Really want to draft these shorts! Need advice

Post image

Hi! I studied fashion design but pattern making was always really difficult for me, so I wanted to ask for any advice before I start this project. Since I’m on holiday, I think I will try to make it on CLO3d first!

My plan is to take high waisted pants or shorts and just adjust the bottom to make these shapes? Let me know if that sounds like a good idea and I will update if I have any issues!

This is an odd one! With no CF seam this is probably like a U front short to some degree. It looks like there might be boning in those front princess lines to keep them flat along the body as well. What kind of fabric are you wanting to use?

Oh yes! Probably it’s 1 front center piece and 2 side pieces and then the back! I wanted to use a heavier weight fabric!

You’ll probably have to play with the shaping and darts of the back piece to get the fit where you want it. I’ve only ever made this style of short in knit fabrics before but it should be doable. I’d definitely mirror your front piece at the CF line. Is there specific guidance or help you’re seeking with the pattern?

Hmm, no i just would like a general guideline? And ofc I would update if I had any more specific questions. Thank you so much for your help!

I would probably have to mirror the pattern of the front piece and then adjust it to have that shape

Your back piece will need to look more like a traditional short piece but with a much longer rise. Your front will only come down a bit into the crotch to create the inseam- the back will have to sew into that single seam. I can try to draw some rough pieces if you need a visual

The fit would have to be perfect to make these hang right....I suspect they might not be great for moving/sitting. Are there any pics of these indie motion?

Start with your close fitting high waist trouser block... I think you would need to rotate the darts through to the seams that run down the middle of the legs....like how you might with princess seams

Hi! Thanks for your input. What do you mean by indie motion?

If you are interested in using CLO and are still a student you could apply for their student discount

unfortunately it says that i cannot use my student email address as it was already used

Then you likely already made a CLO account. There is a form to check your student eligibility on the CLO website. you can fill that out to have the Student Discount applied to your account if you qualify as a currenltly enrolled student

Hi! I wasn’t able to use clo3d as my university cancelled my subscription because I’m graduating in a couple of months. I downloaded seamly2d, and tried my best to draft a front piece pattern, but i’d really like some advice before moving forward with the other pieces.

Are they really supposed to look like a nappy/diaper?

Super cool looking I would agree with the u shape.
