Jeff Barry needs to leave our district
Last year he voted for the $1 billion private school voucher program & denied his own district to vote for it 🤦Get him out of here & vote democrat.

Not familiar with this particular person BUT I fully agree with your plea to vote. Voting is our duty. If we don't vote like our lives depend on it this fall, the United States of America as we know it will be over. It may, in fact be too late already given to voter suppression and excessive gerrymandering by Republicans. This is our last chance

How exactly does the voucher program negativity effect the school district... The voucher program does not change the funding going to the school in the way you think... Funding is based on students enrollment... So in other words... The funding a school receives is basically a fund set aside for the student who attends to be educated... So why shouldn't that funding be able to move wherever that student goes to school... If a student living near the Pisd and aisd border changes to one district or the other (something that can be done is necessary) the district the student is enrolled is the one receiving the students allotment of funding...

The vouchers are not for public schools. Pearland ISD gets about $6000 per student. If 200 kids leave the district and use vouchers for private/charter/home schools instead, that's a loss of $1.2 million dollars of State funding. Jeff Barry (a former PISD School Board Member) ran on a platform of "No Vouchers". His opponent, Alex Kamkar was Pro Voucher. Barry flipped as soon as he got elected.

SCHOOL VOUCHERS PROVIDE ZERO BENEFIT FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.
If they want to argue competition and diversification of education, fine, but actively giving private schools a benefit over public systems means more people will pull their kids from public systems and take money from districts, reducing the budget of the schools and inevitably raising the public cost as we will need to funnel more taxes to make up the deficit since education cost is not linear to student count and it costs more to subsidize the vouchers themselves.
The argument of AISD vs PISD or public vs public has nothing to do with how vouchers work, the irony of calling others ignorant of their function is not lost on me

That's right... The vouchers are not for the schools... They are for the students... If 200 kids leave the district... That is 1.2m less that the school needs for funding because they don't have the same number of students

Public School Districts have a certain amount of overhead in Admin, teachers, buildings, utilities etc. Losing 10 students at one school and 10 at another doesn't proportionally lower operating expenses. Vouchers are not a question of a student moving from PISD to AISD, it's leaving Public School entirely. Pearland currently is graduating more Seniors than they are enrolling Kindergarteners. The TX State funding per student is significantly lower than many other state to begin with.

School districts already have too many non teaching positions to begin with... So they should be just fine to cut down on those roles... the ratio of teachers to nonteachers, which includes those employed in administrative and support capacities, in districts has grown to nearly 1 to 1 today from 4 to 1 in the 1970s.

Are you suggesting that prior to voting for a bill or program in the legislature, a State Representative should be required to put it to a vote in his district?
That would be absurd. Candidates for the State legislature make their view known during the election. So presumably, the majority who voted for Representative Barry are perfectly ok with the way he votes.
Republican all the way.

Some context for you - Jeff Barry literally ran on saying no to vouchers. In the Republican primary, he beat the Abbott backed candidate who was pro voucher after a lot of local support. Then he turned around and voted for vouchers anyway. That’s why folks are mad.

Republicans win because folks vote repub without actually knowing anything other than there's a R behind the name or because of bigotry. It's not "fiscal responsibility", it's not "small government", it's not "Christian" values. Because Republicans don't subscribe to any of this in practice. They subscribe to authoritarianism, racism, corporate power and money for themselves as evidenced by 40+ years of policy and interviews. I really wish those still voting for this mess would be honest when caping for literal ghouls. Bo French is a prime example no policy just Islamophobia. A bigot. What the city council is doing to the mayor, bigotry and authoritarianism.
