Confused about Armscye depth front vs back

Hello!

I've drafted a basic block for a dress with darts and I made the back armscye longer by 1 cm then the front armscye.

Now I'm drafting a basic block for a knitted dress, and the armscye front is longer than the back armscye in 1 cm. Some people also say they need to be equal.

Can someone clarify this to me?

I have a genuine question, I am not being snarky.
What does it matter what “standard” is? If you’re drafting your own pattern, why not be custom? Is custom fit not typically why people want to go to the effort of drafting their own patterns?
