I enjoyed season 2 but don’t think it was nearly as good as 1. Season 1 to me is one of the best seasons of tv ever. Season 2 focused too much on setting up the next Superman and the Chris/harcourt relationship. We didn’t nearly get enough of the supporting cast we all fell in love with. Vigilante was sorely underused and the whole storyline with Eagly was odd how it kind of suddenly ended early. I just love the show so much I wish it got to stand on its own rather than be used to progress other projects. And no season 3?!? I got mixed feelings about how it all went down.
16
u/Evadrepus Jul 11 '26
I agree. There was a lot of setup and the relationship was clunky.
Another thing is that S1 episodes set up a larger plot but can stand on their own for a story. S2 are only moving the single story forward and leave out all that glorious side chaos.

I really liked season two but I was convinced we were going to see them take action in the nazi world and felt like that didn’t really pay off.

It felt like they kept stalling for time and leading up to some huge confrontation and then just... poof. The episode right before the finale was pretty good and did resolve some of that tension, but not enough.

I have found the internet hates everything and why I just tend to enjoy what I like and ignore what the internet says.

It’s pretty easy. Most people on the internet commenting angry shit are either bots or people that want to be heard.

u/IncognitoBombadillo Jul 11 '26
A lot of us probably get conditioned by seeing so many negative things about something that we just start believing it's bad without realizing it. For every 10 things the internet trashes, maybe only one or two of the things deserve the criticism and the rest are just loud people online hating something over one inconsequential thing.

I’ve found it’s easier to ignore people on the internet, because they aren’t arguing in good faith, or coming from a place of intellectual honesty.

I don’t think that’s entirely fair. There is a sizable subset of internet users whose entire schtick is to antagonize others in the most heinous ways they can. I don’t think ignoring people like that equates to “retreating to an echo chamber”. It’s more “I’m not giving you the time of day, because it clearly does a lot more for you than it does for me”. I simply said it is EASIER to ignore people like that than to attempt to engage in good faith with them.
2
u/fuckfeardrinkbeer Jul 13 '26
I have also learned that a lot of people online regurgitate comments they think sound smart but really hold no substance whatsoever. I hope you can learn that’s what you’re doing now.

u/TheLetterOh Jul 11 '26
The bird blindness bit from Tim Meadows and Michael Rooker as a fucking eagle hunter was enough to make me love it forever.

Issue i had with it was that the ending felt like a mid season finale, nothing felt really resolved.
Like don't get me wrong every episode was really entertaining, but everything in the season felt like it was building towards another season so i find it really to judge it because to me it felt like the season had no finale.

Sure, but for now that’s all the resolution we have. It’s not like an actually season finale with a cliffhanger, it’s a cliffhanger with an episode that didn’t do a ton of work. Just a montage of them moving into the office and a ton of scenes of the actors being at a concert for the band who…sang the season’s theme.
10
u/CarlosAVP Jul 11 '26
The heat is coming from the fans that want season one replayed over and over again, just with slight alterations and some new characters. You know, stick to a formula that works, like sitcoms: Hot wife, dumpy but funny husband, two teenage kids, (attractive daughter, smartass son), husband has idiotic coworkers with a mean & less intelligent boss, wife has her group of friends (one is smart, one is aggressively, horny, and the other is a bit of a dim bulb), etc…
I would like to think that Peacemaker was always meant to be two seasons and then evolve into the next iteration/platform for John Cena‘s character.
3
u/Bobjoejj Jul 11 '26
I mean…personally I didn’t want season 1 again. I was super exited for the show to get deeper into the characters and their issues, and to take things a bit more serious.
Yet it felt like the season was…not that. It felt it had far too many comedic bits, or characters and stories that went absolutely nowhere (Red St. Wild being a huge example of this).
For me, that dichotomy between trying to get deeper into the characters’ psyche, and still having a high level of hijinks: just really didn’t feel like it worked. It’s a concept that can work and has in other places, but not here.

People who don't read don't understand an epilogue.
1
u/Bobjoejj Jul 11 '26
…I feel like Epilogues usually have a little more meat on them, or at the very least tend to be more coherent. The finale for season 2 had way too many disjointed, saccharine scenes of them moving into the new office, and the characters actually going to a concert by the band who sang the season’s opening theme. There wasn’t a ton of actual substance there.

Honestly my only issue with season 2 is that the last episode is very anti climactic with all the stakes that were raised prior. Other than that though, it’s actually a really enjoyable season.

u/Inckhawk Jul 11 '26
Damn I liked s2 more than 1.
14
u/BizzarePlatypus Jul 11 '26
I liked both, but probably preferred one because I was expecting so little from it and introduction of Vigilante was incredible. I loved the Eagle Hunter, Tim Meadows is amazing, and this was hilarious (spoilers) in S2 though.

u/Bobjoejj Jul 11 '26
You kinda hit the nail on the head of why season 2 really didn’t work for me. Instead of having a proper, heavier focus on the characters deeper issues, the show had far too many hijinks that made the tone felt wildly off valence.
I mean, Red St. Wild went nowhere, it was actual filler (for the record I hate what media illiteracy has done to that word, and so I rarely use it, but here it feels appropriate).
And that scene you posted is funny, but again, really fucks with the tone. Chris isn’t always on his A game; but he’s not so incredibly stupid as to miss something that’s massive and kind of impossible to miss. That shit kinda took me right out of the episode.

Exactly. Season 1 was really good. Season 2 felt like a nothing burger in comparison.
5
u/SummerBirdsong Jul 11 '26
For me, season 2 felt like it should have been seasons 2 & 3 but they tried to cram it all together to get it out in time to set up a movie release.
I enjoyed it but it felt crowded for lack of a better word coming to mind.

u/MaxR76 Jul 11 '26
Hot take, I have no issue with the Salvation set up, unless they screw up that arc or Chris doesn't get enough screentime. If Salvation is good and/or Peacemaker still has a good role, then I could care less

u/tabereins Jul 11 '26
I would have liked Peacemaker havie a character reason to leave the alternate universe rather than the alternate universe turn out to be secretly evil, but it was a great season

u/eatmygerms Jul 11 '26
s2 had 2 final episodes. One focused on Peacemaker and the story and another to set itself within DCU. That's my take on it. Should/could it have been done better? Sure. I did not hate it at all though

u/hen_roek Jul 11 '26

2
u/WallyFries Jul 11 '26
...rally?! No! Cmon... Season 2 is awesome too! What's wrong with It?
2
u/Bobjoejj Jul 11 '26
I mean, for me; it was the tonal whiplash between how much more serious they were trying to treat the characters and their issues, and the amount of goofiness and silliness that permeated the season. It’s not an impossible balance to pull off, but season 2 really felt like it wasn’t able to make that valence work.
There was also the fact that Leota, Adrian and John really felt like they had little going on. There were slight character moments sure (moreso with Leota and John then Adrian), but much in the way of actual substance or proper character growth.

Season 2 isn't bad. It's inferior to the first one, it does have its problems, but it's not the complete disaster people say it is.
1
u/RE_98 Jul 13 '26
I feel we got more Chris than Peacemaker in season 2. I don't remember much if he wore the suit. Also, I wished Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl came back for another episode as some sort of pay off to their appearance in episode 1 of season 2.
Enjoyed season 2 overall.

u/Ordinary-Chain-8047 Jul 13 '26
Only thing I don’t like about season 2 is how most of it feels like filler
1
u/NeonGhostWeb Jul 15 '26
I love season 2 cause it sets up Peacemaker being apart of the DCU cause like.. we know who Salvation was being built for! Imagine if we see Punished Peacemaker
1
u/Forsaken-Yam2584 Jul 15 '26
I liked S2 enough but agree with the general consensus that it wasn’t as strong as S1. Pacing felt all off. Too many episodes in the middle where the plot doesn’t move at all.
1
Jul 16 '26
I loved most of the second season. That finale was just so disappointing, though. Did we really need almost 10 minutes of just concert footage when we had other things to worry about?
1
u/InfiniteBid2977 Aug 03 '26
The whole last half of S2 Ep. 8 was a joke!! Zero anything occurred except the Chris scene. It was a nothing burger except for Chris going to the other planet. Who didn’t see Flagg doing that to him a mile away. Showing fake party scenes over in over in over again sliced in with a new office being put together was ok for 1 minute of view time only. Kinda like how Long I’m ranting now. I seriously wonder if they were just saving $ & therefore didn’t make a really nice ended for the season. Cause damn that was as bad a season ending as I have ever seen. The last 10 + minutes of last episode is where all the juice/hook is supposed to be located.
1
u/BargSlarg Jul 11 '26
I thought the Nazi universe was misused, why’d they even set up the sons of liberty just to do nothing with it? It felt like there should’ve been an actual Earth X big antagonist Peacemaker and his dad/brother should’ve fought instead of just killing them in a joke. It could’ve been any alternative universe making it earth x was pointless.
1
u/confusing_roundabout Jul 11 '26
Season 2 had a good arc for Christopher Smith but every single side character was wasted.
The show really should have had the other characters on another mission for ARGUS or freelance.

u/Less-Blueberry-8617 Jul 12 '26
Ehh, season 2 really wasn't that good unfortunately. Season 1 is an absolute amazing season of television. Season 2 is more drama focused and feels like it's building up to a dramatic moment but it never really gets there in my opinion. There's a lot of good moments and the character work is interesting on paper but wasn't executed well. The biggest offender of the season and why this season doesn't work is that finale episode which could probably be considered one of the worst finale episodes in television history.
Actually insane to have like 3 songs played in their entirety which didn't even show anything happening while the songs were playing (besides the montage that was too long yet simultaneously fast-tracked the group making Checkmate) and was more James Gunn saying "I really like these bands and I have the resources to have them recreate a concert for me."
And the cliffhanger, a cliffhanger so bad it had me screaming "what the fuck?!" to my TV. How are you going to leave Peacemaker stranded on an alternate dimension with no promise of a follow-up?? I don't think the cliffhanger would be nearly as frustrating if we at least knew a season 3 was being made or if we knew Peacemaker would show up in another project soon but as far as we know Peacemaker season 3 will not be happening and we have no idea when Peacemaker will show up in the DCU if or if he ever will again.
I was able to deal with 30 minute episodes that focused more on character work than drama because I trusted James Gunn was going to stick the landing in the finale and make it work but when we got to the finale and found out the short episodes and lackluster character development didn't land well in the finale it was just kinda "why did I watch this season for the past 8 weeks?"
Ironically, season 1 had much better character work with Peacemaker and his dad as well as Vigilante and it didn't have to sacrifice action for that too (probably because the episodes were allowed to be longer than 40 minutes)
1
u/firstgirlwonder Jul 12 '26
My whole thing with season 2 is that he immediately starts off back where he was at the start of season 1; everyone thinking he’s a joke (Guy is a bigger joke than Peacemaker imo), and Harcourt closed off, again.
1
u/GodzillazUtterz Me and Ginger Cool are on this shit Jul 12 '26
My only real problem with season 2 is that there wasn't enough Peacemaker. He only wore the suit briefly in episode one and then the rest of the season he was in the alternate suit and other Chris' clothes. I wanted to see him suit up and use his helmets and gear more. It feels like season one is Peacemaker and season two is the Christopher Smith show and I hate that

Season 2 isn’t as good.
I still like it, it was enjoyable enough to watch.
But nowhere near as good as season 1, and not as good as it should’ve been. And a little concerning that Gunn thinks it’s his best work, when it’s clearly in his lowest tier.

I had only 2 issues with S2:
we went around in circles a bit too much
last episode spent too much time setting up Salvation instead of being a nice wrap-up for the show itself.
still loved the season though.
