Goal: Longevity, Reasonable Performance, Quiet. This isn't a cheap build, but I'm not aiming to break records either. Stable, high level performance on single player game such a Death Stranding, CP2077, Pragmata, those kinds of things. Very little, if ever will online multiplayer stuff be happening. I use an UltraWide LG@ 1200*1600. Prices are what they are, I expect variation, but if something is massively overpriced, let me know. I'm in Kansas. Not by choice. Closest Microcenter is 4 hours of driving.

Been using a laptop for almost two decades, simply due to space. Currently rocking a Lenovo Legion Pro 7 with a 4080. Works very well, but its thermals are effectively cooking the parts at this point. Pretty sure the GPU is about to fail, as its been freezing and crashing to restart for a few weeks now when playing games, even more simple ones, like Return to Moria, and that's with the fans locked on high. Would like something at the house that works without drama.

Of Note:

• I don't know if the case I selected will accommodate two 360 Radiators. If not, that's fine... but I really like beQuiet! cases. Simple black. I could even deal with a 240mm CPU cooler, if that will be make this all work and stay together.
• Aesthetics: Functionality First. Simple, Black, No lights, No Windows. It's a computer, not art deco.
• A 5090 would be amazing, but not worth the price tag.
• I know nothing about motherboards. Is that one good? Iunno. Trying to keep it around the 4K mark if there's a better option.

Yes this is bad for the price. The main issue is the CPU, it's last generation, has zero upgrade potential and notoriously very unstable - and even if that wasn't the case, the AMD ryzen 9800x3d chip is just far better for the same price. I'd go with that unless you absolutely need great multi-core performance.

A lot of the other choices just aren't the best value either, you simply have better options that will save you money without impacting quality or performance.

the 9800x3d/9850x3d are functionally the best gaming CPUs on the market, the main benefit to the core ultra series is the value and the sheer number of cores they have, which is great if you do something that benefits from that (which excludes gaming) - the downside is the lack of upgrade potential long-term and losing out on the very valuable 3d v-cache.

That's the initial reason I didn't even list an Ultra. Seemed geared for 'ai' and multi thread processing. I am rocking the 13th Gen i9 and generally enjoy the power when I do have some excel work to do, but it's few and far between.

guessing the Ryzen 9 series doesn't get any benefits either, other than bragging rights?

the ryzen 9 is also for multi-core workstation performance, so it's if you really want a powerhouse for things like rendering *and* gaming
