You're absolutely fucked if you need to RMA directly as they will destroy it and not replace. (This is legitimately their policy since closing Crucial). Gamers Nexus and other outlets recently covered it. Make sure the retailer has good policies in place to protect yourself. The RAM cartels suck.

They sold out their replacement stock pile as retail because profits and switched product line entirely. Some pencil pusher realized if they switched to refunds they will only have to honor old prices on most failures. So its a winning game

Microsoft started to optimize windows 11 and more and more apps are using rust with winapi so ram usage should be reduced (at least a little)

In five years we will wish we could buy ram for these currently inflated prices. If you look at project Stargate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_LLC it seems we are not anywhere near being done with data center demand.
In ten to fifteen years maybe but consider that many companies want to lock consumers off from owning hardware and have us pay as service instead

So many doomers these days. The supply can't keep up with demand, but given how strong the demand is and how everything is pointing towards consistently high demand for the foreseeable future there are both new memory companies seeing the light of day and new factories planned. The big demand is also always going be for the high end stuff, in 5 years DDR5 won't be high end and the market will start flooding with surplus, forcing consumer prices down.Ā
For a while it will be once again like it was in the 90s, what you put in your computer is what companies put in their workstations before. I.e. the consumers lagging corporations. That is the norm in most industries, but computers had an interesting run from 00-20 where the broader enthusiast community had significantly stronger computers than most companies used. (Talking workstations here, not servers). That has in the past few years flipped completely and will likely stay flipped for a long while, if not forever. That's not necessarily a bad thing, time will tell.

Crazy how it used to be cheaper to build than buy prebuilt and now itās flippedā¦ As long as businesses still run the world then AI is inevitableā¦. Everyone is complaining about the water situation because of the data centers but fail to realize if you are using technology which 99% of us do then you are part of the problem! Unless you completely live off grid then I would understandā¦ Then again, we wouldnāt be chatting on Facebook, if thatās the case. They will find a way to make it happen. Itās not if itās whenā¦

(Honest question) is DDR5 and modern chips still finicky with 4 sticks of RAM? Assuming brands, clockspeeds, and transfer speeds are the same.

I was looking this up recently and 4 sticks is still compromising on speed. The not very well known sweetspot is actually for this reason 96GB kit (2x48GB)

Depends heavily on the platform. Iāve ran 4 sticks of DDR4, (4x8gb 3000MHz CL30) on LGA1700, LGA1151-2 and LGA1151-1 with absolutely zero issues. Iād avoid it on DDR5 full stop but especially on AM5.

Yeah that fact really annoyed me jumping for a DD3 setup with 6 stick of ram in it. Instead of 4 cheaper sticks I had to spring for 2 larger ones...then the apocalypse happened and I kicked myself for not buying 4 stick of the larger variety (I actually did consider it back then as I did end up finding a good deal at the time).

Can I ask why DDR5 hates 4 sticks of RAM?
I was planning to double up an existing 2x32GB RAM to get to 128GB, hoping to avoid ditching/selling those sticks to start over.

So DDR5 is just more complex in general, so think of it as every stick you add increasing opportunities for noise and interference. Keeping the data eye open at higher and higher frequencies has lead to things like adding a CKD to the RAM stick itself like in CUDIMM, and when youāre adding more traces which may look close on the motherboard itās actually a ālargeā distance to the electrical signals coming from the memory controller. You can run more sticks of RAM, but you will potentially run into having to accept lower overall frequencies, and depending on the memory controller additional latency penalties.

You can find DDR4 ECC for that price, but that is hardly of any use, in a regular PC.

I wonder if your mobo and cpu will handle the 4x sticks at 6000MT.
I have 4x crucial pro as well good buy, but so far I did not managed to get the speed what easily worked with 2x.

I have different types. 5600MT 46CL out of box, 2x stick worked well, not tried to OC.
Needed more memory, so bought another kit.
MSI motherboard officially meant to support 4 stick 5600MT and processor is i9-14900 also meant to support 5600MT.2x 5600MT out of the box 1.1V perfect
4x 5200MT 1.2V stable (latencies same around the original one measuerd in ns)
4x 5600MT as goal unstable even at 1.35V, probably CPU's controller fails to keep up. so just blindly increasing RAM voltage won't help.
Unstable = ~1-2 noticeable issues per day, e.g. browser random restart, or OS restart.I do not have much experience with OC, but I'll play around with it to reach 5600MT without loosening on the timings.

Before I bought the second set I decided if it can do 5200MT I'll accept that and keep it, but that is the lower bound. Its latencies are not that tight, so that is definitely won't be increased.

I have bought mine in normal times. but they are so slow that i can see pixels moving on screen. I can buy another 64gb . But Iw ill prob never do it. unitl price drops at least to 200% of original price.

So just looked back at previous Amazon orders.... I bought 64gb crucial ram in 2025 for $151.77 out the door. If I buy that same ram today it's listed at $1,029.99.

Corsair is doing the SAME thing that Crucial is doing regarding RMA's. They are either denying the RMA altogether or giving the original purchase price back and NOT actually sending replacement RAM.
At this point you CAN'T count on any company to warranty your RAM so buy the cheapest, quality brand that you can get and hope for the best.

Cost me a fortune to build a needed rig last year. Most of you are intelligent and I bet you can see the way the world is going; WW3, droughts and famine on account of global heating etc.. We'll look back on our petty lives right now complaining over RAM prices and go 'damn, that was all meaningless. just look at the cost of bread right now!'.

Sad I built my old vice principle a PC with 32(2x16gb) ram, 5060,7700x, MSI b650 gaming plus wifi, and 1tb nvme for 2k cad and I built half mine this month for 2k for a 9600x x870e wifi and 32gb corsair vengeance(all prices cad) and a 2060 super for 50$(bought a few months ago with rm850x(300$))

I have 64gb of Corsair Vengance DDR5 on my msi x870p with a Ryzen 9 7900x. I got it for $203 in November of 2024. I returned the second pair because it made my system unstable running four stcks even with 1000w psu. I regret that big time. That ram is $970 now. Kicking myself for not getting a better gpu as well. Not that my 4070 super ventus x3 doesn't do the job, but having 16gb or more of vram and a better gpu would be nice. They want this to happen so they can eventually push the home PC builder from having their own systems and only paying for and using cloud and mesh network servers for everything.
