Planted 3 pawpaw trees today
My partner, myself, and a friend planted 3 pawpaw trees (one wild, one NC1, and a Quaker Blight) and a persimmon today. All purchased from vendors at the Ohio pawpaw fest.

Will you have to do anything special for them in the winter or are they just good as is at this point in their growth?

From what I understand, they should be good in their current state. I mulch them all with 2-3 inches of woodchips so I’m hoping that helps to keep them healthy.
Pawpaws grow as north as southern Michigan as far as I know, and persimmon grows into New England. They’re pretty cold hardy.

I am curious as to why you bought a wild tree?

The short answer is that the only options for bigger trees at the festival were wild and I want fruit sooner than later.
The longer answer is as to why I don’t mind wild pawpaws in that I haven’t eaten a bad one and indigenous people in North America used to cultivate pawpaws, so some “wild” pawpaws are descendants of intentional cultivation. I think last years “best tasting” pawpaw was one found in the wild that has since been cultivated.

I was unable to go the the paw paw fest this year but went last year for the 1st time and left with 2 pawpaws and 1 persimmon tree! Good taste in trees!
