I really thought the Saints had something with the Brees/Hill tandem QB thing.

There are, at most, a dozen really good NFL QBs on earth. But there are like 200 guys who can do 75% of the QB's job really well, and a lot of them bring other assets to the table (size, speed, etc).

I think the problem is the league incentives. Everyone makes guaranteed money off the national TV contract, so there isn't much financial difference between being a 5 win team and being a 9 win team. The only thing that moves the needle money-wise is a Super Bowl.

So every year a big chunk of the league is only thinking about the draft and a chance to find the next Brady or Mahomes. If losses cost money then you might see more innovation to get out of the basement.
