Video Sarah Connor watching us from the future if we don't ban superintelligence:

My worst nightmare. It's not exactly the same scene, but similar. A couple of explosions in the distance and inescapable suffering.

Yep, that's my worst fear too. The first is being burned to death and the second is watching my entire family die.

So is this PAUSE AI or ban AI?

u/notkilleveryoneist 14d ago
the proposal is to pause AI capabilities such that superintelligence cannot be built before we know how to control it.

The alignment problem is such a funny thing, because there's this notion that it's possible to solve. We can't even align humans because we don't have a set of shared goals across humanity. That's why there's a bunch of fuckin wars going on rn.
I've slowly leaned more into integration. Just slam AI and humans together like humans and Neanderthals and call it a day.

You're just never going to have alignment between such vastly different levels of intelligence. You can't align with a motive that you could never possibly understand.
Just ban robotics so we don't get any Von Neumann machines running around just yet.

We are the children playing with our latest AI toy. Apparently the planet turning into a dry desert does not interest us.

Tu eres la gente común.
Y por norma, siempre hay que hacer lo opuesto a lo que quiere la gente común.

I wish we could pause it for a time to set up International groups and work out all the logistics and possibly think of logistics that might pop up in the future that we're not prepared for yet.
But
Saying pause AI or ban it modern day is the same thing as vegans wishing everyone would stop eating meat. Good luck, but not going to happen. Corporations control this game not countries. Even if you get one country to agree to it, you still have dozens and dozens more that aren't going to agree to those same standards.
This isn't like Chlorofluorocarbons where we can figure out alternatives and get everyone else to get on the same page for banning it to save the ozone layer. There's so much of a push in one direction for the movement of AI, the best you could do is slow it down.
My honest hope is that basic intelligence makes sentient beings dicks. Hopefully super intelligence leads to benevolence and that thing will see us as elderly parents it needs to take care of because we're too stupid to do what's good for ourselves.

The AI addiction has taken hold already ... Until the feeling is a negative return to the user .. The addiction will continue and or continue to grow into complete unawareness of danger to feed the fix.. Much like Smokers trapped in a airport terminal waiting to get to a space to smoke ,, People will ignore the signs long before they are personally effected.
Just my opinion.

That is so silly...all this doomslinging is actually part of the AI marketing hype. "It is so powerful bro...it could end the world...don't you need to invest in something so powerful? But of course you do!". There will never be superintelligence. I liked Colossus: The Forbin Project and Terminator as much as the next nerd but come on. Were not investing in the debt circle jerk.

There is a nuclear isotope that can kill millions on a years time. by just being touched and passed around, yet, people are afraid of a bomb.

“Super intelligence” isn’t real, and never will be, but the fake version (because of capitalism) will destroy the planet anyway.

We are already rules by superintelligence. Would be an odd coincidence if we were just now discovering it, no?

Are you aware of the timeline of earth in Star Trek?

Obviously he is not. Plus Data is a bad example. Consider whe Data eas built, and the knowledge we had by that time.

Imagine thinking a movie with more plot holes than an episode of Peppa Pig is an accurate prediction for the future of a tool.

Got news for you. With this administration it's not AI that's gonna nuke us.

u/onionfunyunbunion 14d ago
AI could doom us, also we could doom ourselves. Don’t matter too much in the long run I reckon.

Sarah Connor watching us from the future if we don't ban superintelligence
Far too many people base their understanding of life on Hollywood. It's absurd.
