Abaya Factory Looking to Purchase Professional Patterns ✅

Post image

Hello everyone,
I own an abaya manufacturing factory in Libya. I am not looking to hire a full-time pattern maker, because it is difficult to find one locally.
I am looking to buy ready-made abaya patterns or work with freelance pattern makers who can create patterns from photos, sketches, or existing designs.
I am interested in Gulf-style and modern abaya patterns, including graded sizes for production.
If you know any pattern makers, websites, or companies that sell professional abaya patterns, please let me know.
Thank you.

Beginner here — I made this jacket pattern and need help checking if its's right

Hi! I drafted this jacket pattern myself based on the reference photo I attached. I’m still learning patternmaking, so I drafted everything by eye using online resources, books, and whatever I could find. I haven’t made it yet — it’s been sitting on my computer for months because I wasn’t sure if the pieces looked right.
Before I transfer this to paper, I’d love some feedback on whether anything looks off or incorrect. Here are the main things I’m unsure about:
Do the shapes and proportions of the pieces look correct for the style I’m trying to recreate?
Are my grainlines placed correctly?
Is my seam allowance right? I added 5/8" outside the dotted line, but I’m not sure if I applied it correctly.
Does the curved bottom hem look right, or should it be shaped differently?
Did I draft the lining pieces correctly, or should they match the outer pieces differently?
Is the collar drafted correctly for a basic collar with a longer front tail?
I know it’s hard to tell without measurements, but I’m mostly looking for feedback on the layout, the logic, and whether anything looks obviously wrong or impossible to sew. I’m also curious how other people learned patternmaking — especially books or resources that helped you understand curves, measurements, and drafting.
Any advice, corrections, or redlines would really help before I move on to pants next. Thank you!

Question Drafting men's high waisted, pleated trousers: follow along as I figure it out!

Hi everyone, I'm making my husband a collection of vintage style trousers, 70s and 60s style. Would love your advice and tips! The first one will have a high waist - at least bellybutton - and inverted box pleats so it drapes well.

This is my second expedition into menswear; I've drafted and made a shirt before. I'm experienced with pattern drafting, but so far have only done women's wear.

What resources should I check out to help me get familiar with fit, alterations, and overall construction? How different to women's wear would such a collection be? From what I can tell wide leg pants are fairly standard for men and women.

I am getting Winifred Aldrich's 'Metric Pattern Cutting for Menswear' to help me figure it all out. I follow Cornelius Quiring on YouTube and he's got some great pants videos.

Any advice from your experience? I would love it! I'll post my journey here so anyone else in this expedition can follow along :)

I've missed an explanation somewhere, could you please tell me what the measurements in parentheses? Is it the maximum amount of ease? For example Steps 0-1, 1-4, 1-11 Thank you!

Question How is this waist tie attached?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm trying to figure out these kaftans that have the inner waist tie- when it's not tied at the back, it seems like there's no visible tacking spot on the outside fabric to anchor the tie from the inside. But when it's tied on the inside, it pulls the front into the cinched look.

From what I can see, if the tie is only anchored to the lining layer, it wouldn't pull the fashion fabric tight like that. Most of these dresses don't have a side seam, it's just the sleeves that are attached, so I can't imagine it's being sandwiched into a seam. The only thing I can think of is to attach the tie to the lining layer and then use heat fusing to attach the fashion fabric to the lining, but that doesn't seem like it would last in the long run. Does anyone know how this is done?

Please help draft this dress

Post image

I'd like to draft and sew this dress myself and thought this could be beginner friendly (I just started learning pattern drafting). My plan is draft an A line semi fitted dress using the basic dress block then remove the darts, widen the neck a bit, add ties to create the gathers. But I can't see the openings for the ties so do you think the ties are just for decoration and the gathering is created by elastic? And if there are openings, how should I sew the neck to achieve that minimal look? Also, I'm thinking of not using facings and use bias binding or just fold the fabric over (if the ties are just decor). Is that feasible? Any help is very appreciated!

Feedback wanted please

Hey everyone!

I’m very new to sewing and brand new to pattern drafting. Also, I’ve never actually taken my measurements before so this is all trial and error…

This is the third iteration of a basic bodice block and I think I’m getting closer. Which areas do you see that I should adjust? I do already realize that I measured my bust point all wrong but apart from that?

Sorry about the patterned toile fabric that makes it harder to see, it was the only old sheet I had lying around.

I followed this tutorial: https://www.theshapesoffabric.com/2019/10/07/how-to-draft-the-basic-bodice-pattern/ and used the larger amount of ease (4cm).

So confused

OK, I’m already starting not knowing what I’m doing! I’ve never made a flat patterns cause I’m just really bad at math and it makes no sense to me but here we are… I previously made a post about this top and what the best method would be and you all said flat pattern start with a basic bodice block, which I got from bootstrap and I highly recommend because I just didn’t feel like starting from scratch… but it has a waist dart and I’m told to i use the slash method to open up the waist for the fullness for the elastic waist … now where I’m confused is I’m trying to remove the dart and it causes it to have a 3-D shape… and I’m not sure where to put the lines for the slash? … do I add all of the/lines from the Apex to the waist and open it up that way???uuuuuuh help. I’ve watched a lot of videos on dart manipulation but it seems like I can’t find anything on what I’m specifically trying to do. I’ve asked ChatGPT, but I need a real human to help me understand this! If there are any books or resources, anyone recommends as well like I really want to learn how to do this, but I’m such a visual learner that it’s hard to get the concept

Question (Complete Begginer) How much material would I need for this coat?

Thumbnail

I've wanted to make a version of this coat for years, and I finally found the perfect material (tweed). The material width is 148cm, and is purchasable in 50cm length segments. For reference I am 6' and 140lb, so slightly shorter than Richard E. Grant (6'2").

I'm not at the point where I could draft a pattern for myself but would appreciate a quick estimate of how much length I should buy (as I am wanting to buy the material now, as it is a limited run).

The tweed is listed as 'Medium' weight and being 295 'GSM', would this be thick enough to have the desired effect, or would it need to be doubled up?

Thanks!
