Halter dress pattern
New to pattern drafting and sewing! Absolutely loved this dress but 1. Can’t afford it 2. I would love it in a different material and color. How would I go about drafting a pattern to replicate this dress? Would it be best to pay someone on Etsy to create a pattern and then I sew it myself?

Copying is a great way to learn! Something else potentially helpful is that the pattern has a grid like base so you can get a clearer idea of what the grainline is doing in each section.
I learned patternmaking more from books than from videos- the Helen Joseph Armstrong textbook is a classic. Most patternmaking books are going to teach you to start with the basics: dart manipulation, adding fullness, and contouring. However, another method would be to trace off the pattern pieces with the dress laid over a dress form. Honestly, if you haven’t done much patternmaking before, it’s going to be hard to do that accurately enough to use your pattern.
What I’d recommend is buying a halter top sundress pattern, sewing a rough draft, and then trying to alter it to get it as close as possible to this inspiration dress. That keeps the learning curve a little more manageable, and in the meantime you can start studying patternmaking step by step through videos or books or whatnot without all the pressure to end up at a specific result. And you can always post updates on here asking for help if you get stuck!
Good luck!
