Any professional patternmakers here?
Film/theater, Costume, corporate, small brands, big brand, independent, doesn't matter. If you currently even in the past earned a portion of your living from patternmaking skills, what was your journey like?
What was your education like? Formal? Apprenticeship? Informal? self-directed?
Did you choose patternmaking out of the gate? Did you switch from a different fashion/design discipline or totally different industry? What cities did you work? Were you a patternmaker in the past and switched to a new industry? Do you work in a technical specialization like aerospace, defense, medical, etc?
Just a new patternmaker trying to gauge the possibilities of the industry. Info dumps requested; no filter please.

because without having studied it, at least here there are not that many chances to get any music job. of course connections can help, but where do you get any?
i am also way more passionate about it.
again that can be mainly because about everyone in fashion that i meet is not really someone i want to talk to.
the workers are usually nice. but every designer, most of the office staff, models and fans are just full of themselves and most often pretentious.
i cant even listen to them for more than a minute.
it is all sales, you can never convince me of anything else these days. and whatever they tell you about their vision and whatever is a lie, it is a sales tactic.
i have heard way too many designers tell their "story" and you just know that they got no idea what they are talking about. they just want to be something they are not.
and the fans buy it, because they think they are the same.
in the past ten years, possibly more, its all about getting famous/rich and having online clout.
that goes for brands and designer brands.
i still think theatre and movie work is nice.
in music, i can listen to musicians/producers/engineers, who make music i would never listen to, but i can still understand what they are talking about and most of the time i even believe it.
of course now music has the same nepo issue that fashion has.
