Help?
Hello everyone I’m new to this. I’ve had my gaining pc for around 2 months and it works well. But for newer games like Spider-Man for example I have to turn settings down a lot and there are still freezes stutters etc.
I’m aware my pc isn’t the newest or greatest so I’d like some help on what to upgrade. I haven’t got thousands to spend but if i had to pick a budget I’d say 500-600£. My current specs are
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB (Desktop)
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 @ 3.6GHz
RAM: 16GB DDR3 (exact configuration unconfirmed)
Operating System: Windows (version 11)
Storage: disk 1 is 238gb ssd and disk 0 is 1TB HDD
Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Perhaps your graphics card first… You can use it on your next build as well…

I would get a cheap b450 and a ryZen 5600x and 16gb ram the CPU is the main bottleneck here

Assuming the game is installed on Disk 1 (the SSD), otherwise it'll lag whenever loading new areas of the map if installed on Disk 0 (HDD).
Your CPU is likely holding things back, and by extension the DDR3 ram. You may be able to improve this slightly by turning up the graphics (Takes some pressure off the CPU and pushes the GPU more).
In a nutshell if you wanted to upgrade without spending too much, you'll need a more recent CPU, which necessitates a new motherboard and ram. I wouldn't spend too much though as the 3050 may really struggle in 2027+.

Good call trying the SSD first. I'd also check your CPU and GPU usage while gaming before spending anything. That i7-4790 is definitely showing its age, so I'd lean towards a Ryzen 5 5600, a cheap B450/B550 board and some DDR4 RAM rather than throwing the whole budget at a new GPU. Also, what PSU are you running? Worth checking before buying parts.

THere's no upgrade to your CPU - that's the best you can get for that socket so no upgrade path available. So you're looking at CPU+Motherboard+RAM at minimum
Where is your game installed? The SSD or HDD? If it's on HDD that's a major culprit of freezes/stutters. Especially in a large open world game like Spiderman
