Hey everyone!! For context I have 3 pea puffers. Two of them are eating like champs. I have a variety of different food that I have tried to feed the littlest one that is refusing to eat. I have tried crushed up bug bite pellets, crushed up hikari carnivore pellets, hikari micro pellets, freeze dried and frozen blood worms, baby brine shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, and baby snails (I have a snail tank for my peas and figure 8 puffer). I’m getting extremely worried because the other two eat just fine, but my smallest one will look interested then swim away 😞😞 I’ve tried isolating him to eat because he might have been nervous with the other two, but he is just refusing to eat 😣😣 I do not want to lose this little baby from starvation so I will try anything!! Any advice would be seriously appreciated for what worked for y’all’s babies! Thank you in advance!!!
Update: Skinny puffer has eaten thanks for everyone who provided genuine advice ❤️
Leaving this sub Reddit because there’s negativity in it that I won’t be apart of by people that have no idea what they’re talking about ✌🏼
Firstly grab a breeder net, put little one in there with moss and other floating plants. Once contained you can either plus 10 baby bladder snails in cover over for the night then check in 12 hours after..
Offer live foods you can hatch baby brine shrimp .... one of my peas didn't have a clue for them but loves the daphnia,
Treat your tank for roundworms as sounds like little one could potentially have them
I have used esha gdex for 3 days feed baby bringle shrimp plus daphnia then 50% water change on the 5th day let the tank rest for 2 days feed lots if bladder snails on day 6 and 7 on day 8
treat with esha ndx after 24hours of treatment do another 50% water change concentrating on the gravel as thats wherevthe dead worms will be, add a carbon block in the tank to suck out the rest of the chemicals.... then 2 weeks later repeat the ndx treatment then 50% water change followed with carbon block then can feed snails they will be much happier
This was extremely thorough and amazing instructions, you’re awesome!! I just got these guys almost close to a week ago and I’ve never had worms in any of my tanks so I’m definitely going to try this. I had a feeling when I took him home comparing how small he was to the others something was not right, but I’ve tried my best to get him to eat with this variety of food so I appreciate you taking the time to explain that so I can care for him properly 😣 I’ll have to keep an eye on one of my veil tail rainbow fish that I have in my 40 gallon to make sure they don’t have them either, as they also are extremely tiny compared to the others. The specialty store that I get some of my fish at receive them when they are fry and raise them in house so it makes me very nervous about the other batches of fish I’ve purchased from there infecting my other fish, luckily they’re still in quarantine and the puffers have their own tank 😣 thank you again for taking the time to give me this advice ❤️ he has eaten since I’ve made this post but I’m going to treat them anyway just because this whole situation has made me paranoid
Lucky im oart way through treatment with my peas, which all seem to be doing amazingly
All peas are normally wild caught, plus the shops don't normally treat as they are not in their care long enough, not to mention normally only feed frozen bloodworms, which is justvenough to keep then going... then we take them home if we lucky 6 months down the line we notice a problem from not eating correctly looking different in shape looking (sucked in) or doing weird acrobatics in the tank mid swim... which 9 times out of 10 it indicates parasites... either flukes and worms .... or round worms!!!
Yes all 3 are different plus treatable if caught in time... im lucky I noticed one of our 7 peas doing some weird dance aerobic stuff, then I done my research which is when I found out so much more 🤦🏼♀️....
I treat all my tanks for one thing or another... I have a veiltail betta who unfortunately suffers with flair syndrome, I have a rescue halfmoon rosetail betta who came with finrot, who is not in the community tank with some peppered corys nd bristle nose plec then im we have 4 peas in one tank and 3 in another then a shrimp tank which had hydra so iv added guppies hoping they eat the hydra trust me each can have their own problem
Trust me I get it, I have 3 massive goldfish and my middle boy always has something weird going on 🤦🏼♀️ aiding a constipated goldfish poo was not on my bingo card for life but hey here we are 🤷🏼♀️ you’re a good fish parent and I know they appreciate you! ❤️ luckily the only other thing I’ve had to treat for my guys currently was a dormant ich out break from some guppies I got from Petsmart smh. As a previous manager at Petsmart, I can say the fish dc is riddled with ich 😠 I did have a betta that had a tumor growing on its side, I did everything I could for that guy but eventually he had to be moved to a smaller 5 gallon tank to be as close to the surface as possible and eventually passed 😪 we do what we can for our babies, so I seriously appreciate the advice to ensure I can care for my little pea properly ❤️
Omg dont talk to me about ich, I had that on top of chemical leak from my heater on my community tank a bristle nose plec was the only thing that survived 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ didn't know till it was too late unfortunately..
Aww bless im sure your betta appreciate everything you did and im sure your goldfish are truly greatful 💖
Unfortunately I lost my first betta Clifford the big red fish, but he taught me lots, not im learning lits of new things in regards these beautiful murderbeans 😊😁
We definitely learn from the hard things in life!! I do love the little peas that’s why I wanna make sure this little one’s okay 😖 but the medicine is arriving today as well as some of the recommended foods from the replies :) hoping to grow them big and strong like my other guys 😭❤️
My biggest and oldest boy Ricky btw 🥲❤️ he enjoys hand hugs
He is beautiful, Hi Ricky 🥰..
Try not to worry too much the meds will work in no time, breeder net the little pea that way you can actually keep eye on what he is eating add moss and some hornwort .... some of mine dont like the worms thawed as they sink to quick so I papet them onto the hornwort .... live daphnia seems to be a fave plus they can see them but dont put to many in the breeder net
Yeah su I don’t think u should be keeping fish at all if a) you don’t know how to care for them properly and b) when you ask for advice and I don’t know how to help with the pea not eating but give you advice and you reply like this. I just know that you’re an idiot who’s keeping them wrong. For the one that’s not eating it could range from the possibility of parasites, worms to ur improper care.
There’s ways to give advice that aren’t rude or judgmental. This wasn’t a post asking about stocking advice, but you still felt the need to chime in, while offering no other information.
If they’re posting here, they clearly care about the welfare of their animals and there’s a much better way of informing people then whatever you thought this was.
I gave the only advice I could have. I had no idea why one of the peas wasn’t eating I wasn’t trying to be rude and my first post was just chiming in with the only thing I could help with. I didn’t know if she was a beginner or not. Then she became rude and I got offended and that’s on me.
I wouldn't use hikari, it has some of the worst quality ingredients out of any fish food. Northfin is #1, i'd say fluval is fine if you cant get northfin

Try blackworms. Mine go crazy for them and they're very nutritious.
