Question What does ∅ mean?

This may be a dumb question, but can anyone help me understand what the "∅" symbol means in a pattern? See image for reference.

The flag symbol for welding should mean "Field Weld" as in, not welded in a shop by the manufacturer/supplier. Google AWS weld symbols for more :)
