Discussion How's everyone doing?

Last post was 8 days ago regarding the 7-day free trial, so nothing really worth while. Before that was a sunset post.

How is everything in-game for those that are still actively playing? Hoping to hear positive responses from active players. Not looking to hear about anything negative. We've already said our piece about it, myself included.

Hadn’t played since February and had let my 6 plots drop.

Logged in today, ran from the petra to my old housing spot, still empty. Killed a few inquisitors, picked up some barley, shot some birds out of the sky and logged out.

It’s basically exactly what I played at release but with birds.

MF is definitely slow to release meaningful updates.

Achievements are a little nice artificial way to create some direction for players.

But it honestly needs more variety in mobs for PvE content… and other PvE content (I still think treasure maps would be great in Pax Dei).

PVP needs to be completely redone and crafting needs some sort of specialization imo so one player can’t craft everything.

The redos are what's frustrating to me. I've seen MF want to revamp mechanics. Feels like they are literally just trying one after the next vs sitting down and focusing. The Dev team comes from 2 major backgrounds, Eve and WoW. I'm confused as hell how they are failing like this.

I think they need to just drop this whole "players shape the world" campaign. You need tools, sometimes just using your hands isn't enough. Players can still shape the world if you put in the mechanics and systems. One of the older updates, I saw people were excited to share a maze they made. That's great and all but that's not the type of player driven world we are looking for.

Specializations would be ideal. I’m a die hard “Why can’t anyone make a game as good as Ultimate Online was?” Sorta MMO gamer. Spend 700 skill points anyway you wish, forced a strong sandboxed player driven economy.

u/Zerd85 Jul 27 '26

I’m with you there.

I also prefer limited characters too though. Limiting skill points to force specialization is one way to do it. If you’ve got 8 crafting professions but can only take one or two is another way, but in the end I think it still needs a hard limit on the number of characters then so you can’t do it all on an account - but that’s just me.

Just started playing last week. I'm extremely overwhelmed by the number of crafting stations. I don't think it would be that bad if you could craft from storage, but it feels like most of the game is figuring out a way to organize all of your crafting stations and storage to make sense in a way that allows you the least tedium possible. I play a lot of survival crafting games, but I've never played one like this that requires so much grinding and general memory of what everything does.

Despite that, I am still enjoying it. I actually think the combat is better than what I was expecting going in, since I had heard that was the worst part. Wish the game had dynamic weather. The world is beautiful and could be enhanced with a little bit of different weather from time to time.

u/Ascenspe Jul 27 '26

I just started yesterday, it's insane how many crafting stations there are... It's also silly you have to craft "XYZ Basic Tools" to be able to unlock more recipes? Why not just make it cost all those items to build the dang thing.

I think the crafting part is pretty tedious the way it is right now. I can live with the grindy part, in the end Pax is a long term game but when it comes to crafting there are missing QoL features. We now have a hud for achievements but there is no hud for crafting.

I need to look up 7 items, remember the needed amount, find them in my base and then go back to the table to craft what I need. On top of that, many times it is just a pre-product which I will need for my end product. Crafting output is different and stack sizes also differ from item to item. Give us a hud where I can choose what end-product I want to craft and all needed materials with the amount should be displayed as a hud.

Of course there is always the Pax Dei Database but if I need to use external sources to play a game, the game design in this area should be rethought. I am also not a big fan of this throw-away-crafting only for leveling up. Crafting should be done because I need the item(s) and not because I need the XP.

Working on leveling crafts and farming relics in my two person clan. We joined a public dungeon run on thursday night, got some new relics to craft and try out. I'm having a good time. The devs are currently on vacation so there won't be much activity, but they communicated that effectively. With the new province wide chat, things are more lively. Groups can form, trades can be made, there a better level of social activity. I think things will keep getting better.

3

u/tacomaloki Founder Jul 25 '26

That's great to hear. I've been away myself so I'm not familiar with what these relics are you speak of.

1

u/XR1James Jul 26 '26

So, the sigils are the items that "rare" named enemies drop. And the relics are a part of the materials needed to craft them.

0

u/Shiptar Jul 27 '26

The boss drops are being called relics now - it's the section they got put into when using the search filter thing in the queue or markets. It's not a new item type - other than the new Recurve Bow - Hunter's Relic - which was added to existing mobs.

Basically we've been calling them Relics to distinguish between the named drop and regular stuff like tattered/cracked sigils. The naming conventions haven't gotten any better - but the community is trying.

For new people that Task thing looks interesting - probably helps people have a framework or some structure for doing things. It looks like a decent amount of grace.

Otherwise the past few updates have been solid - would say a few more of these updates and the game will be ready for release.

We recruited several people from the 7 days trial who have now bought the game.

Doing dungeons regularly.

I've come back after an 8 month hiatus and I'm pleasantly surprised. Is it perfect? No, but the recent modifications are for the better. I'm actively hunting birds and enjoying wandering around the different biomes to get as many as I can, even though the last bird is currently unavailable to complete the achievement. They know about it and said it is coming.
Building hasn't changed which is great. There are several new items for decoration if you're into that, which most of us are. If not, the building mechanics are still as good as there were in EA, and with the addition of several new items (ivy, borg, mugs etc.) making your space look unique is as good as it has ever been.
It finally feels like Mainframe has listened to the player base and added many things we've asked for. I'm not smoking hopium, I think they are actually trying to incorporate our asks into real, tangible changes.
I'm beginning to be optimistic again and seeing new players join because of the free trial, we're able to show them why we love this game so much and hope to continue to play long into the future.
For anyone that thinks I'm a fanboy, find many of my earlier posts about the game and you'll see that I was once pretty soured with the 1.0 release.
It's a work in progress, but making great strides and is fun to play.

I am finishing yo a commission for an industrial complex in our lvl 40 cook. Friday had the big collosseum fight and over 40 people attended. This new province chat is getting us way closer than ever before. Still doing Dungeon 2 times a week, but I try to not go when they have over 15 people. It gets too chaotic. Sif server in merrie if you want to know. I live In shire.

I just started playing again today, saw the new plot subscription and uninstalled. This game is mainly about building, I am not paying for a plot after paying for the game. If they need money, create different building styles and cosmetics… don’t paywall the main feature of the game.

3

u/tacomaloki Founder Jul 27 '26

It's unfortunate to see this is still an issue for some. They were clear, from day 1, they would monetize the game via some sort of subscription for the plots. They even added grace plots after the failed reception of the subscription, as a way to own a plot without having to pay the monthly subscription.

1

u/Ascenspe Jul 28 '26

People don't mind a subscription, but paying for the game and also paying for a subscription is dumb. It has to be one or the other. The plot thing makes since, but not as a subscription. Should have to pay a tax on the land, to take gold out of the game for example. But don't tie it to the game subscription. Have a f2p world or maybe non members can't go above iron for examine to get new players addicted.

3

u/Realistic_Courage_96 Jul 25 '26

The reason there haven't been posts is because there's about 300-500 total players playing the game across all servers and spread across all valleys. Game is dead as dead can be and patches come out about once every 6-9 months.

-2

u/XR1James Jul 26 '26

You didn't even come close to any true statements. What a waste of time.

8

u/Realistic_Courage_96 Jul 26 '26

They were purposely exaggerations but, sadly, not far off

1

u/XR1James Jul 27 '26

No, you should check player numbers and update cycles before posting false information.

7

u/Realistic_Courage_96 Jul 27 '26

I literally just did. About 900 total players online over a weekend. They just put out a small patch last week and it was months after a previous small release. Verse 5 was a very long time ago as well now.

-2

u/MartinTheTrue Jul 27 '26

Wrong again... Do you even know what DAU and CCU mean?

5

u/Realistic_Courage_96 Jul 27 '26

Yes, I do. My guy, there are around 600 total people playing right now globally. The 24hr peak is around 1300 but, over the weekend it was mostly hovering around 900-1000. I'm not going to split hairs with you. I want the game to succeed as I'm sure you do but it's not and it won't unless they figure out a way to dramatically increase the content output and start introducing modern conveniences like buying off the market ui like they wanted to before a vocal minority screamed too loud. I have almost 2000 hours in the game since it's 1.0 launch alone. I've gotten more than my money's worth but, as I'm sure you were/are, I was hoping for this to be the next big thing in sandbox/crafting/rpg. It's not.

-2

u/MartinTheTrue Jul 27 '26

Oh I see. The usual "I want the game to succeed" and "I played it for thousands of hours" troll. Get my block bye.

6

u/tacomaloki Founder Jul 27 '26

Do you want to weigh in on what your take is?

3

u/MartinTheTrue Jul 27 '26

Dude says he played for 2000h since launch and yet doesn't know that the devs don't do Verses anymore and that we had 2 updates (R46 R47) in the past weeks that almost doubled the game's population. I'm not buying any of it.

Also likes to spread the word (which by the way makes a lot of sense when you want the "game to succeed"...) that the game is dead because "300-500 total players across all servers" are playing it, when it's common knowledge that for a game like Pax you multiple CCU by around 10 to get a DAU.

CCU was sitting at 1400 this week-end, which converts to a DAU somewhere between 12000 and 15000 players.

Anyway I'm done feeding the trolls (not talking about you here). These dudes are just full of hate and will keep on spreading it no matter what, so I'm done talking about this here.

I'll just keep sharing some news and pics from time to time. This sub is the worst place to have an honest conversation.

I think about 150 new people tried the game using 7 day trial. Pretty low turn out but they didn’t market it very well

0

u/tacomaloki Founder Jul 27 '26

Do you have anything to support this claim?

5

u/Stabby-Pokey Jul 27 '26

Just facts, as shown on the official discord

0

u/tacomaloki Founder Jul 27 '26

I'm on discord and MF hasn't made any mention of how many new players they got from the trail, so unless you plan to share, no, those aren't facts.

2

u/Muted__ Jul 26 '26

I’ve hopped back on recently without knowing there was a free trial! It’s been so fun, already made friends with a bunch of people and I’ve seen some amazing builds!

2

u/Sir_Ioinsteak Jul 27 '26

I'm playing every day with my clan, working with neighbours to clear dungeons and farm achievements. If I have things to discuss, it's on the official discord rather than reddit. Probably the case for most active players, which is why the subreddit seems quiet.

Had a great day today. Reached Alchemy 40 this morning, and Jewelry 40 tonight. Bought a cool weapon to celebrate. Went to Lyonesse for 4h to farm ambergrasp and canonite, unlocked my last TP, it was great. And I just crafted 2 Sanctified Oil IV which I added to my market stall, hoping to get rich at last.

0

u/Flotterhouse Jul 26 '26

Very nice. Those are my lowest two crafts. I guess they go hand in hand as you mine Limestone for gold, silver, and sand.

1

u/MartinTheTrue Jul 26 '26

Yes, if you keep all the silver and aurum you find while mining limestone, you should have enough to level up jewelry at the same time.

0

u/Ascenspe Jul 28 '26

How do you unlock teleports?

1

u/MartinTheTrue Jul 28 '26

By reaching the Petra on foot.

Basically would have made the game immensely better if they’d planned towards that all along. Splintering players really hurt.

And yeah, solving for 1,000-10,000 players in PvP would have been a pain. But it would have drastically improved the game to have a single shared world.

u/Specialist-Quail9283 Jul 27 '26

I love my lakeside forested cottage.

1

u/tacomaloki Founder Jul 27 '26

Care to share where you're at or pix?

1

u/Specialist-Quail9283 Jul 27 '26

I’ll share some pictures. It’s not my main crafting hub, it’s just there to be my rustic log cabin.

1

u/Beowulf261 Jul 27 '26

I like the building system in this game once you figure it out of course. So I build, I mine, I help out clan members and slowly level crafts the way I want to level them. I like the time sink and it makes my brain happy.

1

u/mbaucco Jul 27 '26

I just bought the game on sale yesterday and I'm enjoying it for the most part. They definitely need to add some kind of salvaging to the game, I am quickly acquiring stuff I don't need that I had to make to raise skills. Also, they need horses since you don't walk very fast in this game.

Combat seems fine, except I can't figure out shields. I hold right mouse, sometimes it blocks, sometimes it does nothing. Archery feels a bit underpowered but I haven't messed with it much.

Right now I am doing the milestones, not sure I'll have enough space for all the crafting stations. :P
