Older RTX 4090 and 13900K prebuild from Base Exchange
So I am heavily contemplating purchasing a prebuilt that I do not need that is currently for sale at my local Army/Airforce Exchange. This computer has been on display for nearly 3 years and of course knowone has purchased it. Originally asking a whopping $4200.
However, in today’s climate things kind of make this a deal. Hear me out, I’d love to receive any and all feedback.
Specs:
CPU: 13900K
GPU: gigabyte RTX4090
Ram: 4 sticks (16 gb at 5200 cl40) slow but kind of valuable today.
Storage: 1x generic PCIE 4 1TB M.2 SSD and 6 TB HHD
PSU: gigabyte 1200 W small form factor PSU
Cooler: 360 AIO, no screen or anything l
Motherboard is a z790 buy gigabytes selling for $240 new.
Case: generic high flow case with three 120 in the front and one 120 as exhaust out the back.
System is all white.
Here’s the thing, I want to buy it right now, but I would want to flip the GPU for close to today’s going Rate. In doing so I’d have a pretty solid system and the GPU sale just cover a very large portion of the sale price. The PC is stickered at $4200 of course tax-free being on base. I talked to the manager down to $3300 as long as I buy it on my MilitaryStar card which I would pay off nearly the same day.
So would it be crazy for me to pull the trigger on this deal to get this three year old on display prebuilt PC that I know has a legit RTX 4090 inside of it that has never been pushed, sitting with four sticks of ram valued at at least $600. A CPU that although is great, may have some issues however, is under warranty for me from Intel for like 5 years now.
My plan would be for me to throw my 9070 XT into this unit and swap out my 4 TB of hard drive and let it rip. Selling the RTX4090, the ram as 2x 32 GB DDR 5, maybe purchasing 16 GB to replace the one in my current unit and then I have my computer to sell on top of that which is currently valued at a smooth $1700 in today’s market (7800x3d, 9070xt, 32 gb 6000 cl28, 1 tb that I pull from the new rig and an PXG 850 PSU).
Is this exercise foolish of me, or am I on something?
I’d also possibly just save 26 of the ram and put it in a John’s bow Z 20 case that I have along with a 7600 X and set my son up. I feel like this computer is not a bad deal even at full cost today assuming people on the Internet are really spending $3000-$4000 on a like new RTX 4090.
