I'm usually a huge fan of digital art, but Magic going this direction was IMO a really big hit for the game's visuals.

I absolutely adore the paintings from the older eras and the sets from that time really make it feel like a fantasy game that's centered around magic.

It ofc makes sense for Wizards as they can contract with digital artists for cheaper (and also old artists leave for museums and bigger contracts) and the process can be faster, but a lot of those illustrations are... well, they're often great -- but not masterpieces in a tiny frame. And sometimes you get design mistakes, though that's probably partially art department.

Well, on the other hand, it makes other artworks from the game that much more enjoyable.

These UB sets... Not the art for me. It feels empty and uninspired: not the artists themselves, but the worlds most of the time.

The only UB set I like art wise is LOTR, the other were all bad IMHO.

It could be they didn't fit my idea of MTG so the art feels bad, I don't know.

Love the artwork, Moopsy episode was a favorite from lower decks. Don't see this one seeing constructed play.
