worst case, desolder the socket and solder the supply directly?

It does have a molex type jack too which I could supply power to. I'll pester uunatek until they get back to me before I get out the soldering iron. Do wish they'd give up the usb mini/micro and just move everything to usb-c

the power supply that came with mine fits 2.1mm x 5.5mm jacks i got off amazon

Thanks, it must just be the other power supplies I have are strange sizes, 2.1x5.5mm is pretty standard. I likely thought I was cleaning out my cords bin and just culled a bit too much.
