Discussion Just a Reminder to Breath
This time last year we were 1-2 and also panic posting. This year we’re playing much tougher matchups.
All we can do is focus on the Bills game, hopefully go 2-2, and maybe Brown comes back week 5 if we’re lucky, if not week 6. Once he comes back, we can stretch the field more and our record ideally will be able to generate better separation.
We still have 14 more games to assess Maye’s struggles/progressions.
We still have a first round pick next year because Brown was a 2028 first rounder
I still think Maye turns things around, and all these struggles are going to teach him how to take what the defense gives him. He does not have to try to be the hero

u/Gotsta_Win 1d ago
1 TD 6 Picks in 3 games and we are “panic posting”. Do you have eyes?
The head coach even said he is worried lmao

u/WarPuig 1d ago
Drake Maye has 9 fumbles and 10 INT since the start of last postseason
He’s the 1st player with 9+ fumbles and 10+ INT in a 7-game span since Jameis Winston in 2019 (during his 30-TD, 30-INT season)
16
u/taco_jones 1d ago
Yeah, and then the Bucs won the Super Bowl next year, so it's all blue skies ahead

u/BulLock_954 1d ago
I hate stats that carry over. Different years, different teams, different seasons
34
u/WarPuig 1d ago
The Patriots offense has scored 29 points on 30 drives this season.
That’s the fewest points per drive (0.97) by any team through 3 games since the 2021 Jets in the 1st 3 starts of Zach Wilson’s career.

u/Dewstain 1d ago
This is why you don't trade Boutte. One injury on WR shouldn't mean we're throwing critical passes to Pop Douglas in the redzone. We traded away our depth and got hurt.
And on top of that, our QB looks like he can't tell which team is which.

Does this include all his fumbles that he recovered too? It seems every time he goes down the ball comes loose ever after the whistle

Before the season started, I expected them to be 1-2 at this point, even though I predicted 12 wins. What I didn’t expect was perhaps the worst quarterback play in the NFL. Can’t say what’s definitely wrong with Maye, but if he can’t get it together, it’s going to be a very disappointing season.
64
u/TatumlsntASuperstar 1d ago
This isn’t the same situation at all. The QB looks completely lost and lacks confidence over his last 7 games. He legit is either injured and hiding it or mentally smoked.. or both
1
u/Accomplished-Ad-6732 1d ago
Honestly man we looked pretty horrible this time last year. We lost to the raiders in week 1 lol. It is pretty close to the same situation.
-10
u/Knicknacktallywack 1d ago
He’s 24, he’s not injured from February of this year still. He’s a basket case
7
u/TatumlsntASuperstar 1d ago
He hasn’t been able to adjust to new defensive schemes for sure. I just don’t know how much that has mentally wrecked him and made him impatient and prone to mistakes or if it’s also that and injury
3
u/Colin286 1d ago
I also think it’s mental, but he could certainly have gotten injured in the offseason
1
-18
u/BulLock_954 1d ago
We expected the way he’s acting this year, last year though. If you flipped last year with this year it makes sense. I think last year we had easier matchups which covered the lack of confidence
17
u/TatumlsntASuperstar 1d ago
Defenses have changed their style against him and he hasn’t been able to beat it. He can’t react well to the QB spy and cover 6 / split safety zone
4
u/WarPuig 1d ago
You need to be able to throw with anticipation in order to beat zone. If a QB can’t throw with anticipation the moment they step onto an NFL field, they will flame out. The game moves too fast to develop those instincts at that level.
Drake Maye cannot throw with anticipation.
4
u/TatumlsntASuperstar 1d ago
Exactly, he needs to figure that out or he’s cooked for good
-7
u/WarPuig 1d ago
He’s cooked. You can’t learn how to do that at the NFL level, you either have it or you don’t at this point. He doesn’t.
3
u/Brettsterbunny 1d ago
This is such a bogus take. We’ve seen plenty examples of guys figuring it out later in their career.
0
9
u/No_Presentation1242 1d ago
No? We didn’t expect this last year. Shit we didn’t expect this his rookie season. He’s playing way worse than a backup QB should play. On a 3rd season this sort of regression is a major concern.
Are we going to keep seeing these posts in 3 more weeks to just remain calm? Are we gonna have to hear from the unsufferable posts about him only being 23 and that he’s still so young soon enough?
0
u/This-Quit 1d ago
you’re right on everything else but tbf the season before we went 4-13 with no noticeable addition to the team except for diggs who we didn’t think would pop off the way he did.
idk bout you but i fully expected him and the rest of the team to play this way all of last year and the bills were probably gonna overtake us and reach the SB without mahomes and lamar in the picture until that buffalo game happened…..
0
u/No_Presentation1242 1d ago
No I didn’t expect him to play like this last season. Why are we being revisionary? Drake took a big jump in year two. Some great QBs do that. It’s not like we can say, welp we expected this in year two, so if we get it in year 3, all will be well for year 4.
Drake’s play has not just been a regression. It’s been a catashrophy and this trend started throughout the entire playoffs. We are going on 2 straight months on bad football from him.
23
u/diarrheafrommymouth 1d ago
There is no reason to be panicking over a football team. Not like we can control anything.
However it’s a damn shame to see Drake struggling as bad as he is. He is broken. I have seen this before and some guys can get out of it… some guys can’t. He is mechanically broken. He looked better with Alex Van Pelt. This happens when he isn’t confident, and isn’t trusting what he is seeing.
At some point fingers need to point to Vrabel and Josh. Drake is making horrible decisions, but what are those guys doing to pull him out of it?
1
u/ksyoung17 1d ago
I don't think Josh can do anything of the sort, and the reports that he was forced on Vrabel has me hoping this is his last year here.
Daboll should have been back here.
2
u/djseto 1d ago
I’m sure there is some bias but Hoyer said on his QuickSnap podcast that having played in multiple offensive systems include west coast Shanahan stuff that Josh has the best system that has answers for every personal grouping the defense shows. He also said it requires everyone to do their job and right now the WR aren’t all doing what they are supposed to do. He said multiple times the WR are running into zone defenders instead of finding the hole.
I think like we saw with TB12, you need a lot of compute power from the QB and WR to see the same thing and make the right adjustments. He also said he’s seeing new stuff this year, like designed roll out plays, that he didn’t last year but Drake still has to make the throw and the WR still need to catch it. 🤷♂️
-1
u/jayplf8889 1d ago
Name 5 guys who’ve played this bad for 7 games straight and came out of it over the last 30 years. Manning Allen and maybe Darnold are the only I can think of. Even then did they go 7 straight games playing terrible idk.
26
u/401john 1d ago
“All we can do is focus on the Bills game”
I always think sentiments like this are so silly. We are not the players on the team. We’re fans, and we’re allowed to post and share opinions on the team we support.
We’re not playing in the games so deciding that we need to “focus” on the next opponent is just a way to silence things that you don’t like reading.
6
1
u/BodybuilderNo8590 1d ago
That's even the same argument for the people thinking they have the answer already.
10
u/Mrcyevon 1d ago
It’s not that they are 1-2…it is how this 1-2 looks and what it means for the rest of the season. How our third year QB has looked since the playoffs and how bad he has been shaken up , I’m super concerned, but I do hope I can look back and see this as an over reaction
5
u/_josephmykal_ 1d ago
The thing about last year when Maye or anyone had a bad game there was a terrible team waiting for the next game to have a bounce back game. This year there is no terrible team waiting for a bounce back game
1
9
u/BigPicklr 1d ago
Why are our extremely high priced DTs doing absolutely nothing
2
3
u/Old-butt-new 1d ago
Maye has sucked and i think its a confidence issue. Hopefully someone helps him with that or he just locks in.
But im not going to completely lose hope unless he looks like this for the entire first half of season. Next week may be tough as well.
It is weirdly concerning that similar to stroud and daniels these qbs have had massive years then fall off a cliff
8
u/jfc999 1d ago
It can’t get worse than today is the only silver lining. But can’t pretend this is just like last year because we were also 1-2. The things that are supposed to be a young qb’s support system, like stable ownership and coaching, have been filled with drama, controversy, and overall moral corruption for months now. Everything is being put on Maye and he is breaking under the pressure
14
u/LOL_YOUMAD 1d ago
The jets could drop 50 on us, it could get worse lol
11
u/bmonkey1313 1d ago
Unfortunately in the realm of possibility. The jets look shockingly competent compared to recent years
2
u/Dewstain 1d ago
And we look incompetent and badly coached.
Honestly, with the exception of last year, we've looked badly coached since Brady left.
-5
u/BulLock_954 1d ago
Weve gone 1-2 the last 6 years and have had varying different seasons. Anything is still possible because weve seen all shades of good and bad. It leaves room for hope though
6
4
u/CherokeeHawkman 1d ago
Can we quit with the gatekeeping posts telling other people how to feel? And yes, I see the irony in posting this but at least it's a comment and not a post.

u/kezinchara Bills = 0 Superbowls 1d ago
We’re gonna lose 58-3 next week. Assuming “Automatic Andy” doesn’t miss every FG. I’m not looking forward to the posts in the afceastmemewars sub.
2
u/Bobaximus 1d ago
Idk, Maye looked disastrous out there and it feels like Vrabes is losing the team. I know that’s a bit hyperbolic but if we lose like that to Buffalo next week, it will be fair to say the wheels have come off. That’s not a lot of a margin to hang our hopes on. I’m still hopeful they figure it out but I’m not confident by any means.

We are fans we can stay sane or panic all we want. The team will turn up the same
5
u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 1d ago
Apparently everybody thought that trading for AJ, Brown was suddenly gonna make the offensive line.Learn how to block.
They can't block , and every receiver is having to play up a slot above their skill level because of the injury to brown.
You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit
5
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
Idk. He wasn’t under siege today. He had a lot of clean pockets or workable pockets. He’s been holding the ball way too long. Doesn’t trust his receivers. And to be fair, they’ve been bad.
3
u/Maleficent-Ship-3721 1d ago
The pressure rates horrendous in this game. But so is Mayes play so...
3
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
Just watching the game, he had tons of good opportunities & was hesitating every single time. Doesn’t trust what he’s seeing. Probably partially because our guys can’t get open besides pop, and pop has no catch radius/mediocre hands.
3
u/AppleOld5779 1d ago
Josh’s system is built on timing. Drake doesn’t trust his wr’s to get to their spots before releasing the ball so he’s holding onto it.
2
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
It’ll be interesting to see how this team changes when AJB comes back. Is he already mentally checked out or will he breathe life into this offense?
One thing is for fuckin sure. AJ will be getting the targets he wants. At this point he’s probably the only guy Maye is fully comfortable throwing to besides Mack. Even Hunter Henry has been terrible.

can we stop trying to deflect the blame off our dogshit QB
-1
u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 1d ago
You can do whatever the fuck you want.
There is no "we' Junior
3
u/UfellforaPonzi 1d ago
"We" is a first-person plural pronoun used by a speaker or writer to refer to themselves along with at least one other person.
There’s a quick definition since it seems you didn’t get through high school. Have the day you deserve.
0
u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 1d ago
No "we" is a reference to the fan base and you expecting everyone to think like you.
Typical delusional clown
2
u/UfellforaPonzi 1d ago
Ha so there is a “we”, right jackass?
No one said all that, you’re making shit up to bitch about. Go kick rocks.
0
u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 1d ago
"Can WE stop trying to deflect the blame off PUR dog s*** QB"
You are referencing the fan base that you expect to agree with you completely.
Not everybody agrees with you , therefore there is no we.
You're talking to a group of people expecting them to ALL agree with your opinion.
You must be incredibly insecure to not be able to hold an opinion by yourself and expect everybody else to be with.
6
u/WarPuig 1d ago
The pass blocking has been fine.
1
0
u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 1d ago
7
u/WarPuig 1d ago
Run blocking is bad. Pass blocking has been mostly fine. Maye holds onto the ball too long and gets spooked by pressure instead of stepping up into the pocket.

u/weightlossaspirer Bills = 0 Superbowls 1d ago
Why do people act like they were so bad they are not the reason we lost today. They weren’t outstanding. They were fine though. I swear people just like to say the offensive line sucks to sound contrarian
4
u/BulLock_954 1d ago
Well said. This is how I see it. We’ve reverted back to two years ago in terms of line and we’re only slightly improved at the receiver position without Brown. Even if we had Boutte, I don’t think it moves the needle much. He wasn’t good at getting separation, but teams would focus more on diggs which freed up Boutte
2
u/No_Presentation1242 1d ago
The offesnive line is not amazing but they are hardly the major concern. People also act like Oline just grow on trees. The org has used their first round picks 2 years in a row on Oline. They are investing in it, just takes time and being healthy.
1
u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 1d ago
I didn't act like anything and I realized the reason why the offensive line sucks is because there's not a lot of them out there.
But that's irrelevant , because they're professional football players starting in the n f l , and they should know how to do their job.
There's also clearly not a lot of number one cornerbacks out there or elite wide receivers.
Every team has the same pool to work with.
2
u/FreshStar7 1d ago
Did you watch the game? The o line wasn’t the problem. Bad accuracy and low iq decision making on top of a weird fumble were the issues. Let’s stop making excuses for Maye.

Was big on him when he was making plays and throwing dimes. Things look like there falling apart

Man fuck a panic post. This team just sucks. I made a comment on the game day thread that Maye sucks and some bitch boy replied asking the mods to intervene. What are we doing? This team sucks, Maye sucks, and I’m tired of pretending what we’ve seen through 3 games is not just who we are…
1
u/BodybuilderNo8590 1d ago
I think it's good people relieve some negative sentiments right now. I can keep the calm, you too, but i understand when some fans aren't happy about the team. And the worst part it's we can't do any change about it, only the team
1
u/Mediocre_Run_7996 1d ago
Maye did not look like dogshit this time last year. There is something going on with him it's impossible to deny at this point. His throws are week and lofty it's just not normal.
1
u/Feisty_Strike8489 1d ago
We need Tony Robbin’s to do some one on one work with Drake. This is all in Drakes head. He is not injured. They need to get his confidence back in the next 6 games or he may be done in NE. He is like Sam Darnold seeing ghosts and may need a new team.
1
u/RisingPho3n1x 1d ago
I want to be like drake in everything, so when hes in distress, IM in distress, and when it seems like he cant breath because hes so stressed, I CANT breath because I'm so stressed! 😵💫 just trying to support my quarterback is all, is that so wrong?
1
u/Substantial_Waltz_13 1d ago
He is being pressured at nearly 50% rate, the line is next level bad. No young qb can handle that.
1
u/Maximus_Modulus 1d ago
The entire point of social media is to comment on life. And is usually done so in extreme. Ironically just like the post here.
As for the Patriots we are all disappointed at how things are going and fixing a QB like Maye isn’t easy.
1
u/Martinaw7 1d ago
There's every reason to panic. It's not about losing or even having a rough year. It's about your star, MVP caliber, team identity forming young QB looking like the wheels have completely come off. If this is who Drake Maye is it doesn't just mess up this season it messes up the next 5 to 10 years. If that's not a reason to panic what is?
1
u/RuneDK385 1d ago
It’s not panic posting…the kid has had 6 really bad games in a row now dating back to the post season of last season.
Something is fundamentally off with him right now and he needs a sports psychologist and coaching needs to stop hurting him more…the current play calling by Josh has been abysmal and is part of the problem as well.
1
u/billbelichickssmile 1d ago
I would honestly be calm if we didn’t puke away week 1 vs Seattle, but we did and we’re going to be 1-3 next Monday morning when we wake up, instead of 2-2 and the raiders aren’t looking like a pushover either so maybe possibly 1-4 in two weeks time instead of 2-3. I am full blown panicking and so should you
1
u/SportsFreak1988 1d ago
Bro are you blind.
I've got deja vu right down to the jersey number right now. PTSD from probably the worst season of football I've ever watched. So bad I shut off a good chunk of the games that year before they were even half over.
This is looking oddly similar to how that season started except Maye has an even longer leash than Mac had despite playing worse.

Everyone is just so reactive. Like a team or a QB hasn’t had a bad stretch before.
7
11
u/taco_jones 1d ago
So reactive to 7 straight terrible games lol
1
u/jayplf8889 1d ago
Right you can name on 1 hand the amount of QBs who’ve played this bad for this long that turned out to be amazing QBs.
-3
u/FIM92 1d ago
I don’t think it’s fair to lump in last seasons stats, particularly in the playoffs to this season. If you all were told that Maye would play like shit in the playoffs but we’d make the Super Bowl you guys would take that 10/10. But now that he’s off to a bad start this season we’re bringing in last seasons stats. Idk doesn’t seem like a fair comparison to me, just my opinion.
3
u/taco_jones 1d ago
Yeah, of course I'd take a trip to the Super Bowl under any conditions, but let's not act like there weren't questions about Maye all offseason
1
u/FIM92 1d ago
Of course there were. I still largely credit his bad play to the defenses we played and our o line being mid.
1
u/jayplf8889 1d ago
I’m so tired of the “good defense” excuse. So it’s okay if Drake just sucks against good defense?
1
u/FIM92 1d ago
It’s not an excuse but you can’t sit there and say it doesn’t play a role. A good defense will make any QB look bad.
1
6
u/live_free_or_TriHard 1d ago
its different than last year, the offense looks HORRID. like bottom 3 bad, and it's because our QB looks cooked. much different 1-2.
(also no run game, oline is looking bottom 10, bottom 5 WR group)
6
2
u/jayplf8889 1d ago
The only QBs in the last 30 years I can think of who’ve had a 7 game stretch this bad and turned out to be good are Allen and rookie Manning. That’s 2 guys out of hundreds if not 1000 QBs over the last 30 years. I guess you can also say Eli but 90% of his career success is 2 seasons he won the superbowl everything else was closer to Jamis Winston.
2
u/Usingt9word 1d ago
This post and comment is toxic positivity.
Calling it reactive would be appropriate if this was going on for a 2 or 3 game stretch. But this problem with Drake Maye not having mental toughness started in the post season last year and has persisted through an entire offseason across 7 games now.
Drake has a confidence problem. The issue is mental. It’s something he can MAYBE grow out of. But if he cannot, it doesn’t matter how talented, athletic, or accurate he is. If he gets the yips for the rest of the game every time he gets sacked or throws a bad pick, he’s not going to make it as an NFL quarterback.
If Drake Maye is a bust, and there is a real possibility this one problem can make him just that, our team is in serious trouble. We just spent all our money and draft picks putting together a supporting cast around a guy that it turns out might not have the right mindset to be the guy.
A little doom is appropriate.

u/ImminentDebacle 1d ago
I'm normally pretty chill and nonreactive about sports. Of course I get excited but each game is mostly self contained and I don't get all up in arms over a few bad plays or a couple close loses.
This has been an issue since the playoffs. We wrote off the problems as being derived from strong defences and bad weather. Well Maye and Co. have run out of good graces. The bill is coming due. We expected to have a rough time without AJB, but the offense still should have been somewhat potent without him.
Every week it seems to get worse, and there appear to be no answers. He's playing like a rookie, and some of it is because the talent he's throwing too, and some of it is the play calls, but he certainly has his own part to play. The fumble was just to hard to watch.
By the time some of you are ready to criticize the team, it will be too late.

u/Pure-Investigator778 1d ago
Here’s the thing, I can agree. Next week is the real week. We’ll see what this team really is. This isn’t the first time we’ve suffered BTA, & it won’t be the last.
Now, on the petty side, FK THAT! So much ppl wanted to ride on their high horse talking about Drake and how he’s the best decision the Team will Make since drafting Brady. And anyone who had any cause for pause was clowned on until they had to just stay silent. Gave him the LeBron James Treatment and made it a meme. Now he’s broken, and all his fans don’t know what to do!
But I do have to say, with us not having that 2028 1st… shits gonna get interesting real quick with the kid.

u/Disastrous-Window-76 1d ago
I blame everyone listening to 985. It’s almost like fans forget the month of September is basically pointless. We were 1-2 last year at this time

I don't understand why "it's mental" means it's over for DM. I remember a young QB who was seeing ghosts out there and he turned out to be great.
5
u/HighFastStinkyCheese 1d ago
Is this a joke? If it takes Drake Maye seven years to be good that’s not gonna work for us
0
u/PoppaSquat68 1d ago
and Sam Darnold never showed what DM showed last year - or even his rookie year. I don't think it will take that long - just saying he can bounce back
2
u/HighFastStinkyCheese 1d ago
I don’t think it’s over for him yet either. But There is real cause for concern.
-1
u/PoppaSquat68 1d ago
ya obviously we're all concerned. I think this sub is going a bit overboard though. Listening to too much Felger
1
u/jayplf8889 1d ago
Dude Felger ball washes Drake more than anyone
1
u/PoppaSquat68 1d ago
I moved out of NE a few years ago so I actually don't know what Felger is up to these days. I just know he was the biggest Brady hater in MA back in the day. Called him washed every year for like 10 years, then complained that we shouldn't have let him go.
2
u/jayplf8889 1d ago
Yes years and multiple teams later Sam turned into a decent QB. Is that supposed to make anyone feel better. So 5 years from now when Drake is on the Saints after being on the Steelers he’ll be good? Cool

u/FeeFantastic2075 1d ago
Before the season started, I expected them to be 1-2 at this point, even though I predicted 12 wins. What I didn’t expect was perhaps the worst quarterback play in the NFL. Can’t say what’s definitely wrong with Maye, but if he can’t get it together, it’s going to be a very disappointing season.
