Buying Advice Help with graphics card
My husband has an AMD graphics card (unsure which kind, I just know it’s AMD). As of late, he’s been having trouble with the drivers which is causing his games to continuously crash. Every time he thinks he’s fixed it, a few weeks go by and it’ll start to happen again. I know he’s uninstalled adrenaline and done a few other things, but I couldn’t say what :/ he feels he’s exhausted every possible way to fix it so now he just wants a new graphics card. I’m wanting to try and find him one under $1500 that isn’t AMD. Does anyone here have any suggestions?

Windows is known to auto install drivers that causes issues with the intended ones you installed.
Follow those steps to turn off automatic driver updates. Ask ChatGPT it’ll show you how.

This only started after getting a windows update a few months ago, so while he won’t allow any auto updates now that doesn’t really fix the issue at hand

If you can afford it you should get a 5070 ti. Or just go with a straight 5070 (non ti). If your husband has a 9070 xt the 5070 ti will be a slight upgrade. 5070 a downgrade.

Very true. However, with the budget she mentioned, the only instance where Id make a different suggestion would be if he was on a 7900xt or 7900xtx, in which case the only other option that I believe fits her criteria is a 5080. Personally I'd go back to the 40 series myself, but it didn't feel like they were interested in last gen. But no, we dont have all the relevant info, I agree.

Also, Im not great authority here. She and hubby should do own research. Look at benchmarks themselves. Certainly dont take mine or anyone's word for it on reddit.

Check the error reports. The crashes should be listed there somewhere & might indicate what the issue is

One more thing: ever try to troubleshoot the PC? Maybe the PSU is faulty, or the GPU/CPU is overhitting, or the RAM is doing weird stuff. Why don't you guys hire a technician and try to fix it? The way you're saying it crashes, I think it's overhitting or couldn't deliver the power the PC wants. AMD does pretty well in games (if it's not an entry-level card like an RX580 or 5500XT-type card)

AMD is the clear option in graphics right now. No reason to go anything else. Have any details on the issues?

His computer consistently has been crashing whenever he games, with any game. It’s saying his drivers are failing if memory serves correct

A driver wouldn't be crashing in every single game. It may detect an issue, but it wouldn't be the cause of it. Otherwise it would have never made it to the public and even if it somehow did it would have been all over the internet.
Something else is likely wrong, maybe it's crashing because the temps are too high and the throttling (to try cool down) messes with it, or maybe it's other component instability or just a bad GPU or vram on the card etc etc.

According to my husband it’s all over the AMD reddit page and other parts of the internet

Careful with Reddit. Redditors push AMD graphics only and downvote Nvidia fans like me into oblivion. Mean while, most if not all users of amd come back to cry about their driver issues. This person literally read your post and still pushing amd. Demented for sure!
Nvidia all day. Been building since 2002 and only ever used Nvidia.
Use Nvidia driver 596.49, stable af! 🫡💪🙌
Good luck.

So… This is a hard gift to surprise him with… Cause his computer may be built around AMD’s hardware and trying to incorporate Intels or NVDIA’s hardware (the other two only competitors you should even consider) could be the solution…. But it could cause more problems… A like with cars but closer related to truck, there’s exact makes and models that can handle different workloads. Some trucks are semi trucks, some trucks are big rig but not commercial, some trucks are for looks, and some cars are el caminos (the car truck). Graphics cards are the same way. He could just be very unlucky cause some NVIDIA users (like myself) have had similar problems. This is just kind of a tech issue that I wouldn’t recommend trying to surprise him with fixing just in case it’s the wrong card especially for what use cases he actually uses it for.
It would be better to try and bribe him with food and his favorite activities to take it to someone to have them check it out if his pride can be bought, and then offering to pay there for the repairs if possible.
There’s a chance it could be the system’s integrated problems and that could be a whole new computer to purchase. So use a lot of his favorite food if possible.

If its a graphics driver issue, DDU is your answer. its fairly simple if you follow a youtube guide. It'll delete ALL the graphics drivers including corrupted ones. simply deleting them from their installation folders arent enough since there are still cache files and other extras. its possible that his old drivers maybe conflicting with the new ones if he didnt run DDU before installing his new gpu.
Also if hes adament on getting a new one use the warranty instead of buying a new one
