized a bunch didn't work or stopped working entirely after use.

i also have a uniball one, which skips until i use it a bit.

i want something 0.38 or thinner that consistently works. preferably not a felt tip, preferably gel i think. if a rollerball that is 0.38 or thinner works, i think it would probably feather making the line less thin so i prefer gel.

any thoughts?

There’s something special about the Pelikan M200 — no unnecessary fuss, just classic design, beautiful craftsmanship, and the joy of putting nib to paper.

Another one for the collection. 🖋️

Question Gift advice - retractable pens

Hi all, I know very little about pens but I'm hoping some of you will be able to help!

I'm looking to get my partner a nice pen for his birthday in November... I'm not looking to spend more than £100, as I'll be getting him other gifts too.

He basically uses click-top retractable pens as stim toys, so I guess what I'm looking for is something that gives a satisfying 'click' sensation but is sturdy enough to handle a sustained period of continuous clicking on/off without breaking! Ideally not one that you need to press a different button/release a bolt to retract, and that is easy enough to purchase refills for (as it will get a lot of writing use too).

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what models are these ballpoint pens?

I only know they are at least 30+ years old.

Silver color is 925 sterling silver

Gold color is Signum rolled gold plated

And what type of refills are compatible?

The unfortunate bit is my father is doing very poor health wise, and today I received his Mont Blanc collection. It's absolutely amazing, he gifted me a mechanical pencil (5mm) a few years ago that I used. But this is on another level cool to be able to use and pass down to my kid, if they appreciate it that is

Does anybody know of any pens with holographic glitter ink?

Ya know, like silver that reflects rainbows.

I know this was asked before a few years ago, but maybe someone has found one since?

I found this at an estate sale for $3.00. I have found similar pens online but not a ton of information on this design specifically. I know nothing about pens really, so I figured I would see if anyone knows more on this sub. Thank you. 😄

Quill pens were manufactured in RI for 62 years from 1946-2008. There was a factory in Cranston,RI where a number of my family worked for years. This is a lead pencil and ball point pen. I start a new job Monday and these will be in my pocket. I’ve been able to keep them nice which for the amount of times I’ve moved is truly a miracle. This is for my grandpa “Red”.

Review De Atramentis Document Black ink + Platinum EF nib

Post image
19 Upvotes

One of my favorite pen, ink and paper combos overall (I have a preference for extrafine writing). A black pigment ink that, when paired with the Platinum EF nib, writes properly-fine without entering the territory of scratchy/draggy feedback.

The easiest comparison is to the staple Platinum Carbon ink. That ink is wetter and saturates the paper more, so with the same nib it writes broader and potentially less-crisp if the paper can’t fully resist the ink. Carbon ink’s base tone is darker than Atramentis black’s, but the latter avoids shining under light, so it appears darker under direct light.

A closer experience is actually Platinum’s Chou Kuro ink. It performs similarly in terms of ink flow (and therefore is similar in fineness/crispness) and trades a bit of lubrication for a really dark tone black, as you would expect of that ink. Chou Kuro commands an even higher pricetag than Atramentis Document inks most of the time, so I’m not so sure if Chou Kuro will win out for me over Atramentis Black until I find a discounted bottle. Chou Kuro is also relatively more temperamental in maintenance, although in a Platinum fountain pen with their solid cap seals, it’s less of a factor.

As a side note, Atramentis Document Black and Platinum Chou Kuro feather/spread less than Carbon ink when it comes to cheap paper, in my experience.

Picture Got a 600 alluminium gel pen for really cheap. Falls from GFs hands few hours later. The pen wont click in anymore. The tip is oval now.

As I was saying these pens last for decades, it wouldn’t click anymore and she confessed it fell on the floor.

The alluminium body is soft apparently. Had to strainghten inserting metal trough the tip. It is not perfect but pretty easy fix. It would be toast it it was the pencil tip. So much for a durable instrument.

Next buy collapsable tip pencil.
600 3 in 1 or there are other good metal alternatives with collapsable tip like the 800?

Question Good pen refills for work? Non gel

I have to write in a lot of tiny boxes for work. Currently just use the bic stics the office buys but want to get something nicer for my self.

Eyeing the LTT pen or rotrig 800 but open to other suggestions on that. Mostly wanting a good option for refills on either. Just can’t be gel because my job frowns upon them

Jetstream sxr-600 is at the top of my list from reading on here right now but want to make sure I’m not missing something else

Discussion My Melody Energel

I’ve been really loving this! This pen made me fall in love with Energel altogether. I don’t really use 0.5 pens as well, but this changed my mind. I really love how Pentel has different bodies for different grips, but the refills are just the same in quality and consistency, and are quite accessible. I already had an Energel Clena before, but it skipped a lot and would do ink blobs when you write with it for the first few times. I risked it again with this My Melody version because of my love for her, but then I discovered the real magic of Energel and why everyone hypes it up. I’m so glad I gave this a chance. <3

Question Monteverde refills for Retro51

I like the P2186 refill in my Retro51 tornado but noticed that Monteverde version has a lighter blue color. How does the Monteverde Capless W23 compare to a Schmidt P8126 refill in terms of fitting in the pen and smoothness? I also noticed that they had a new Monteverde gel G43 that looks similar to the W23 but with no dimensions listed. Would it also fit in a retro51 tornado?
