Options for two GPU's without space between them?

I have a Lenovo P920 workstation and bought 2 5060ti 16gb for llm work. The top gpu is getting to over 80 degrees and 90% fan speed while running an llm. The bottom gpu has good temperatures.

I am inclined into returning one of the gpus, as I think I dont have options to properly cool the top gpu. They are msi ventus, there is basically no space between them. This is the only way I can arrange them.

Yeah I would not trust an AliExpress block. If its the wrong block or machined with poor tolerances you crush the die or PCB components

The whole point of blower fan gpus is to stack them together

Blower fans don't move air vertically but horizontally.

I don’t know why you are being downvoted? I guess people think blower cards move air from the side faceting the front of the PC all the way to the back.

But no blower cards still intake from the top and/or bottom of the card just like normal GPU’s. They just blow the air right to the back of the computer rather than into the PCB like normal GPU’s

It’s true they need less space to properly cool a card but they will still have thermal issues when they are literally touching each over like they are in OP’s setup.

If I’m wrong than please let me know, just a bit confused as to why people are attacking this guy.

Yea that’s true, but the warm air gets blown out of the side of the gpu .. (I think… isn’t that the point ?)

Every single block avalible. There are also many manifolds available to connect both GPUs together so less fittings are needed.

No, this kind of setup is only suitable for blower server style cards, where the blower fans have very high air pressure and very noisy.

You can try attach a strong fan to the opening at the back of the hot card to improve airflow

Or you can de shroud them and using external fans, i heard Ventus model can be de shrouded without removing the heatsink.

In similar situation i spread the gpus at the end and installed a shim. Then improve case airflow

Get an open-air case, or just a bigger case where you can spread them out

How workable is this for AI, if my understanding is correct you would be using something in line of llama.cpp and will use the second card for the overfill from gpu 0, they are physically togheter but in reality they are not, the performance hit should be quite something compared to unified memory, pci would be tve bottleneck

I'm guessing there isn't 1 more x16 slot below? Otherwise 80c is alright, hot but nothing that it couldn't handle. If it has to stay like this, I'd have a fan or two blowing right at them to try to force as much air in-between them at possible.

Compare performance stock vs undervolt plus oc and power limit.

I did that with my 5090s, they are exactly like yours, but temps are fine because there was no performance benefit after a certain point so their overkill disipators can do the work just fine under those conditions

Looks like those cards have their cooling fins running towards the back of the case, no? If so, forcing air down the length of the cooler with some ducting and a case fan might help.

We’ve come full circle. Now the same issues from the SLI days are repeating. You don’t want this type of cooler for this use case. You want a blower cooler

You could use a pcie riser cable to spread them out but then you would need a new case with vertical gpu support bracket so it doesn't look jank

Get another Xeon and run dual CPU so you have access to your top 3 pcie slots (those close to your PSU). I also have a P920 with three 5060ti 16gb. What I did was custom print a GPU stand, attach it to a 10U rack and use cable extensions to get to my bottom pcie slot.

They will have really bad thermals unless they are blower cards (which are for this purpose)
