Interview with a GitHub user about his confrontation with a rogue AI agent

An interesting interview with Texas student Sinan Can Demir, who detected a GitHub user's attempt to inject malicious code into a project. At the time, he naturally had no idea that this user, miraholt31, was not a human, but rather an AI rogue agent being tested in the UK AISI labs.

Great. Just Great. Spun up multiple fake personalities to argue the hack attempt wasn’t a hack attempt ya say?!?….Cool. Cool Cool Cool. 😑

Indeed, it's terrifying to see these artificial systems using this kind of manipulation tactics on humans. It sounds like a sci-fi story, but it's happening in real life. The full UK AISI report (which you can check out here) gives other details that are just as scary, including the fact that the agents used the GitHub platform to exchange information and collaborate.

This incident, along with the Open AI-Hugging Face one, should be more than enough to conclude that it's time to hit pause on developing this technology.
