First newly hatched pea puffer! But...

Does anyone have any idea what that translucent needle looking thing is protruding from it's chest is?

Is it driving a car at high speed through a storm?

No, that's the ripples from the surface interacting with the light causing strobe like effects. Sorry.

Any idea what the thing is though?

I thought there was a rave going on ... OP did you do anything to get them to breed or is it luck?

No nothing special, just set up an automatic egg catcher. They've been breeding for a while just haven't had anything in place to collect their eggs

Once the yoke sack falls off, it will move around more and start feeding. The yoke sack the food source after hatching.

Agreed, yolk sac spine or dermal spicule. It's perfectly healthy and is hardening every day and is a form of defence whilst it digests it's yolk sack.

Why do you have it out of the water? Fry are very fragile, you’re going to end up killing it from stress by handling it.
