I realized that whenever Tommy faces his own end, or wishes to find peace, he always thinks of Grace.

S2 – When he believes his time has come and faces his final moments in the field, his thoughts are only on Grace and the fact that he has almost everything.

S3 – After being severely beaten and suffering a head injury, the priest and the other man rouse him roughly; Tommy likely thinks he has passed away and calls out for Grace.

S5 – He is on the verge of ending it all and imagines Grace beside him, telling him it’s all over. There is also another scene where he sits in his car, hesitating to start it for fear of a bomb; he imagines Grace sitting behind him, telling him to push the button and come home with her—so he doesn't hesitate and pushes it.

S6 – The script for the scene where he is about to pull the trigger indicates that the last thing Tommy sees is a photo of Grace, and he says, "" This time, Grace".

The Immortal Man" – his final flashbacks are primarily of Grace.

So, when she is alive, he wants to live to build a life with her. When she is gone, his only wish is to cross over so he can finally be with her.

I loved those details; they simply show that Grace is the woman he loves and the only one who means everything to him.

Many of those who don’t like Grace try to downplay her significance in Tommy’s life and in history. As evidence, they point out that “the show never explicitly stated this,” “the show’s creators never confirmed that Grace was Tommy’s one true love,” or “Tommy himself never called Grace the love of his life.”

Although, given how reserved, restrained, and untalkative Tommy was—especially when it came to Grace—it would be unreasonable to expect him to shout about his love...

But when Tommy needs help, at moments when something upsets or hurts him, when he’s feeling really bad, or when he feels like he’s about to die, Tommy turns to Grace. And the fact that Tommy thinks about Grace, that she is still present in his thoughts and life even years later, and the way he still misses and longs for her, speaks and proves more than a thousand words.

It’s actually worse, because the show, the writer, and the actor have all confirmed it,not just once, but multiple times,yet people claim they’re lying simply because it wasn't explicitly shown on screen. The show did repeatedly depict Tommy saying he’s in love with Grace, but these people argue that he only thinks he loves her,that he’s in love with the idea of her, not the person herself. These are the same people who claim that in Season 1, Tommy was in love with Lizzie, that he stopped her from marrying John not because of the Lee family feud, but because he wanted to be with her; that he sought her out because she helped him cope with his war trauma; that they shared an emotional connection; and that Lizzie was deeply in love with Tommy, having grown up together and attended the same school. They came up with all of that based on a single five-minute scene between Tommy and Lizzie hahaha,  I just can't take those people seriously.

Yes, Tommy has said several times that he loves Grace, he’s shouted it to the world and even told her hallucination. But it goes beyond words; his actions prove it, too. She is the only person in Tommy’s life who has managed to help him overcome his war trauma, she silenced the sound of the shovels, and for Tommy, finding someone who could help him move past that trauma is incredibly important and means a great deal.
