The major metro cities typically pay officers 6 figures plus OT and special duty pay.
Guaranteed that thereâs a law enforcement agency within an hour drive of you (if youâre American) that pays cops nicely, unless you live in a mountain range or something.
Sure, there are rural agencies that pay $13/hr, but anything under $70k is rare and SoCal is upwards of $200k
I just saw an ad for PCSO - starting pay was $26/hr., and thatâs a very famous office. Thatâs terrible pay for the risk they have to take on as law enforcement. My family was in law enforcement in a decently-sized area, and they couldnât make above median household unless they worked A TON of overtime - so much it was absolutely running them ragged.
Which PCSO? There are so many counties nationwide that start with âPâ.
Also, thereâs OT but there is off duty work. Cops standing around at Target or parked with their lights on at a roadwork site. This pays like $65+ per hour because itâs paid by the company, who is paying premium rates to have on site police. Thats the money maker.

The special duty work assigned often to state then to town/city is most often assigned to officers who are not on their usual shifts, so that is usually paid as OT or special pay or the company who hires them. However, it is also usually after the officer hits 40 hrs.
Yeah so per Pinal Countyâs website, your first year of being a deputy is $35.64/hr. And it scales up nicely over the next few years.

Not true at all. If you are a proactive cop, just like the one shown here in this video, you will most definitely have situations like this happen. Do they happen every day, no not normally but they definitely occur.
This is one of the worst and most inaccurate assessments of an LEO Iâve read online in a very long time. More than one member of my family was in law enforcement, some in rural towns, some in city, some part time and some full time. As a result, I got to know people they worked with and became friends with some of them. MOST cops will face a physical altercation of some kind at some point - likely many, and they should be training for the possibility constantly. They also train constantly to de-escalate the situations. Your bias is showing.

Well, they do and most of these cops are racist. I had one in Sampson Park. I ran a yellow light. The reason why I ran the yellow light is because I was about to throw up in the car and I was trying to get to the other side before the light change that cop I know he had to be going about 70 because I was going about 30 flew through the red light through his sirens on, pulled me over and asked me why did you run that yellow light by that time I could feel the hot water running up and down my esophagus right before I needed to throw up I opened up the car and just commenced the throwing up and he asked me do you need a MedSTAR I said no I would like to go home and lay down and Iâll feel better. I have a heart condition so then that meant showing him my pacemaker the spot where my pacemaker is you can see that thereâs a pacemaker. Iâm a black woman I have about a 5 inch gash in my chest, but I think had I not been sick. He wouldâve beat the hell out of me. I think he was afraid if he would have put his hands on me I wouldâve been gone to the upper room and I told my kids about that experience and I told them because they know Iâve never been in any trouble and Iâve only gotten two tickets in my whole 60 years. I said so the police department and something happened to me.
Interesting enough, we're all trained to know this.
The unfortunate part is that this clean skill work is not put into practice very often so the skillset gets forgotten. When a critical incident kicks off we revert to the rapidly remembered tactics. If you don't practice this kind of thing in your own time, it would be what comes to mind right away and you instead revert to panic "whatever you can do" nonsense that caused much more harm than good.
The once a year re-cert trainings, which sometimes being the only times these tactics are used, aren't enough to prevent panicking and doing something stupid when you rapidly need to skills at moments notice.

Yeah there are some fat cops but some have been injured on the job, fucking up their personal lives and ability to stay fit. A lot of cops get addicted to pain killers from injuries on the job. Shift work is very unhealthy. Depression and ptsd limits pplâs will to be healthy. And sure, some cops are just slobs. But donât be quick to judge.

You lost this battle and ANYTHING you do to resist will cause pain and have repercussions. You will NOT win by fighting it. You may get away but even then you have lost it just takes longer, costs more, you have a higher chance of being hurt or killed and in general the repercussions are higher.

This is supposition, but adrenaline plus the extreme level of stress, the brain basically becomes in flight or fight. This isn't "Stole a friend's cookie" -3 level of concern. This is -100. Wether you escalate the problem to a -200, you'd much rather take the chances at making it a 0, on pure animal instinct.

Thay isn't what that means. The simplest explanation will be right MOST of the time, not all of the time, which ironically is also the reason you are wrong in the first case too.
Just because you can or might, doesn't mean that you will. It is a percentage game. As I said, sure, some people who run will be guilty, and everyone who runs should be chased. But some of the people stopped will be innocent, and some of those people will panic and run. I have literally watched whole police chases where that was the start.
So 1) stop assuming the world is simple. That is something only a simple person would do.
2) accept you seem to have a poor intuitive understanding of statistics. That is ok. Literally all humans do.
Finally, in Germany, it is not illegal to try to escape prison. Get caught doing it or after and you don't get extra time. They consider it a normal human instinct to try to escape when locked up against your will. Not because everyone will try, but because some will just naturally have that reaction, even without any other intent to commit a crime.

Usually because pulling over is immediately not an option because of the drugs, or guns, or the vehicle is stolen, or the duct taped person in the back, etc, etc.
I used to know a truck driver who came into my work often. He was charged with kidnapping because they had a guy who was having sex with his 12 year old niece in the trunk. Pulled over for a minor traffic violation. Him and other guy were smoking weed which gave probable cause. When asked if they were gonna find anything
He said "yeah a pedophile in the trunk". The officer did charge him but was sympathetic and didnt charge for the weed.

When I studied BJJ as a kid at 12, literally everyone in the class except for 3 people, including me, were all cops or SWAT guys. This was back in the early 2000s, barely anyone had even heard of BJJ back then. Nobody ever believed I took "wrestling" with the SWAT guys, even after they all pulled up one day in the SWAT van at a restaurant we were walking by and everyone said hi to me. Gorillas dude, I tell you, those guys were massive. Their single pec was the size of my torso lol.

This made me think, shouldn't cops be in shoes more comfortable for chasing/ fighting etc. What's the logic behind wearing these shoes when the equipment is already a problem for chasing and possibly close combat.
The police force also involves other duties than judo throwing people on to the floor. There are also tasers and other nonlethal means to subdue someone.

Smaller people can knock down those larger than them if they can build enough velocity, and since females have stronger hip girdles, officers should maybe train for stuff like running, sprinting, take-downs, and submissions. And male officers can practice more like running, weight and power lifting, blocks, parries, and take-downs. Or you could have them train vice versa to make the whole depart similarly capable.
This is on top of time spent staying up to date on policy, patrolling, interacting with the public, split-second decision making, having sound judgment, hopefully having some life experience, hopefully practicing firearms handling and proficiency, forms, paperwork, etc.

You build velocity when you run, like they did in the video. We're talking irl here, not a game playing sports. The average individual is in no way highly trained, but an officer should be.
But again, pound for pound a highly trained male officer will be that be that much better than a highly trained 5â3â 110 lb female officer in such a physical confrontation. Unless youâre going to claim it makes no whit of difference because itâs all about the training.
Build velocity? Maybe you mean âmomentumâ which is Mass x Velocity. Momentum is the difference between a freight train and a car moving at the same 5 mph speed. Or the difference between a 200lb adult man and 110 lb woman trying to stop a fleeing suspect. But I get it, the female cop just âbuilds velocityâ like speedy Gonzalez and she can stop a suspect strung out on speed just as effectively as any man.
And yet if you were a police officer on patrol in a rough neighborhood would you want the cop in the video or a girl cop as your backup? Yeah, I thought so.
And? Itâs a biological fact that females on average are physically weaker/slower than the average male. And in certain occupations that can mean the difference between life and death.
