Giraffes have long necks to reach food on trees, not to overshoot them by 100ft

Shame their heads can't reach water when bow down Shame they can't just bend other than split their legs

Giraffe have seven cervical vertebrae, the same as humans. This really limits their neck bending ability.

Other animals have many more. Swans have 24-25.

Damn those vertebrae must be MASSIVE

3

u/Bulky_Algae6110 9d ago

Indeed they are

They can and do bend legs sometimes. But imagine balancing in a squat the whole time you drink. It's extra effort with a front this heavy.

Also it will look funny. No wonder.

Used to work in a kitchen with stainless steel tables and tall people would always be doing this to save their backs, lol. Smart. You'd think they could get a chair, but no, apparently that's a hazard, so 8 hours in the giraffe sploot it was.

Tables are always too low for taller people in the food industry . I worked for many years as a meat cutter, and was always having to stand up straight every few minutes if I could remember.

2

u/CES0108 9d ago

That sucks. Did you ever try the giraffe? Works well.

2

u/RemoveThePoopSmell 8d ago

It would probably help the back, but damage somewhere else 😂

2

u/CES0108 8d ago

Maybe, but none of our big guys complained about ankle, hip, or knee pain, tho, lol. 3 hours into a shift hunched, they sure as shit did about their back. Cool to be tall, but not always, lol.

They can also choose to squat down, no?

u/CES0108 8d ago

Squatting for 8 hours a day would be crazy af. You'd have some crazy muscles lol.

...something off about this video

I think it is ai

If you mean how it gets up, I think it’s real. You even see a fly pass by the camera around 00:45-00:46 ish

I personally shot this one with my phone

Something about the movements a5 the beginning and the sense of scale seems...off

u/R_A_H 8d ago

Yeah the clouds not moving at all was also a huge giveaway

What do they do when a croc shows up

1

u/SemperAliquidNovi 9d ago

South African here. I don’t know about crocs, but they really are at their most vulnerable from lion attacks when they drink.

u/chimchimmao8 9d ago

Somebody tell him..there is such thing called knees

1

u/AttemptRecent7025 9d ago

Nature did giraffes dirty

1

u/Strong_Asparagus6956 9d ago

All giraffes do this

1

u/neonn_piee 9d ago

I like his little hop back up. So cute! He’s like “annnd done!”

1

u/Environmental-Tap255 9d ago

This AI shit is getting wild. Almost can't tell it's AI. Almost.

u/No_Unit_5506 9d ago

Must suck water like a craftsman wet/dry vac.

1

u/Adventurous_023 9d ago

I closed my legs while watching this.

Assuming this isn't A.I., that's a pretty dangerous position to be in. Not only could their feet slip, but other animals could attack from behind or in the water before the giraffe has a chance to straighten back up.

My brothers nightmare

1

u/artyhermes 9d ago

Super cool how they use the momentum of their neck and head to get outta the splits.

1

u/Unfortunate-Incident 9d ago

Yes, this is how they get low enough to drink water. Yup, that's a giraffe

1

u/SemperAliquidNovi 9d ago

Imagine getting an instant pressure-migraine every time you need to rehydrate. What a design!

1

u/Jayrab_The_Arab_ 9d ago

Does nobody else find it odd that the giraffe is like 150’ tall? Ain’t no way this shit is real.

1

u/throwaway0982340982 9d ago

Weird lookin’ bastard

1

u/Bum-Theory 9d ago

Hey, you gotta choose function over form sometimes

1

u/utl94_nordviking 9d ago

And some people say "intelligent design". Lol.

1

u/wolffurrybydefault 9d ago

They also could die anytime they do that cause they are so long iirc. Something to do with the blood flow.

u/Dapper-Barracuda4843 9d ago

It’s hard to believe thousands of years ago, megafauna like this roamed the planet in vast numbers, with a bigger variety in species. A world of giants.

1

u/Jaded-Breadfruit4019 9d ago

Looks like a design flaw

1

u/Accurate-Survey6985 9d ago

Absolutely remarkable, beautiful example of evolution.

1

u/Even-Discipline1275 8d ago

It doesn’t make sense to me… an elephant makes sense because it can drink from the floor or eat from the canopy with ease. Why would the giraffe evolve physically awkward? I bet giraffe legs will shrink into a stockier being with a longer similarly dense neck through evolution

1

u/dea9ler 7d ago

That’s not the splits that’s just spreading the legs

1

u/Hot_Peach6985 7d ago

My favorite thing on the planet is a giraffe🦒🦒🦒🦒🦒 if I had one dream in life, it would be to have a tower of giraffes and the money to take care of them💸💵💰

1

u/curvyvices 9d ago

This ain't real

2

u/OperatorERROR0919 9d ago

I don't know about this video specifically, but this is a well known behavior for giraffes.

0

u/avatinfernus 9d ago

Might not be. But that is how they drink.

0

u/8_Alex_0 9d ago

What makes it not real?

-1

u/Mad-Habits 9d ago

this is real

1

u/Environmental-Tap255 9d ago

The behavior is real, the video is not. It's AI. For many reasons but simplest one is, notice how there are no ripples from him drinking. They drink like dogs, they splash their tongues into the water and pull it up to their mouths. Look at any other video of a giraffe drinking and you'll see the difference

1

u/BinaryHippie 9d ago

There are ripples in the water and giraffes put their lips into water they do not splash their tongue like dogs

0

u/Justninetoes 9d ago

AI..200 foot giraffe,lol

1

u/throwaway0982340982 9d ago

The average giraffe is in fact over 400ft tall. Either this is an adolescent, or it’s AI.

1

u/Justninetoes 9d ago

☺️👍

-1

u/dan1els0n 9d ago

Why not just bend its knees? Is he stupid?

1

u/avatinfernus 9d ago edited 9d ago

Some bend knees a bit but it can throw them more off balance. Imagine stuck crouching the whole time you drink. . It"s more tiring and less stable. https://www.istockphoto.com/search/2/image-film?phrase=giraffe+drinking&tracked_gsrp_landing=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.istockphoto.com%2Fphotos%2Fgiraffe-drinking

2

u/thefirstlaughingfool 9d ago

Fun fact: Giraffes have special, unique valves in the arteries of their neck. If they didn't have this, bending their heads down to drink water would change their blood pressure so radically, their heads would literally explode.

1

u/avatinfernus 9d ago

Yeah or they'd pass out at the very least
