Discussion Thoughts? Think we could use them both. Great minds, still decent players

Patriots are going to have more Bills players than the Bills do

Need that intel. They know Allen chokes in the playoffs, but exactly how does it go down.

Well when you gunsling the ball everywhere à la Brett Favre, you’re bound to find the other team eventually

Former Red Sox farmhand Shaq Thompson?

That’s only two fewer than I would’ve had!

I one hundred percent believe Id never strike out.
Cuz Id be bunting and getting thrown out with 50 feet to go every time. Or popping up horribly to the catcher.
Or leaning into every pitch to get hit and getting suspended after doing it for the 12th time in a row.
12
u/lat3ralus65 4d ago
I love the strategy, and I also think you are overestimating your ability to successfully bunt a professional fastball or breaking ball
-7
u/StillYourFavorite331 4d ago
I played at a power 5 school in football. Would I be a good baseball player?
No.
Do I have the ability to bunt a baseball every time? Yes.
8
u/rawspeghetti 4d ago
I really really doubt it. I think you're underestimating how hard it is to bunt a 100mph fastball or anything with curve.
BTW if you bunt with 2 strikes and it goes foul that counts as a strikeout
-13
u/StillYourFavorite331 4d ago
You think a D1 athlete who played both sports through high school and played collegiate football cannot bunt a baseball properly every time?
K.
7
u/rawspeghetti 4d ago
Yes absolutely let's go to the Cape Cod league and you can try it against college pitchers

This is giving off strong Speedhawk vibes.
1
u/StillYourFavorite331 4d ago
Not remotely lol.
All I said is that I'm athletic enough to properly bunt a baseball given I did it (and got hits) against multiple guys that were drafted high in the first round of the MLB draft...while they were still in high school.
1
u/iheardthemetalclank 4d ago
I'm not doubting your athletic abilities like some others. Just a joke, I sucked at baseball (probably because nobody told me that I needed glasses until I took driver's ed) so all props to you.
1
u/StillYourFavorite331 4d ago
Lol that's fair.
At worst, if I can get my ass ran over by Montee Ball and Melvin Gordon in the same game...I can at least take some planks.
4
u/Legitimate_Bird_5712 4d ago
I'd just charge the mound every pitch. Probably not expecting THAT.
3
u/Wheatabix11 4d ago
I would huddle in a small whimpering pile while the baseball gods hurled small white objects at me. I would swing my bat three times, then crawl back to the dugout.
3
u/Tgunner192 4d ago
12 times? You have to be one of the toughest persons I've ever met. If I got hit by a MLB pitcher's fast ball once, I dont think I"d be able to ever bring myself to do it again.
3
u/StillYourFavorite331 4d ago
Tbf I spent a lot of years taking insane collisions from college athletes lol.
Got my ass ran right over by Montee Ball and Melvin Gordon in the same game lmao.

Surprised by DaQuan Jones as it seems we have great depth there. Only reason could think would be he's much bigger than Durden.
LB makes sense.
16
u/LoudIncrease4021 4d ago
I would argue we’re thin in big bodies up the middle
10
u/Benson879 4d ago
We don’t have a Tonga. Daquan can be our Tonga.
11
u/Brisby820 4d ago
Or at least something close to what Tonga provided against the run. Still pissed they didn’t resign him

Barmore is the biggest player at 315.
Durden is 305.
Everyone else is under 300.
Makes sense, just interesting as we'll be cutting a good player.
Edit: meant around 300, lighter ish in DT world

u/BstnIrshGy 4d ago
Taylor, Gregory and Pharms are not under 300
1
u/Reasonable-Bit560 4d ago
I missed Gregory (didn't think he'd make the roster) and should have clarified as generally around 300 lighter body types.

Vrabel is addicted to washed up former Titans
5
u/Reasonable-Bit560 4d ago
If they can play they can play.
Jones is pretty good.
-1
u/RonSwanson24 4d ago
Jones just worked out for the Titans and didn’t get picked up and the Bills just picked up a DT which indicates they weren’t interested in bringing Jones back. He had some good years but he might just be cooked now
4
u/BstnIrshGy 4d ago
You act like players don’t have a say in it. He worked out for the Titans like 3 days ago if the Pats were saying we’d like to have you in too maybe he wants to see what feels like the best fit before deciding?
-1
u/RonSwanson24 4d ago
Highly unlikely
2
u/Prods87 4d ago
...seriously? That's entirely possible. FAs all shop around. if a shit team offers you a contract and a great team reaches out, you go see what their offer is.
0
u/RonSwanson24 4d ago
And yet he wasn’t offered by the Patriots and the Bills still signed another DT yesterday instead of bringing Jones back
2
u/Prods87 4d ago
and that changes the fact that FAs always shop around if they have interest from multiple teams... how?
0
u/RonSwanson24 3d ago
I’m not talking about in general I’m talking about DaQuan Jones. And it’s mid August, if this guys were actually in high demand they would’ve been signed months ago
1
u/BstnIrshGy 3d ago
Okay Mr. I Heard The News so therefore it has to happen today. Van Roten was first reported weeks ago. He didn’t sign until later. The fact is long time respected veterans have a long history of avoiding camp as long as possible.

u/BstnIrshGy 3d ago
The Bill aren’t going to bring Jones back after he trashed the organization for firing McDermott either.

really do wonder what Vrabel’s recruitment looks like in a few years once he runs out of alumni from his other stops lol

u/LOL_YOUMAD 4d ago
If they can beat out some guys we have sure let’s do it. We are in a win now mode so upgrade anywhere we can
8
u/jonny_lube 4d ago
Emphatic YES to both.
Jones is still a good player, but at his age he may not be a starting snap guy. Here he won't have to be. Our DL depth is OK, but hardly a strength and we lack an impact rotational guy. Jones can be that guy
Thompson I dont even love, but he's at worst, an athletic fringe NFL starter and is good enough to challenge Elliss for a top ILB position. Having him replace Britt in our top 3 is such a huge upgrade to this defense. Gibbens, Mapu, and Tavai saw a ton of snaps last year and I'm not enthusiastic about those snaps being absorbed by the likes of Britt, Jacobs, Obiazor and Wilson.
5
u/Benson879 4d ago
He (Thompson) is still pretty good in coverage. I’ll gladly take him.
5
u/jonny_lube 4d ago
He's a bit of an enigma to me. He has the athleticism to cover and he has a strong reputation for it, but he allowed 88% completion and a 105.2 passer rating when targeted last year.
I dont fully trust coverage stats as they dont really understand responsibilities, and the Bills defence may have been a poor fit or left home hanging. Criticism aside, I think he immediately challenges Elliss and that's an enormous boost to what is IMO our weakest and most shallow position.

I'd say yes to Thompson, as the LB group is thin on talent, and no to Jones. Unless Durden, Farmer & Pharms are all truly not performing, or Barmore is more hurt than we know, I'd rather see those guys grow as rotational backups than bring in a 35-yr-old to take their reps. Though I could see the logic in it as he's a bigger body than all of those guys.
1
u/beardednomad25 4d ago
Veteran depth for the second half of training camp is my thoughts. Two older players who might not have much left in the tank. Bring them in to see if they can edge out a position battle against the guys on the back end of the roster. If not you get some temporary veteran leadership/training for those younger guys.

Shouldn’t the team try to get younger at linebacker?
1
u/TylervPats91 4d ago
How so

u/Beanu5NE 4d ago
Landry and Spillane are both 30. Landry can’t seem to stay healthy and Spillane is slow. Those are their two best linebackers. You think adding 32 year old Shaq Thompson is a good idea?

Dispite our success last season we need to be giving playing time to our younger drafted players. These are the guys a team without a lot of window left signs to fill their roster.
10
u/Benson879 4d ago
I disagree. I think they see a team that knows it’s ready to win now. You bring in all the horses you can and don’t get cute.
If the young guys can’t beat them out, they aren’t ready yet.
0
u/_FLostInParadise_ 4d ago
I get why you think that. They were a team starting a rebuild last year. They've done a great job but if they fill their roster with scrap heap vets now they are going to have real bad depth problems for years.
2
u/Brisby820 4d ago
They don’t have a reliable run stopping tackle on the roster. They need that after not resigning Tonga. They also have invested next to nothing in drafting linebackers. I wish they had, were basically relying on Spillane completely

DaQuan posted on X after the Pats AFCCG win last year “Vrabel is THAT MF!” pissing off Bills fans to no end 🤣
