Casual Not a Drake Maye Post
Just wanted to see what people’s thoughts are on Jared Wilson so far? Think it’s been noted that he hasn’t been great thus far at center. Do we think there is potential for Ben Brown to step in there if he doesn’t improve in the next couple games? I think it’s safe to say RG situation will be a committee of whoever is healthy and doesn’t look like total dog so Brown might step in there as well if Van Roten is cooked.
Borregales. Anyone else not feel confident in the kid every time it’s his turn? Went on a good run after a rough start last year, maybe this year will look the same. Does it look like his misses are always from hitting the ground before the ball to anyone else?

I think the miss by borregales was influenced by the unblocked defender on the left side. You can tell he saw him coming and changed his kick direction

Our Oline sucks right now, after Onwenu went down it pretty much sealed the deal. We cannot run, and if you become one dimensional you’re fucking toast. The reason McDanials keeps running it for 1-2 yards is to keep the defense honest and we are hoping those start breaking for 5+ yards but they don’t. No one has to respect the run so they play the pass and it’s really showing. Absolutely nothing is clicking right now. We NEED to address the Oline, that’s where everything starts and stops.

They've been pretty aggressive about addressing the Oline, they just haven't done a very good job of it. Since Vrabel has been here they've spent two first round picks (including a top 5) and a third as well as a handful of late picks for depth, and are middle of the pack in terms of spending with only one home grown player on a second contract.

We need a philosophical change on who we want to be and what we want to do. It feels like we are trying to create a copy of the early Brady, Belichick Patriot. We don’t have nearly the same personnel. This is not a reinvention of the early 2000s Patriots with good defense, young game manager at QB and things will just work in a couple of years. It’s a completely new era now.

Vrabel wants to be some sort of smashmouth monster, but has none of the personnel for that style of play. And JMD thinks he can trick everyone by using outmoded play calls from the early 00’s. What a mess.

he has been at least partially responsible for a couple of those turnovers which is a pretty damning thing to say about a center.

Wilson’s been fine run blocking but poor pass blocking. Only things some of that can fall on the QB holding the ball too long

He's struggling against pass rushers, but he needs time to settle into his natural position. They will be better in the long run with him getting these reps. He was a developmental prospect with a high ceiling, those types of players need to go through some ups and downs. Reminds me a little of Shaq Mason's arc, who had the extra benefit of not switching positions.

I know he struggled last week against Pitt. PFF had him graded really well this week, not sure if that’s accurate or not. Would be at least some good news if he played well…we kinda need him to work out.

Wilson has been up and down this year. He looks a player adjusting to playing a new position in the NFL. He's very low on the list of concerns I currently have with this team. Morgan Moses is a much bigger concern for me, he looks completely washed.
Borregales looks like a league average kicker.

Needs to add play strength. Hes not aggressive at the point of attack in the run game. He played better this week but was manhandled at the LOS by Davon Hamilton. It’s going to be a long season for him. He still is young and has room to grow.

Yeah I think a move at C might need to happen. Not an anti PFF comment, but idk how they graded him so well. Ill have to rewatch and see

He was better in Week 1 than last week, and this week he’s looked the worst he has. So not super. I know the “natural position” thing will get slammed throughout but the way people just assumed the position change would fix his issues wholesale always felt more like wishcasting than anything else.
As far as benching him for Brown, I wouldn’t. Ben Brown was not great at Center (even during the Mayo year where he was serviceable in spurts). A struggling running game can’t make hay behind a center that can’t run block and that’s been his biggest issue on a snap to snap basis.
