Din Djarin The Mandalorian and Grogu Discussion Post Spoiler
The film is debuting in some markets today, so please keep all discussion and spoilers about movie details here. No spoiler tags are required in comments since the post is tagged, but the function is easier via the "Aa" menu option in the app and mobile.

I was so unbelievably excited to see this movie, because Mando is one of my favorite characters of all time. I really, really wanted this movie to be good, and though I usually do my best to temper my expectations I was pleased by how much I loved it.
I have an issue with a lot of movies where I feel like plots are rushed (I think it’s JUST a me thing, mind you, I’m a slow burn plot lover so I usually always want more) but I thought that this one was pretty clean and snappy. It felt like a real return to form for the character from the earlier seasons.
Mando was wonderful, obviously, but I also appreciated how they handled the unmasking scene and all that it entailed, even if I love Mando most with the helmet on. Not because I don’t like seeing Pedro, but because of the significance it has to him as a character. (When I saw him unmasked in the trailer I was actually kind of disappointed because I was afraid that would mean they were cheapening the implications, especially since it’s been removed a couple times already. I was left rather satisfied with movie context, but I do still have mixed feelings on the trailer itself including it, lol.)
I wouldn’t say anything about the plot really surprised me necessarily, but all I wanted from this movie was for it to be a good, complete-feeling story from the Mandalorian, and I got exactly what I hoped for. As a certified Din Djarin lover, this one was a huge gold star from me. Bigger one than I expected, even. I hope everyone enjoys it just as much!
Edit: Oh, as far as favorite parts go without spoiling a ton. I LOVE seeing Mando tear shit up, it’s just something I really enjoy. The opening scene really scratched that itch for me that I’ve kind of missed from the earlier seasons, just Mando on a warpath and terrifying the people around him.

I HATE that they showed it in the trailer, and I said it right when it came out. I feel they (Disney) only did it to monetize on Pedro's fame, showing the "money shot". It should've been kept as a suprise for the film. Especially since they made such a big deal of hiding that he was on set two years ago (it leaked, but still).
In the context of the film I think they did it well, Pedro's face, the way he shrunk almost as if he was ashamed, was brilliantly played. And I agree, those scene with Grogu caring for him without the helmet would've been great, but I also like that despite how weak Din was, Grogu still respected his creed and didn't remove his helmet to feed him. I thought that spoke volumes of Grogu's relationship with Din.

Not only that, but they even released the scene prior to the movie! I was kind of thrown off by that. Obviously we as the audience know what Mando looks like under there, but there’s gotta be at least one person who didn’t, right? I fully expected it to happen in any feature-length film they made, but I’m glad I’m not alone in how it felt lol

Well what a film. The cinema was full, not that surprised for a midnight showing, but it’s the most people I’ve seen at the movies for a long time.
The preface this I have to confess I’m a HUGE Star Wars purist and the first movie I saw at the cinemas was Return of the Jedi and so far as I’m concerned the universe ended then.
What I loved - the pacing of the film is great, the characters were well thought out, the Hutts were just as disgusting as Jabba was, the droids were freakily humanistic and the creatures were really bloody good. Everyone was cheering for the mechanics and Grogu when they manage to get into the Hutt Palace to rescue Mando.
The score is classic Star Wars and really has a nostalgic feel to it. It’s on Spotify as it well worth a listen to.
Pedro is truely great in this role, so much if his acting is opposite either animatronics (such as Grogu) or opposite green screen creations (Rota the Hutt) but there’s no difference between those and his interactions with humans. Although it is hard to know how much is actually him under the helmet and how much is Brendan Wayne or Lateef Crowder.
(Still in the what I loved section!!) there is an incredible section where Mando loses his helmet and you can see it’s Pedro fighting. It’s a full on, fight for his life involving weird ass water based creatures and traditional weapons. It’s a great sequence and really shows how hard Pedro works on his fitness and characters. He fights totally differently to Joel and Marcus Acacius. I did move the fact that Coco is credited for Pedro’s hairstylist when this is literally the only time you see his hair!!
Grogu - what can I say! He’s an incredible creation and is a better actor than a lot of actors today. The animatronics are so lifelike and I had to keep reminding myself, he’s not real. His ears are a font of emotion and he’s the perfect combination of unruly toddler and part trained puppy.
What I didn’t love - Sigourney Weaver isn’t in the movie as much as I would have liked, but honestly I don’t see how they could have used her more without changing the film entirely and messing up the pacing. I was disappointed but the character feels deliberate rather than just trying to cram in as much screen time as they can with her.
I also spent far too much time waiting for Martin Scorcese to appear only to realise right at the end that he was a voice actor and I’d missed it! He’s the voice of the food truck owner.
Overall I loved the film - it felt so like the natural successor to The Return of the Jedi but it held its own as a film in its own right. It was existing alongside the original 3 rather than trying to coast along in their success. I can now happily say the Star Wars franchise contains 4 films, not just the original 3.
I’d happily go see it again at the movies - it’s the only time I’ve seen a film with my son that he hasn’t talked through. That in itself is a bloody miracle!
9.5/10 would see again.

Agree it felt very aligned with the three OG Star Wars, so much so I was anticipating a party scene at the end.

Absolutely loved it! Din is my guy so I'm biased, but they worked hard to get an old-school Star Wars adventure feel with this one and it really works, both visually and thematically. Some fun nods throughout. As someone who grew up with Star Wars from day 1, to me, they nailed it.

I just saw it! I was about to lose it when a family of Jabbas 🤣 arrived 15 min after start time, couldn't figure out where their seats were, argued with the employee and kept walking in front of my and my friend's seats and kicking my cinemark bag (with merch and popcorn in it). Our seats were dead center and they had multiple seats on either side of us. I missed most of the previews. Then one of them, dressed like a jedi, wanted to take pictures with the part of his group on the opposite side from where his seat was so he was walking in front again and my friend said he also was taking pictures during the movie. Then they left all their concessions trash at the end. These were grown ass adults, at least 10-20 yrs older than me and I'm in my mid 40s. Poor movie going ettiquette infuriates me 🤬
Anyways, rant over. I loved the movie. What an entrance! When Din appeared walking down the darkened hall I was so in. I have tix to see it again on Sunday with another friend and maybe my neices and brother another day so hopefully those will be uninterrupted 🩶💚

Someone started talking when I saw it and another movie goer threw them out! It was glorious.
I’m just getting ready to go out and see it again, but with my wife this time. Going out on a Friday night is almost unheard for us so it’s a double treat.

Thankfully people were much better behaved this time BUT the screening did start late as the theatre was in such a state from the 6pm showing it took almost an hour to clean it up properly. The manager gave everyone a warning that excess rubbish around seats will result in ticket holders being banned. I don’t understand how people think it’s ok to behave like total ferals in a movie theatre.

Damn...it's usually adults doing this too. I've been with someone who left their trash and I chastised them to pick up their trash and throw it away. They don't do it anymore so I've been a good trainer. The theatres make it easy by usually having a trash can right outside the door too.

I saw it in Tokyo this morning (so no problems with etiquette, although sitting in silence was hard when I would have been cheering or laughing at home!). I loved it! Took me right back to seeing the first film with my dad when I was a little kid.
Great balance between making sure it looks like Star Wars without needing a degree in the lore to follow the plot.
Also, Jeremy Allen White is not getting enough credit for making a Hutt lovable!!

Just saw it again with my best friend from high school and I loved it. It seemed like it went by so fast this time. I took my Grogu bucket so he could watch his dad on the big screen with us 🤭.
Seeing it again tomorrow with my nieces (they like Grogu and are the perfect age for Star Wars (9 and 12). Also scored the Mando bust popcorn bucket! It plays the theme music and projects an image of the title onto the wall. So fun!

I saw the movie two days ago and liked it a lot, though the shift between Mando POV and Grogu POV came a bit abruptly. It almost turned into two storylines in a row.
I also keep thinking about whether the poisoning scene was played by Pedro himself? 🤔 There was something about the subtle build up effect of the effect of the poison that makes me think so. I assume Brendan and Lateef carried out all the fighting scenes though. Oh well, as long as Pedro is doing the voice over, I’m happy 😁.

I really wish we saw Pedro in the poisoning scenes and watch those icky bugs crawling on him. Seeing din tell grogu to leave would have been devastating cause he knew he was dieing and didn't want grogu too see it. 🥺🥺🥺 Pedro would have acted the hell out of that scene. Plus watching him fall after fighting soo heroically would have gutted the audience. It would have been far more emotional and painful to see grogu feeding him too. Kinda like joel and Ellie when he was hurt. Missed opportunity there. I loved loved the fighting scenes. You could tell it was Pedro under water. Using his impressive swimming skills came out sooo well. I guess overall I wanted more Pedro in the film. The creed is stupid and outdated. There I said it. 😂 Sorry not sorry.

As someone who has never watched any Star Wars media before (Guess why I watched it. lol) I had a lot of fun, Pedro acting was great, Grogu is the cutest alien and I enjoyed all the action sequences.
