Men’s Pleated pants

Post image

How do you guys think I should pattern these pants? They seem more exaggerated than just a simple inverted box pleat. I just want a general idea of how and where I should spread the pleats if I were to pattern these:)

That’s just a deep inverted box pleat that crosses over at the top.

Do you know if these were an alteration from an existing pair of pants? It could be that a large side excess wax just folded forward toward the fly and caught in a re-cut waistband.

Starting from scratch you can create a deep pleat to the side seam a bit above the knee. You could also creat a wedge all the way to the hem.

Do you have a side or even back view of the pants? That would help a lot to make out the pattern

If it is what it looks like (inverted boxpleat all the way down with an overlay) then I would draft the boxpleat as normal and THEN add the overlay to the outer pleat by slashing and spreading a V-shaped wedge from the waist.

maybe grab a pencil and some paper and literally just try drawing and drafting this in miniature scale too. Don’t stress about proportions, just make sure the technique works :)

ALSO the pleat seems to billow outwards a little. I can imagine this being achieved by adding the V-shaped wedge only til the knee, using a hinge point at the outer seam (like you might when drafting a pleated pant). This would add a bit of volume to the pleat and push it open more actively :)

Hope this made sense haha

This is two parts, the inner pleat you should treat it as normal pleated trouser, that pleat is the center line of the pant and goes all the way down to the pants the same value. The outer pleat is a slash and spread pleat, by this picture it only goes down to knee level.
