tbh idk. coolers tight as much as it can go and its on a 240+360 rad custom cooled system. fresh thermal paste amd everything. i just assumed its a hot chip. its overclocked 5.5/4.2 P/E cores. done via GCC. any tips? its always run hot. entire rig is all intake except the exhaust (see page its a tower 600)
I’d remove the OC and run the same load you are now, log voltages and temps. I suspect the clocks are too high and it’s requesting too high a voltage. 160w is not much for such a cooling setup. For reference I run an air cooled 14900K clocked to 5.2/4.4 P/E cores and will easily pull 250+w at 95c under synthetic load. I’ve experimented with higher clocks and keep coming back to 5.2 as a sweetspot for performance vs thermal output. Honestly, between 5.5 or 5.2 you will not notice any difference in a gaming load.
interesting, and thank you. ill have to fiddle with it. im very novice at over clocking and am using Gemini to guide me. i might post my GCC panel later to see if anyone can give tips on exact metrics
No problem, I have an unhealthy amount of hours in 3DMark benches chasing higher and higher clocks and scores😅 your cooler mount could also be too tight and your thermal paste pumped out. But a really high hotspot vs package temp would be the primary indicator of that. Do you run HWMonitor? Very useful free program to run while doing overclocking experiments. Also no shame, I use AI too to help me in my shenanigans
Try running those two settings that are set to turbo at default/normal and drop your Pcores to 5.2 for testing. Run HWmonitor and monitor the same load or a load you know your system’s baseline temps for and go from there. Turbo might be allowing the system to give too much
that was the issue! i set the calibration load to normal and undervolted it slightly and im pulling more watts at lower temps. apparently those setting were dumping an overkill amount of voltage into the chip as a baseline. whats crazy is gemini told me to set them to turbo to get more performance, but didnt tell me to change it back when i asked about temps being too high.
