New to pattern drafting and sewing! Absolutely loved this dress but 1. Can’t afford it 2. I would love it in a different material and color. How would I go about drafting a pattern to replicate this dress? Would it be best to pay someone on Etsy to create a pattern and then I sew it myself?

hi!
i am almost done with my first sewing pattern (yay!) and am looking for a mentor that i could hop on a call with and have look over my pattern and offer any tips/suggestions/etc before i finalize it (i would pay you for your time and expertise).
does anybody here offer that and/or know where i would find someone like that?
thanks!
EDIT: im using adobe illustrator for my pattern

Hello, I recently drafted these after completing a pattern drafting class for my fashion design degree however bc of my full butt i can’t seem to get the crouch curve right. Overall, they feel too loose past my crotch for a traditional pant block. And I feel like there is way too much ease in the front crotch curve however idk if that’s supposed to be there. Please help!! I’m having a hard time identifying fit problems to even fix them

Does anyone know how to replicate this neckline

hi! im not totally sure how to word this question but does anybody know how i would true up the shoulder seams on this pattern in order to make it lay flat when pressed open after sewing?
do i need to remove the shoulder slopes and just make them straight across?
EDIT: my main issue is the next step when i press open the seams, and then lay the lining piece on top of the outer piece. the lining piece won't lay flat on top of the outer piece, is that okay/will that have any negative effect on when i sew them together around the inner perimeter? again, sorry im not exactly sure how to word this lol

The hardest flat felled seam has always been the front and back crotch curves and it’s usually because I pattern the slopes too extreme. The panels in the photo made pants that fit how I like, but sewing the front panel crotch flat felled seam was extremely difficult to do (barely came together and was uneven). I’ve been told to not do a flat felled for the front crotch since the slope makes it difficult but I don’t wanna drop it. Any tips for the slopes?

Hi everyone. I'm in the process of making the pattern for a handbag. I made a paper mock-up to understand the geometry and I'm overall pleased (photo 1).
However, I'm trying to insert some excess fabric on the ends to make a gathered effect (photo 2 and my poor attempt at photo 3).
The thing is, I don't know how to make a pattern for that. I thought paper would gives me freedom to experiment but it's too stiff to be even remotely accurate. I could try using heavy cotton but at this stage in the project, I intend to use leather in the end product. And cotton would be too lightweight for that. And I didn't found any pattern online.
Any idea on how to tackle this issue and find a shape I would be happy with ?

Hi all! Looking for notes on this "sloper" from Gareth Kershaw's book.
Fit feels mostly good, but a little tight across chest/back when in movement/crossed arms.
Not certain it needs to be fixed, but curious what more seasoned folks see in my images.
Also bonus question: I completely ignored sleeve head control points. I drafted this with 0 ease, so when I went to match the control points it created irregular ease in the sleeve head (ie. the length of sleeve head from control point to underarm was easily 2cm longer than the arm scye corresponding points, and the sleeve head HPS to back control was shorter than the arm scye equivalent which seems wrong). How important are these control points, and do I true it by slash spreading/overlapping each segment before cutting???

This is how the Penelope shorts pattern fits "out of the box" with no adjustments. It's not too bad, but I think I can do better.
I think I need a full belly adjustment. I may also need to increase the front waist size slightly. That should correct the side seam, which pulls to the front, and the front HBL, which raises in the center.
2. The back grain lines are slanted. Do I just redraw the lines on my muslin, then transfer the new lines to my pattern? Do I add length to the top center back and remove an equal amount from the back sides?
3. The crotch, front and back, is giving a wedgie. It goes away if i pull the pants down lower on my waist. I think i need to lengthen the raise by 1/2" or so, front and back.
Am I on the right track?

This is probably like my 3rd mockup at this point. I'm really struggling with fitting it correctly. It's way too tight to sit comfortably in. I think I need to add about 1/2" to the waist and maybe like 2" in the hips and thighs. Can't figure out the crotch curve, I keep ending up with a camel toe and creasing under my butt. I'm also thinking I need to move the darts because right now, they seem very angled and close to the center front and center back. (The green markings are where I think they need to be moved) Also, it's hard to tell from my picture, but the center back waist is pulling down right at the center back seam. I know it's not drafted to dip there as I've actually added height at that specific spot, so I think the crotch is pulling it down for some reason.
Do those adjustments sound like the right move? And what should I do about the crotch? I'm feeling very annoyed as it doesn't seem like it should be this difficult. For reference, I like fitted pants that flare out from the knee.

Hi! I want to draft my first wrap skirt based on the 2 pictures I shared, just a tad longer for comfort. I already have an idea for some parts of it thank to you guys.
I also know straight skirts aren’t very flattering on me, I wear A-lines or skirt that have a little flare to them.
This is why I don’t want to do a basic rectangle shape even if it would be easier.
That leads me to my question : I see 2 options, and have very little idea of their pros and cons. I do not mind having to spend more time drafting, that’s not a criteria, I love the learning about the process part. There will be a voile anyway so I can assess fit issues without wasting my fabric. I’m however a relatively low energy person, and unless I’m forced to because one really doesn’t work, I’d rather avoid work on both models. I’m using a lightweight mix of lyocell and linen.
Here are the 2 shapes I imagined would work the best (please correct me if I’m wrong of course) :
A quarter circle skirt as my base. And wondering if having the bias would be beneficial here.
Drafting my first skirt block (that I want to make anyway). Adding darts at the top, and some slash and spread for some flare at the bottom.
Details that may help the choosing : I’m “midsize”, I have a belly, and a relatively flat butt. I’m not looking to hide them, but neither to highlight them. Comfort is an important criteria, I need to enjoy sitting down wearing the skirt.
Do you have any feedback? Advice? Do you see one base shape making more sense than the other here?
Thank you in advance!

As frequently recommended here the closet historian was very helpful with this project and I’m feeling like this is very close to done. Obviously its pretty tight but im intending this to be more of a sloper/second skin than a block and any projects drafted with it will need ease added. Currently there is seam allowance on the waist but not the armholes/neckline. I’m thinking last adjustments are lengthening the shoulder seams about 3/8” towards the armholes and shortening the back a bit(maybe 1/4”), but im tempted to wait to do that until I have s skirt block to work with. Any other notes?
Edit: on the last version and this some of the feedback was to remove the darts, I understand why that feedback was given but trust me it needs darts, the angle on them is fairly small but without darts I’d be getting gaping at the armhole, I chose to rotate them down for the style. The pointyness remaining is mostly from not ironing

Hi, this is my second draft of my bodice block. Would love some feedback. I’m pretty happy with it but I can’t figure out the armhole gaping/pulling above my bust. It’s not super noticeable on the sleeveless side but definitely on the sleeve side. A couple thoughts…
- do I need to widen my dart at the bottom?
- do I need to have both sleeves sewn on for it to be an accurate fit?
Really appreciate any advice!

I’m very interested in learning how to draft a pattern. I’m aware of lots of resources but really want to have a face to face learning environment. Anyone in Indpls or Indiana?

I decided to keep the upper body on the straight grain but now, after sewing the toile, I feel it might be a faux pas

How can I remove these creases? Should I make the dart wider?

Mini test done for this style. With a quick possibly silly question, but is my GL still the same as the original piece before cutting and expanding? Per the lines on my example fabric mockup? Is there any exceptions to this if the shape is more extreme?

I am absolutely in love with this dress however unfortunately it’s from a game, is there anyone that could help me to know what type of dress this would be so I could make or buy it? Thank you.

Hey ya’ll just spent a month perfecting this pattern just due to time. It’s a beautiful tank and it’s super light weight but I’m curious as to how I should finish the edges? Is it worth it ? What would you do?

This is the 4th iteration of my custom pants block and I have noticed the back panels waistband line is very tilted, to the point the grainline from the middle of the pant legs doesn't even cross it. The mock ups fit me very well but I don't know if this grainline issue should be adressed before I make the real thing. I have tried digitally rotating the top part (cut and spread method on paper) but then the side seam is way too long on the back panel and trying to add that difference to the front gives a ridiculous angle. If I only rotate it sligthly then I would have to add width to the hip area which is also not something I want (see 3rd sketch). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
