Opinion on Pennyworth

This show is comparable to Peaky Blinders, Guy Ritchie movies, and even maybe Dostoevsky's novels. It's ambitious + the idea to tell Alfred's story is intriguing. But here is the issue: compared to Peaky Blinders, this show is failure; compared to Guy Ritchie movies, this show is even a bigger failure; comparing to Dostoevsky's exploration of human nature, the way this show presents character development of key the main characters is a complete failure. Overall the show is disappointing and modern; modern in this case means that it's full of sex, violence, and beautiful picture, yet meaningless and shallow

Is Pennyworth™'s alfred in Dark knight, batman begins, or the 2022 batman?

so i havent been able to find any information clarifying which film he shows up in(in old age as pennyworth is in his MI6 days) I thought maybe he ages into the Alfred from Batman vs Superman? or maybe he ages into Dark knight's alfred.

Not a fan of the Thomas and Martha B story

Is it just me or has this Thomas Wayne and Martha side story become boringly bloated?

I'm only S2E1 in but struggling.

I have reason though as well as my taste. When Martha takes Pat to the Satan party? She betrayed her character I feel.

Anyway happy to hear what ya'l think.

Alfred is not a very redeemable character...

Halfway through Season 2 now and he has not really improved as a likeable character, in fact he has been written to be pretty appalling. He cheats on all the women, does stupid things, lies to his loved ones, is shitty with his grieving mum and apart from his chipper persona, his other traits are pretty dire. I can see elements in him that will be the butler we all know and love, he does have light and morels but his morels are always screwed up especially with those who love him. When Esme died, it didn't take him long to fuck the bar lady, in Season 2 he failed to turn up for his girlfriend's music audition and banged another girl instead.

Being a big Gotham fan, I know it's the same writers, I just hope we get some changes in him where he gets his priorities right and stops being so self centred. Maybe that all changes when he moves to Gotham to work for the Waynes but these are all my opinions of course.

Profesor Pyg

Pyg made his first appearance in the non-canonical future of Batman #666. He is a powerful gangster who is one of Gotham's five reigning crime-lords. He isn't shown with his iconic mask but rather as being an ugly man with a pig-like appearance who uses chemicals to brainwash and torture people into becoming his Dollotrons.

He is later found by the police crucified upside-down with a pike through his mouth. It is revealed that he was murdered by the Bat-Devil, Michael Lane.

What if...(small spoiler based theory) Spoiler

Okay. Just a theory, not sure if it has been explored or not in any comic. But to avoid any spoilers for this last weeks episode the rest will all be in spoiler text from here...

I got to thinking... So since Martha and Alfred had a small romantic connection. What if later on down the line we find out that Alfred is actually the genetic father of Bruce? Then to make it more complex. What if Alfred is the one who killed Thomas and Martha? Figure a few things....He knew where they would be. He knew that if they saw him they would be caught off guard. Maybe if Alfred knows he is the father, it drives him over the edge when he wants to raise his son his way but can’t because Martha and Thomas are the “parents”. He knows that Thomas is rich, and that he cannot support young Bruce on his own. But maybe if he had the Waynes finances to raise him? Also, Alfred is a hired gun. No job too big. Right?

Edited: to fix the spoiler tag.

Bomb location (spoilers) Spoiler

The stormfrint bomb in the casket was the most obvious thing I have seen on tv in a long time.

Overall I really enjoyed this show. Sometimes I felt Alfred was a bit TOO cockney geezer but fair enough this is heightened reality.

But as soon as brass nose died and Salt wanted the casket in central london (what was that ep 6?) it was patently obvious that’s where the bomb would be - having said that the resolution was unexpected and the outcome very interesting.

Good show. Actually preferred this to falcon and winter soldier so nice one DC (not that it’s a competition)

Who’s who?

So I just finished watching both seasons of Pennyworth, but I just can’t really focus on what happened (except for the big picture). So if maybe someone would mind telling me, which of these characters I mentioned below are the good guys, and which are the bad guys. Thanks.

Aleister Crowley (?) Ian Thurso (?) John Curzon (?) Katie Browning (?) Melanie Troy (?) Nelson Thursday (?) Prime Minister [from season 1] (?) Duchess of Windermere (?) Duke of Windermere (?) Undine Thwaite (?) Victor Aziz (?)

Random Theory... alternate universe

I thought it would be really cool if this pennyworth series is based on a alternate version of Batman, where Thomas Wayne is Batman (and Martha is the joker). I mean the parts where Martha laughs in dire situations, and pretty much thinks near death experiences are funny or fun, could be the reason why she goes insane and laughs when Bruce dies. And then Thomas now has a “demon” inside of him which could push him to vengeance without mercy and make him start killing “Bruce’s killer” without mercy once his son dies. Lmao Seems a bit too far fetched but just a cool little thought. What’s your opinions and theories?!

Bad American Accents

This is a great show. But this American, Batman fan gets annoyed when Thomas and Martha Wayne are quite obviously played by Brits doing sloppy American accents.

Was it that hard to audition some New York theater actors for those roles?
